1.
Thanks for pointing that out Chris. Shows what I know!
I bought mine without realising it was the same thing too! They unfortunately don't sell them anymore, probably because they got into a bit of trouble
2. The only basses I've ever played that sounded better than my Peaveys were a limited edition Ibanez Musician Bass, and a Rickenbacker 4003. The Ibanez had a stupidly long neck and weighed a ton, and the Ric, being a Ric, was really uncomfortable to play despite having the best neck and fretwork I've ever seen.
3. I've used an Ampeg 8x10, and while they're not very loud compared to modern, smaller, ported cabs... they sound fantastic! Much tighter and controlled low end too. Although with my front ported 4x10 I just turn down the lows on my head to get a more focused sound. It works out great, and I get more headroom as well!
4.
Well, in that case all my basses and also my practice amp deserve a mention! Most of the higher-end instruments being sold or traded on this site are individually more expensive than the whole of my bass-related possessions - yet I'm perfectly happy with what I'm getting out of my gear. That obviously does not reduce my GAS even by a tiny bit, but that's another story!
Ditto! I own 5 bass guitars, and together they cost me a total of less than £900
5. This is a Diago Powerstation without the badge. Incredible value noiseless power for peanuts! I've had one for like 3 years and it hasn't let me down once. It shall not be here long!
6.
I played the baton for the whole gig, personally I think this 'one song' business is a bit of a wimp-out.
Nice one! You're probably right I use three different tunings in my cover band, and I chose to put the baton in Eb so that I was only using it on two songs. I'm a bit fussy about low action so it was a bit of a copout
7. Welcome! I've never seen that firestorm finish before... Looks awesome
8. That action is crazily low. It's gotta have some incredibly high build quality to be able to get away with that! Great great value.
9.
I'm going to contact Jason at Rotosound again as at LBGS he said he'd love to get involved with the relay by supplying a selection of string sets, but I've still not heard back.
That's awesome, what a guy!
10. All of my Peavey basses cost between £50 and £339 and I've never played anything else that felt better!
11. Sounds like a wicked idea! Though on the pickup front I'd recommend a Quarter Pounder P pickup, and a Hot Stack Jazz pickup at the bridge. Nice and hot, and still hum cancelling!
12. Genuinely pleased with how this is going, it looks like the Relay is only just getting started in its quest for awesomeness
13. If all the pedals on my board were to break apart from one, I'd want that one to be the Zoom B3. I use the tuner on it all the time, and all the other effects that I use seperate ones for like compression, sansamp, drive, I can get very decent versions of with it.
14. Last time I checked, you could get singles from stringbusters.. Only the nickel ones though!
15.
you're cheating and using an extra finger
Haha I know, at least I'm not also cheating by using a couple of extra strings this time though!
16. Another vote for Elixir steels here. They sound like any other great bright roundwound stainless steels, but they keep their sound for months and months and months... You don't have to care for them as much either, I don't even wipe mine down with a cloth and it's had no negative effect on the sound after 6 months!
17.
at 8 ohms, I'd lose some of the power from the amp. Quite tempting though.
You actually don't lose that much, going from 500w @ 4 ohms to 300w @ 8 ohms. I think it's only like 2-3dB. I bought a Markbass 4x10 with plans to get a second at a later date, and I've never needed to go beyond half way on the volume on any gig. I don't use super hot output basses either!
18. Yeah, they've been building all the Darkglass pedals since production moved to the USA as far as I'm aware.
19.
Yeah I saw that cool bass he also had a sig peavey zodiac I think and that was about £300 if I am correct bet it wasn't like the one he played live tho.
Apparently it's exactly the same, but I can't confirm. They're incredible basses though! Definitely the best sounding one I own
20. My first gig was OK, until the singer randomly decided we were going to do a cover of Knocking On Heaven's Door, which myself and the drummer had never tried to play in our lives. We just about blagged it with the guitarist whispering the chords to me while I basically did some pentatonic noodling
21.
An Imperial Stormtrooper would never play a Fireglow 4003 . It just looks so wrong . It would have to be a Blackstar ( renamed by Rickenbacker as the Death Star for the Galactic Empire market ) :
That is one sexy Ric!!!
22. Looks like things might be coming together! I might bring it to Swadlincote myself that night if I can't arrange a handover with Gazm before that. Imagine that, 2 handovers in one night!
23.
All music recorded on a 4 string bass could just as easily have been played on a 5 string (or more) and a lot of it could have been recorded on 3 strings, so I'm not sure why that point keeps being raised. We should all be less judgemental and play the instrument that is appropriate and comfortable. Victor Wooten was asked why he always plays a 4 string bass on workshops. He said he owns and plays 5 6 and fretless when required, but plays the "cleaver stuff" on 4 strings because that's where he feels more comfortable.
Totally agree with this. And yeah! I've seen a video of Victor playing a 6 string, it was a real surprise! He didn't look hindered in any way, and it still sounded exactly like him. I wish I could find it!
24. This has never happened to me before, but at a gig once somebody asked me to sell them my t shirt
