Original thread locked apparently but at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/187263-acoustic-image-contra-ii-bassdouble-bass-combo-with-extension-cab-and-original-coverscables-l500-withdrawn/page__fromsearch__1. Now I'm in rural Wales I'd be happy to post/courier also Chris
Sorry Chris, You had flagged it as 'withdrawn' so I closed it down. For information - if anyone gets stuck with locked ads if a sale fails or because of a change of mind then just PM one of the Mods and we'll sort it out for you pronto!

Pickup and pots replacement on a P-bass - advice needed please
icastle replied to tedmanzie's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yeah - that soldering isn't great. In fact it's so far away from being great that I'd be inclined to throw the whole lot away and start again to be honest. The capacitor is a 0.00001 MFD (microfarad) mylar film type and dead easy to get hold of. If you look on the round edges of the pots you should see a value stamped there. -
Only just spotted this (apologies if this has already been posted about) but it appears to be Jon Shuker's official retailer as well as retailer of other high end gear (eg Low End basses) http://www.bassbarn.co.uk/epages/es140349.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es140349/Categories
They're my local specialists.

Plug a cable into a Speakon socket - if it gets stuck then it's the other sort... (sorry, it was far too good an opportunity to miss... ) There are 2 way and 4 way Speakon connectors. You can use a 2 way plug (NL2P) in a two way socket (NL2S) OR a 4 way socket(NL4S). You can only use a 4 way plug (NL4P) in a 4 way socket or it'll get jammed. 4 way plugs have a metal release catch. 2 way plugs have a plastic release collar. Most gear uses the NL4 connectors, but there are a few bits of kit around that don't. If in doubt I'll always use NL2 plugs.
-
You can usually remove a jammed Speakon by wiggling it in the opposite direction and depressing the release catch a couple of times - it usually jolts the metal spring plate back into its correct position. There are two types of Speakon connector and it sounds to me as if you've used the wrong one.

Easier said than done. Anything like that would have to be via a form filled in during the advertising process. We're having enough trouble getting people to fill in a basic item like 'price'. Something to look into at a later date perhaps.

Pickup and pots replacement on a P-bass - advice needed please
icastle replied to tedmanzie's topic in Repairs and Technical
You can get some variation in tonal range by changing the cap/pot values - don't expect miracles though. As to whether it'll give you an 'improvement' or not isn't really measurable - you'll have to judge if you want to experiment further once you've had your new pickups fitted. -
To sound like Pino you'll need an OC2, a touch of chorus, a fretless bass - oh, and you need to be him as well.

I'm totally comfortable on a stage. I'll often walk about and chat with my fellow musicians, laugh and joke with the audience and am a serial heckler (both band and audience and sometimes both at the same time). I generally stick to black jeans, white collarless shirts, black boots and a black waistcoat when I'm playing - having a limited colour palette to choose from means it's one less thing to make a decision about. The one (and only) time I ever tried dancing on a stage led to me falling off of it, so I never tried it a second time. At the end of the night, when the clichéd band introductions are made, I usually get the biggest round of applause and a standing ovation. We think it's because people are relieved to know that they'll soon be seeing the back of me.

How do you 'notate' or write down your basslines?
icastle replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
I just remember them but I often forget what key they were in. -
The most usual assumptions that people make about me are: 1) I'm the roadie - I run about pulling cables, hoisting kit and setting up lighting like a mad thing and shout at anyone who gets in my way more than twice. 2) That I'm only a bass player - I can play several instruments proficiently and can bluff my way through a number of others. I just prefer playing bass. 3) That I can only play folk music - that's a personal preference, not a professional limitation.

I just practice my version of democracy in rehearsals. It generally involves some rude words alongside 'loud' and 'too'.
We are donating to help run the site and in turn we are getting unlimited listing in the classifieds section.
I'm still waiting to see if someone tries to sell their house in the 'Sell Anything' forum. £20 instead of estate agents fees has got to be a good move...
I've read most of this thread & one question I don't think has been asked is, how much does it cost to run Basschat for a year?
I don't know, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you. What I can tell you however is that the site running on donations alone since it's inception has meant that certain individuals have had to dip into their own pockets on a regular basis to maintain the site so that the rest of us could continue enjoying it.

Cleaning permanent marker off a fret board
icastle replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
Isopropyl is good but it also strips oil. Give your fingerboard a wipe over with some lemon oil or something similar afterwards. -
I'd bet that these guys can all sing and play along to the record, but they sure struggle when trying to play as a band.
'Struggle' is being somewhat generous. It sounded to me as if none of them had actually learned the same song.
Is a luthier someone who makes and repairs guitars, or just someone that repairs them?
Makes and repairs generally.
-
If you've left it plugged in for three weeks then the chances of it not being the battery are slim. Sounds to me like you've got a nice cheap 'repair' there timmo.
-
Totally impossible to say. For some people a couple of months is enough time whilst others may practice for years and never get to play in a band. It's all down to ability and a healthy dollop of luck.
