You need to include free beer with the baton!
Good call! So who's close to Stoke and wants to get their mitts on the baton next?

What to do when things are seemingly impossible
chrismuzz replied to timmo's topic in General Discussion
Stick with it through the tough/frustrating times. The more you do it, the easier it gets. ...until you find the next thing! But seriously... I've done nearly 10 years of bass playing and I still can't remember which mode has what name sometimes! So don't feel bad -
There used to be a metal band based in Brum where the bassist used one of these, loads of tapping, huge chords and stuff like that. Sounded lovely through my Markbass amp!

How soon after first picking a bass up did you gig?
chrismuzz replied to bobpalt's topic in General Discussion
When I first picked up the bass, I spent 2 years of jamming in a guitarist friend's bedroom, writing grunge and playing along to Metallica. Then when we both went to college, we started an indie rock/funk type thing, and gigged a few weeks later! Not long after that, we took all the stuff we'd written before college, and started a female fronted prog rock/metal band. Kind of a weird transition now that I think about it! -
Round wound thuds when fingers hit non played strings
chrismuzz replied to Greggo's topic in Bass Guitars
This is one of those minor technique related things that you just kind of learn to stop doing the more you play. It sort of becomes second nature to do it, like with muting strings to stop them ringing out. I was watching a video I recorded of myself playing, and I was surprised by all the little things that I was doing to mute strings and such, it was totally automatic! -
I've just emptied the collection boxes, and counted £91.47! Not a bad result at all I'll pop down to the bank tomorrow, then send a payment to the justgiving page.
Yes, nice work Chris, hope you've enjoyed your time with the bass. This is a good idea RE the collection boxes. If you don't mind sitting down and counting them out that is. I wonder where it'll head to next...
Actually, I had a few comments on the sound of it. It may have sounded good in recording, but live it was a real beast! It didn't have the sustain of the other two I was playing that night but it was really punchy and aggressive I'll figure out how to get the boxes open and count em out later on. I'll leave a little in each one though so they're still nice and jingly for the next relayer It's here for the taking whenever anyone wants a piece of it!

FS: Peavey Grind NTB Neck thru 6 string "project". REDUCED TO £130
chrismuzz replied to Shockwave's topic in Basses For Sale
there is a small crack in the wood near the B string tuner but does not effect playability, sound or is not structurally unstable.
Curious... Mine has exactly the same thing! I've had it for about 4 years now and it has not caused me any grief whatsoever BTW to any prospective buyers: £200 is a brilliant price for one of these. I paid £280 for mine and that was without any upgrades. I'm assuming if you took out the preamp it would be exactly the same as a stock one? -

Great gig tonight! But both of the collection boxes are practically full to the brim now. Oops!

Help Please, Pickup Changes for First time
chrismuzz replied to vikingbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
I hear Bartolini pickups have a nice warm sound. Also,if you're tuning that low, you will want to have as heavy a string gauge as possible to get more tension on the strings, and more body in your sound. I used to use a .152 for low A and that was pure beef! -

I use a Markbass F1 with dirty pedals. You get a lot more clanky attack than with other heads which I absolutely love!
Hi, Doesn't look like there is away to alter the default settings on the tuner mute. I'd preferered the mute to come on straight away rather than having to wait 5 secs and go via bypass first. I understand it can be done via a footswitch, can it be done via am expression pedal too or not?
Nah unfortunately you can't assign the expression pedal to the tuner. Apparently people on TB have had mixed results connecting a Y cable to the Control Input and using an expression pedal and footswitch together. Not tried it myself though.
