1.
Nice to see Kaz getting a mention - best known to me as one of Todd Rundgren's long-time associates, solo and in the various incarnations of Utopia.
Yeah, i had my dads Meatloaf Live DVD on about a year ago and was just sat there thinking how have i not heard of this guy before? Definately underappreciated. Liam
2. Cliff Burton (Metallica) Johnny Christ (Avenged Sevenfold) Chris Wolstenholme (Muse) Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) Kasim Sulton (Ex. Neverland Express(Meatloaf)/Solo) All of those have influenced me to play bass over the past 3 years. Liam
3. My band once got all 4 members, 2 1x15 PA cabs, PA head, Mics and stands, Peavey Guitar Combo, Marshall Guitar Combo, Line 6 Bass Combo, 2 guitars, Bass, Drum Kit (2 rack toms, floor tom, snare, kick, cymbals and hardware) and our guitarists mum (who was driving) into a Ford Galaxy. That was a tight fit. Nowadays we split it between 2 cars and we have some more speaker cabs for the PA. Liam
4. Snapped a string whilst tuning at a charity festival. Fortunately i only needed that bass for 4 songs and could do it on my 5. Other than that i've not erally had any problems. Liam
5. I have 2: And this: Nothing like Tim's usual stuff, and christmas themed, but just phenomenal. Liam
6. Fender Squier Jazz Bass Deluxe V Active. Got one sat on my knee right now. pick 'em up on ebay for £270. Liam
7. I use it all the time. One of the best programs i have. I've had the trial version of GP6 which was rather good, so i'm gonna get that when i can afford to, but for now i will stick with 5.2. Definately worth the money though, especially 6. Liam
8.
Yeah - cool aint it? They got some funky tunes going on and some amazing animations - I think the music is all done by one bloke. I like the starship one meself
I quite like the Pogo Sticks one. Theres alot of really good stuff that i'm quite tempted to learn when i have the time. Liam
9. Has anyone else on here heard of the genius that is Animusic? The 2nd gets better after around 2 mintues. Its basically computer generated music and animation, but done in such a good way. I think it uses MIDI sequencing for the music side of things but no idea about the animation. Liam
10. Bump for a brilliant little amp. I used to use one of these at school and it handled anything i threw at it well, including active basses with sh**tty EQ. Liam
11. I used to use 1.5 and 2mm picks, but i wasnt comfortable with them(Except 1, which i still have, Dunlop Tortex Sharp 1.5mm). I now use Jim Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm and also occasionally some 1mm (I think) Claytons. They feel more comfortable and actually give me a good tone. The sharp (EXCELLENT for speed playing, im gonna try the 1.14mm soon) And the Tortex 1.14's Both awesome, but i prefer the 1.14mm, i think thats the right thickness for me and what i want. Liam
12. I have heard someone get pretty close with a Boss MT-2, but that was a while ago so my memory of it may be abit off, i never managed it with my MT-2 but yet again i didnt try too hard. Liam
13. Welcome. Another punk lover i see, thats always good. Liam
14. AKG WMS40 Pro Flexx Wireless (Unless i find something better) Sterling by Musicman Ray 35 DR Neons Some new straps A few pairs of straplocks Bass Case A hefty stash of Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm picks Some custom A Little Bit Outlaw picks More Gigs Liam
15. WOW. That is one niiiceeeeeeeee Jazz bass, something like the one i have planned for when i can afford it. You've got yourself a damn good bass there it would seem. Liam
16. That is one nice looking bass there. I wish i could afford a Bongo, but a schoolkids bank balance doesnt alow for £1500 basses. I agree with the scratchplate change also, that was one pretty hideous tort plate. Liam
Ok chaps, just a small update. Due to the most hideous pearloid scratchplate on my bongo, I really wanted to get shot of it. However after a bit of searching and a bit of a wait,,,,I finally got my replacement scratchplate. In my eye this really makes the bass so much better.
17. The Ibanez GSR200 is a brilliant bass for the money (I payed £150 in '07 for mine) especially for someone just starting out on bass, so i recommend one of those, but as always, go and play some basses in your budget and pick which one feels and sounds best to you. Liam
Hello, Everything I read so far were really helpful. I used to play guitar a few years ago and i have an acoustic bass as well but I haven't played for a few years and I want to buy an electric bass and start from the beginning again. I've done a lot of research on basses on the internet but I haven't been in a shop yet ( which i will do soon). My budget is 200 pounds. Any recommendations for a new or used bass. I've also seen a few interesting models : Tanglewood 4PB/4 ST Ibanez GSR180, GSR 200JB, RBX170 Yamaha RBX170,RBX270J Peavy millenium 4BXP Washburn T14 CG,XB 120TR If you have any knowledge on these instruments please make a comment or please tell me your thoughts. Thanks
18. I use Venom Cables at the moment and my 20ft Sidewinder has lasted me a good 18 months so far. For £6.49 off ebay, that is rather good. Gonna get a cable or two from OBBM when i have some spare cash though. Liam
19.
I actually still have and use the thin crappy black nylon strap i got with my very first ever bass (a Squier P-Bass with a 15w amp and viper cable nearly 10 years ago!) on my Washburn with Grolsch washers. Truckstop
Same here, without the washers. i only used it on my main bass for about a year and a half but its now on my Ibanez and still gets used at my gigs. Its lasted 4 years so far. It's too short though, but i only need that bass for about 4 songs so i can cope. Liam
20. Welcome to BassChat. You'll now spend every bit of spare time you have on here, i can promise you that. Liam
21. I know it might sound abit stupid, but the book "Bass Guitar for Dummies" is actually really helping me at the moment. I'm also 15, play in a band and have been playing for about 3 and a half years (Can play to a grade 8 standard, not so good at theory) and its actually got some useful stuff in it. Liam
22. I think a stingray should sort that out to be honest, too bad im skint. Liam
Both Pups on together or a Humbucker will sort that out. Garry
23. Lord of the Low notes, or as my band myspace puts me "That humming thing in the background" but out of the OP's 3 choices i'll go Bassist. Liam
24. I play mainly 5, i could easily live without one, just after playing one for a year and getting used to playing songs on it, it just feels easier, and also i think i look wierd with a 4, it looks too small on me, so theres abit of aesthetic in there too. My next bass is either gonna be a 5 or 6, unless i find a REALLY good deal on a MusicMan Stingray 3EQ. Liam
