1.
I also have to say that the steal strings seem to go through my fingers like through butter ... I know I know, I probably don't play enough ... not sure if it is the material, or what. But I do tend to avoid them these days!
I had the same problem with Rotosound, and Warwick steels. Less so with Elites Stadium Series or D'Addario Prosteels. Elixir stainless steels are amazing though, the coating makes them really smooth and a little slippery (not excessively though). Definitely the best feeling steels I've tried!
 2. Looks like somebody had a bit too much MDMA before hitting the stage that night
Just thought I'd make sure we've all seen this version...
That was excellent, literally had me squealing with laughter!!
 3.
Nowadays in a shop I plug a bass in and my mind goes blank, it's like I know no songs at all.
I get the same thing in soundcheck!
 4.
Sorry, original post possibly a little bit confrontational - What I should have said is I don't think anyone would notice if you played this as the bassline isn't particularly obvious.
Most people I hear playing it play the guitar riff but with single notes instead of chords.. I've never heard anyone but myself playing the actual bassline
 5. I love D'Addario strings personally. If it was bright and aggressive I'd recommend the ProSteels, but it sounds like Nickels would be just right for you. They're nice and ballsy! And the hexagonal core keeps the low B nice and tight too
 6. Interesting! I wonder if it was the real deal? If so the buyer got a bargain!!
 7. Smoke On The Water comes to mind!
 8. What's the best potato for bread?
 9.
Another awesome video chris! what camera do you use? looking at getting into the youtube video thing myself
Thankyou buddy I get the sound from my pedalboard + Zoom B3, and the video from a 12 megapixel pocket camera. The picture quality would actually be loads better, but I have to compress the hell out of it because my laptop is 12 years old and super slow
 10.
With thrash metal look for the high mids or high overtones that give m away. Detuners are often audible in growly subs. Kiss and Maiden type stuff is very midsy too... anything to get around those sloppy guitards realy
Definitely! As a primarily thrash metal bass player, I use the lows to blend into the mix and thicken it all up, then I cut through with the high mids and treble! That added with a clean/dirty mix makes it almost as if the bass is fulfilling two roles at once!
 11.
And this shows my ignorance here, but when I do listen to metal, I don't here the bass line at all. Where as with any other music I can always pick it out.
That's actually very common in heavy metal mixes, and a bugbear of mine. The guitars and drums are often deemed much more important than the bass!
 12. Metal tuned to D?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eR18fufwdE Love that bass tone
 13.
It's going on the list of things I refuse to believe, along with God and potato bread outside of Northern Ireland.
Haha fair enough! To be honest I can't think of a single application where a LOW low E would actually be useful! And what the hell is potato bread??
 14.
ew...
No really, it was good man!
 15.
You can't drop tune a bass by an octave though.
Not necessarily true! I tuned my newest Peavey 6er EEADGC for a laugh and it was gut wrenchingly awesome, no flab and plenty of attack! Only a .130 string as well! To be fair though, the 35" scale, neck through, and string through body construction helped a bit.
 16.
Plenty of metal bands now have three bass players. Generally a couple of them haven't graduated into getting a real bass yet and make do with detuning their guitar, and eqing out the middly sound of guitar.
Hahaha! Try posting that on the sevenstring forums and see what happens
 17. Does it have to be a combo? If so, Markbass CMD102P If not... my Markbass F1 and 104HF is more than enough for any gig I've ever done... If you find them used on here you will easily be able to get them for less than £1000!
 18.
Pretty decent fella . I actually play and sing this in Delirium, and I have to concentrate on getting the notes so my version is probably a lot more sloppy!
God! Singing and playing at the same time is something I can only dream of doing at this stage! The odd backing vox (ie shouting) are about all I can manage
 19. That was pretty damn cool, nice one! Richie Kotzen's got a voice on him!
 20. Is it definitely passive? The reason I ask is that there's a battery compartment on the back. By the way, I used to use a limited edition one of these with huge single coils and an active/passive switch. It sounded equally as amazing in both modes, active mode was only really useful for changing the tone quickly where I was concerned.
 21. There's also a heavy metal version of this that's been going for a couple of years, and apparently is really successful! http://www.70000tons.com/ EDIT: Totally beaten to it by charic
 22.
How do these compare to L6 pod for "tone suck"? Do they bypass pure? Thanks B
They're not true bypass, but the change in tone is very minimal. One of the reasons I avoided multi units for so many years was because of the tone suck, but I ended up extremely happy with the Zoom
 23. It's still up here in Stoke at the moment guys
 24.
Better quality version without the radio announcements:
Nice one man, I'll edit the OP again
 25. If you want the tone of YOUR bass, go Markbass You can still fiddle with the filters to get nearly any sound you want (as long as it's clean)
