I'm an SR505 user, had mine for about 15 years now. Other basses have come and gone during that time, but my SR has always remained my 'workhorse'. If I ever had to replace it, I'd buy another one without any hesitation. Lovely light body, super slim neck and nicely balanced. The bass isn't too bad either.

In the context of what is being discussed here, the availability of MI is immaterial anyway.

I just leave all of my active basses set flat and sort out a close approximation of what I want using the amp tone controls. Any minor differences I may need (due to instrument changes for example) can be made with the minimum of fuss and stay pretty much static once set.
