1. pets and music equipment don't mix.
2.
I definitely remember it, but not particularly fondly! It was very high on 'cringe factor' IIRC..
aaah, but i guess it was acceptable in the 80's my mum and dad bought me some kind of rockschool book for bass, which i sort of looked at a bit. reckon it'd be a blast to see the shows again though.
3.
Really fancy a black Jack Cassidy at the moment, not to keen on the original Gibson type bridge but I reckon that would look great with the new Hipshot bridge replacement and will probably improve the sound and sustain!
you and me both !!!
4.
long time no speak mark...good to hear from you still in london and cooking the books? god bless geof
indeed...still choking on the big smoke and hanging out with the dusty volumes... how's things with you ?
5. you keep me hanging on by the the supremes. pure genius.
6. looks like a FAL to me....i had a very similar amp when i started out. made my a company in leeds i think.
7.
I agree it's overpriced. But here's how you can get one for free: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aOFvC2Emmu8&...feature=channel This company knows what it's doing.
plus the one. it's the tc electronics street team ! interesting amps too..
8. i've been having a look at this: http://soundadvice.info/index.htm and this http://www.hse.gov.uk/noise/musicsound.htm (esp the 'myth-buster' pdf) and i can't see anything about noise meters and automatic power cut-outs (but i'll admit i've not read the whole thing !) they do mention a few times that attending a loud concert implies 'informed consent' tho...i'm prepared to be put right if i'm wrong !! edit: having mused on the stuff on those pages, it seems the whole thing is slanted toward protecting employees in venues (which the employer has a obligation to under the Noise at Work Act 2005 anyway) and also making sure that a club or venue is designed so that there's no excessive sound levels inside - stopping reflections building up high sound levels and so on. apologies if this has been said before...i've only really just looked into this thread.
9.
....well he sold it to me!!! i find the SL to be a useful change of sound for more edge. it is very possible to get an instant 'steve harris' type sound, if the pedal is set right. The key to success here lies with careful use of the effect level knob, to add 'just enough' to achieve the desired effect
i think you have more patience than me, and possibly a more controlled playing style
10. i had a steel leather for a while...it's an interesting effect, but not one i was that enamoured with after a while. basically it senses the level of the signal coming through it, and if that level exceeds a certain threshold it boosts a group of frequencies that add some more 'clank' or punch to your sound. i found it a wee bit uncontrollable, and better for fingerstyle than plectrum. ymmv of course
11.
Now I just need to find out WTF to do with it......
that's kindof the fun of it to me...bass chords, upper register 'guitar-like' parts, drones...it pushed you in a different direction have fun...that's the most important thing
12. i've got a vi...but it didn't cost £5k...but then it wasn't made in 1968. i've always contended it's a bass rather than a baritone - but i use it for noise/post-rock things, although never live sadly.
13. many thanks wb...very nice guy to deal with folks, so c'mon dive in for the last couple
14. i'm half-way through adding this info to the wiki... might be a useful resource
15. thanks for the reports guys... what was bad about playing there ?
16. they say they've got an bass amp there, but don't mention what sort. i'm going to be playing there soon and i was curious
17. here's my pic - i even brushed my hair for you ! cheers ped

19.
I must admit i really like that.
plus the one !
20.
Probably. They cut it with any old sh*t these days.
21. mine arrived today...it's great....i'll be posting a pic as soon as i...erm....wash my hair thanks ped. i reckon we need to make it a condition of getting one that you post a pic
22.
For me, Alex James and James Leech are my biggest inspirations. I know they aren't technically astounding, but that doesn't matter.
totally with you on alex james...he is, imho, an amazing bass player...very groovy - what he does against graham coxon's guitarisms are simply sublime. can't right biographies for toffee, but a damn fine player
23. i love the look of thunderbirds, but having played a few, the neck dive totally puts me off. they're just too much hard work !
24. whereabouts in the world are you ? if your heart isn't set on the samson, then i've got a behringer ep2500 here in london - cheap as chips...i need the space !!
