NAD: Markbass Marcus Limited (Yes the Iron Man one!)
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got 2 of them. 8ohm each. -
I can't see it on the Customisation page. Just has other tolex and baffle colours. Shouldn't be a paid for option though - it's got to be cheaper than the tolex.
-
With a bit of luck they've fixed that then. I want them to do well because they had the balls to take an enormous risk in entering into such a niche manufacturing industry.

It's just making me frustrated!!

I really like my One10 cabs. Great sound. They do suffer from the tolex peel. Does that annoy me? Yes, it does, a little. I never had that issue with Berg cabs. but for my taste the One10 sounds a lot better. Can I be arsed to complain or send them back or anything for what is a cosmetic issue I have experienced on other cabs (not Berg)? No. Will it make me not buy another 10inch series cab - don't know. Haven't given it any thought as so far the pair of cabs have dealt with everything I need them to. Will it stop me looking at a Supertwin or similar - no because they are covered differently IIRC. The only "build quality" issue I have is the tolex and that is a cosmetic quality issue rather than construction or performance. I'm not aware of other build quality issues. Do I want BF to change their processes? Of course - we all get gear lust by looks as well as specs and there's no doubt a peeling bit of tolex looks stinky poo next to a shiny Berg or Vanderklay cab, and those issues need to be fixed before any high end bass shops will stock BF next to other expensive brands. I suspect BF have managed to avoid that sort of direct comparison because they sell direct - otherwise the pressure from retailers would be immense - if a curious customer won't try them in a shop because the other brands next to it then it doesn't matter how good they sound as the customer will never find out. Or worse the customer will take it home and then bring it back for a refund. That is a dead easy way to ruin a reputation no matter how good it sounds. I bought mine blind because for me the most important issue was weight - so I bought one and was amazed by the weight and then was thrilled when the sound was what I wanted too. For my taste the 10 inch series are the best sounding cabs out there. I also think they look great - when the tolex is stuck down properly. High end does not need to be flashy like the berg pretend carbon fibre look, but it does need to look well finished. The tolex application on mine is not as good as my £170 Jet City guitar cab. I wonder if the 10 inch cabs should just be painted like the original ones. End the problem overnight?

Eich T-1000/Darkglass MT900V2 owner reviews
fretmeister replied to zelak999's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had the TecAmp Puma amp which basically is the Eich and a V1 Darkglass They are so massively different they are not really alternatives to each other. The Puma is the cleanest amp I’ve ever played. Too clean for me in the end. I found it a bit sterile. Of course the DG will do metal, but it’s got a good clean core sound too. I found it far more versatile than the Puma even when playing clean. i kept the DG and sold the Puma. However if you want a clean non-sterile amp as an alternative then the brand new Markbass Marcus Limited Gold Line is a cracker. Better EQ centres than the Puma and other Markbass heads, and has a warmth to it that the Puma couldn’t do. -

The DG is classier looking... The MB is tarted up and on the pull! -

I have finally been able to use it at big band rehearsal. In the mix the core tone is deeper than the DG, and the Ultralow 40hz control is brilliant for removing flub in what can be a very boomy room. I usually play a Precision with this ensemble, but I used my Berg Superlight. At the start it was a bit too mid scooped - not a surprise with a jazz type - but a tweak of the mids sorted that. I might get the footswitch so I can easily switch in the semi-para EQ for an easy change for slap. It was really punchy and had a great piano tone to the attack when played hard, and fattened up when played with more finger on the strings. When using the DG head I usually have the B3K on all the time at a low level. I purposely didn’t bring any drive with me to force me to learn the amp. Signal chain was bass, tuner, ThorpyFX Fat General Compressor, amp, Barefaced One10. Loved it! -

FS: Ibanez SR2605 Cerulean Blue 5 String - STUNNING!

Amplitube is one of many different music apps available. You need an interface - I use a cheap Line 6 Sonicport one - to get your bass plugged in. Then, and this is the clever bit, not only can you play along to stuff, you can slow it down without changing pitch and you can identify start and stop points to just practice a part of a tune. And it comes with half a dozen free amp models (mostly guitar) that can be added to. The B15 and the SVT models are very good. The demo version is free, but you will need an interface.

I've got one too. It's VERY clean sounding, super clear loads of headroom. I tend to turn the bass tone way down to warm it up a bit Battery life is excellent. Can go very loud indeed, far beyond sensible volume for hearing. Cons - I have Amplitube on my iphone and that can mix in anything from my iTunes library so if I want to play along to things on headphones I cannot be bothered to hook up the Bighead just as a headphone sound improving device. So I end up using my iPhone far more than the Bighead.

I only ordered my SY-1 a few days ago - fully in the knowledge that the next UK shipment is not due util the end of October... And I'm already bloody annoyed it isn't here yet! I've got rehearsal on saturday and I want to annoy them!

That's what I use. Plenty loud enough. Either with a DG M900 or a MB Marcus Limited 800. Sounds great.

Recommendations for a pickup please!
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Thank you. I'll have a look at them. -
Not fussed in the slightest.

I play at a local educational trust thing. On electric bass. They have a couple of doubles (that must be worth at least £7.25 on a good day) and they wish to have a pickup installed on one of them for use with the larger ensembles. Will be mostly played pizz, but a bit of arco. No slapping / rock-a-billy! Can anyone recommend a pickup for about £150 that would be worth having? Ideally one that can go straight into a regular bass amp without another preamp. thanks
