1.
There's no guarantee about the future but we can be certain that it's been possible to make excellent music with a four string bass.
Sometimes with no accompaniment! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz8qHxsKu6A
 2.
I like the song but I would much rather have had Ronnie James singing it, Ozzy bless him still has something left, but i'm not sure what it is lol.
Woah, I just imagined how it would have sounded with Dio's voice....
 3.
5 and 6 strings make sight reading a lot easier. Less position shifts. Great for the lazy or as I call it 'economical' bass players
I always tell people how much easier it is with more strings
 4.
Blocked on copyright grounds!
LAME! I'll find another link and edit the OP
 5.
I play 4's, quite fancy trying a 5 - will it make me a better player?
It might make playing easier for you, creating the illusion of a better player
 6. I take my head with me everywhere my bass goes, so if there is a cabinet supplied I'll plug into that. If they only have a combo, I will just set the EQ flat and run my pedals into it and tweak as necessary. Annoyingly, the new rehearsal space has a Marshall rig that totally doesn't interact with my gear very well!
 7.
Ahh ok.Thanks for the replies. Not something a beginner should worry themselves about then.I haven`t really noticed them until a few months ago.But when you take up a new hobby, you tend to notice things more.Like i always listen to the bassline closer than i used to when listening to music
I jumped straight from 4 to 6 strings after 2 years of playing, so don't rule it out if it interests you I did accidentally play the wrong string a lot while I was still getting to grips with it though To this day, I probably play a 4 and a 6 string about the same amount of time each, so you don't have to abandon one for the other. Oh, and yeah bass playing has totally changed the way I listen to music too! I feel the groove and nod in different places than, say, a guitarist would!
 8. I agree with the suggestion of making something new yourselves. If it's totally unique it will be instantly recognisable as YOUR band being about to play. I've heard bands use pre-recorded speeches, snippets from movies, classical music, drones, feedback, weird atmospheric sounds, air raid sirens, gunfire, explosions, screams, or a combination!
 9. A lot of modern music is best suited to very low bass notes, down to B or sometimes lower. A 5 string makes this possible without losing the upper range. Personally I don't do a hell of a lot of tapping so I don't necessarily 'need' a 6 string, but it helps me to be able to play a wider range of notes without my left hand whizzing up and down the fretboard so I always feel more comfortable using one.
 10. If I could have any gig bag it would be the iGig. Padding is insane, amount of pockets is crazy too, if you have any head around the size of a Markbass LM series or smaller you will be able to fit that, and all your leads and tools in it.
 11. Now that the pictures are up, I can see that the construction and the quality of the wood are much higher than my slightly older Grind. Especially the fretboard! I paid over £100 more than this for mine too!
 12.
I'm not sure when I'll be free, maybe around 2pm but I'm not sure tomorrow night's gig is the right one (playing at a club). I'd rather do it at one of our regular pub gigs, the next one is May 3rd so a couple of weeks away. Maybe leave it for now?
I don't mind man, I can get it to you tomorrow, but if you want to leave it for now I don't mind holding onto it. If so, it's up for grabs for anyone who might want to use it in the meantime dudes
 13.
I could meet you at the Derby & Burton Services near Toyota depending on when you are going. Failing that I'm sure there a plenty of members in Nottingham.
I'll find out today, will you be available most of the day tomorrow? Or shall I aim for a specific time window? Also, if you wanna use the bass that night, I'll give it a quick setup for you cause I've got it in Eb at the moment.
 14.
. . . it wouldn't be Sabbath though would it?
So true I loved Dio's vocals and he's one of my favourite singers of all time, but as far as Sabbath goes Ozzy has always been their voice.
 15.
Which way would you be going to Nottingham? I might be able to meet up on the way? I have a gig tonight in Barton under Needwood and Saturday night in Tamworth.
I go east on the A50 from Stoke mate
 16. I've always preferred passive. I set up my amp for the room, and use pedals to quickly switch between sounds. The only other adjustments I might want to make can be done by slightly rolling off the tone knob on the bass. I don't need anything more complex than that... Also, I never have to worry about batteries. Something I always used to forget about!
 17. Hmm... very nice bass sound Edited for better quality version, thanks to dannybuoy!
 18.
I'm in South Derbyshire, anyone in between who could pass it on?
I'm going to be in Nottingham this weekend, is that any good to you?
 19.
Cool, could you find out what the band was? would love to check out some other audio/video clips of these basses in action.
They were called Viable Truth. I just had a look for some live videos but couldn't find any. There's a track here, but in typical metal mix fashion, you can't hear the bass! It's annoying as they always sounded great live! http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=HYtNcmXUieM
 20.
Wielding a Peavey Zodiac - a man of great taste!
Best £150 I ever spend on eBay! It was like new, and the neck had already been shimmed
 21. One of my favourite live photos, from a gig the other week. I usually get caught pulling some pretty horrendous faces so this was a nice surprise
 22. I've never seen Elites sold individually anywhere online. If you know a local music shop that stocks them you might be able to get one though. Failing that, you could just buy a new set, replace all of them and have 3 spares!
 23.
Most cover bands I've been in seem to construct their setlists based on what the bandmembers like to play. Then they chuck in extra guitar solos and spend most of the evening staring at each other or their feet.
This is true in some cases yeah! Luckily 3 of the members of Generations are really young guys into modern, mainstream metal, the vocalist is older and into classic, mainstream metal, and I occasionally get away with chucking something in the setlist that has cool bass bits in
 24.
This is ridiculous advice. Poo on his carpet.
I went from to in about 0.3 seconds
 25. As above. Name and shame. Nobody needs this, and I'd hate for it to happen to somebody else. As for the amp, pay him a personal visit, take a friend or two with you and tell him he's going to hand it over immediately. If he refuses, you walk into his house and take it. If you can't find it, take his TV, his computer, any jewellery or valuables, and leave a big poo in his toilet
