1.
absolutely! DI into the PA and let the FOH take the beating!! im not destroying my gear!! and lugging my cab around is not fun...unless of course i am feeling particularly HENCH that day hahaha
Haha To be honest there are only 2 reasons why I use an amp: 1) Because I get to control how loud I am. 2) Having a big box with speakers in it behind you looks pretty cool
2. Done and done! I may even use it on the 16th too if nobody nabs it off of me that night!
3. This always happens. The best way to do it is to get the drummer to play as he normally would, and base your levels around that. Luckily I've only been in one band where the guitarist insisted on drowning everything else out... and he always told me to bloody turn down I left that band...
4. I'm picking the baton up from Steve today, and so it will be making its next appearance on the 13th of April, at The Green Star, Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent! Event page below https://www.facebook.com/events/277677872335281/
5. Looks like the baton will be in my greasy mitts today!
6.
Local shops can bog off, they've never done anything for me. They even, through the mince amp they let me use managed to put me off a bass which I now own and think is great. Screw you, shops.
That truly sucks dude Luckily the majority of shops I've been to recently have all been great! Two that stick out the most are Academy Of Sound in Stoke, and PMT in Manchester. Staff in both of these stores went out of their way to make sure I got to try out what I wanted to, with no pushy sales techniques.
7. I don't know if this has ever been posted before, but I stumbled across in on YouTube today and I loved it so much I had to post it. Seriously, it's so brilliant you must see it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P8C6-XqaNs
8. stringbusters do single strings Also, have you tried coated Elixirs? They keep their tone for a really long time so even if you buy a full set for £30 odd you'll end up saving in the long run!
9.
As it turns out, I'm not going away this coming weekend. So, when's a good time for us to meet up for a handover? Just about any time is OK with me, apart from Sunday when I'll be sailing.
I'm not sure what time I'm about on Saturday yet, but are you free Friday afternoon?
10. Never sell a Peavey man. They're so much better than what the used prices suggest!
11. Bugger Well I'm gigging on the 13th so if nobody else has anything sooner I'll have it next!
12. I just use heavier gauge strings for tuning down, it's all good! GENERALLY I go up by .005 for every semitone, so in standard tuning the bottom string would be .100 and for D tuning a .110. But a lot of it depends on personal preference and what bass you use
13. Excellent Enjoy playing it like never before!
14.
Learn to press the strings with lighter technique. You will probably find you working harder than you need to and slowing yourself down as a result.
This is top advice. I gave a lesson yesterday and discovered that this was exactly the problem the guy was having. The fact that his bass needed a setup quite badly wasn't helping matters either. You will be using so much more effort to play if your action is high!
15. It will cost you more in the long run as you'll be likely to want a 2nd bass again in future. I know this from experience, which is why I now own 5
16.
To my ears the B3 colours the sound in an unpleasant way when bypassed, so I lost interest in this.
Luckily I didn't have this problem, it actually sounded better bypassed than when I used to have the 4 EHX pedals that it replaced!
17. I hope you get good money for it dude, those 80's Ibanez basses are f***ing incredible machines.
18.
Stringbusters
+1! I'm all for supporting local businesses, but if they can't help you out there's a massive variety on there and usually cheaper than the high street!
19. I've never used a Promethean, but I know that the Markbass 2x10 combo will be more convenient than a seperate head and cab. It's more than enough for most 'normal' venues, sounds incredible, and I think you can tilt it back into monitor position too!
20. I forgot to comment on the track in the OP Excellent guitar and bass sound! Clearer and more high quality mix than a lot of major label releases!
21.
Sounds excellent! I saw a Kemper in Andertons. I'm perfectly happy with my POD X3 LIVE though. Modelling has come a long way, no doubt you'll get someone saying it's not like a cranked valve amp or some sh*t like that, usually someone who makes valve amps
The anti-modelling brigade are a funny sort. Another case of hearing with your eyes rather than your ears! I have had comments and questions about my tone from many golden eared purists, and I've never owned anything with valves in it in my life
22. Pedal wise, I prefer a compressor first in the chain. Seeing as yours is rack mount, with a noise gate, I would personally use it in the FX loop so it will still tame any noise from your pedals.
23.
As for order, one man's peas are another's snotters. Play about & see what makes the sounds You like.
Definitely this. I was advised to use my Sansamp last in the chain, but after chopping and changing I MUCH prefer the sound of it 2nd, after my compressor, and before any other drives. That way the Sansamp is more like a pre, I add some gnarly distortion with a 2nd pedal, then smooth it all over with the third, mild overdrive.
24. I use them pretty much exclusively, unless they're out of stock or I'm in a rush and need to run to a local shop. Always been more than happy with them. I've thankfully never had any trouble with any strings I've bought from Stringbusters but it's reassuring to know that they'll rush to my aid if I ever do!
25. Haha great story! Most of my gear is 'budget' stuff, not because it's cheap but because it's awesome!
