1.
It's a Baritone guitar through and through.
ahem...it's a bass... actually, forget it...i've been down this road too many times
  2. how does it run with the fan defeated ?
  3. i recorded a tune a while back using just my fender vi, if anyone's interested what one (or several) sounds like
  4.
Actually reminds me of early Fuzzbox (the good stuff, Rules and Regulations etc) Bostin Steve Austin was a fantastic album - those were the days, when Indie was just that, and you could make a video on super8 for a tenner and get it on national tv on the Chart Show...... I quite like this
plus the one (spesh on the fuzzbox front !)
  5.
I think we are all really saying the same thing in our own way and not quite meeting in the middle. I respect all your feelings on the matter. Great inventive player, just doesn't float your boat and that's OK.
nicely put
  6.
I'm not going to listen to music I don't like because the bass player's good.
this is what it comes down to for me really - sure i can say 'yes, that's very skillful bassplaying', but it's the whole package for me - if the music doesn't engage me then that's about it. as an analogy - i find representational painting leaves me cold. i can appreciate the skill of the artist, but i certainly won't go to a gallery to look at an exhibition of it, whereas i'd be in like flynn if it were, say kandinsky.
  7.
I have real trouble with' bassplayers bassplayers', so to speak. The notion of the bass as a truly solo instrument doesn't work for me. Although some players have to really push the envelope so new techniques etc are discovered but apart from that. Mebbe I'm just an old fashioned bump, bump, debump, bump bump guy BB
plus the one. it leaves me cold too. it's technically very good, but just does nothing for me. each to their own of course.
  8.
Ah, but they did a few years back, for one year only.
they were reissued in the mid-90's too, which is when mine was made. they're an unusual instrument, but an awful lot of fun.
  9. i was hoping he'd be covering the gong song.
  10. how about arabassist's artcore ?
  11.
Tried this before my MXR M80 last night, they sounded excellent together! Couldn't have imagined a better combination of grind and all out fuzz. Amazingly it sounded controlled and clear too! I'm thinking this pedal is definitely a keeper, it handles everything i throw at it and takes up a third of the pedalboard space of my Big Muff
you're making me wish i still had mr m80 !! but i agree, it's a great sounding fuzz. the subs are amazing !
  12.
I'm getting tempted now - my current "chainsaw" fuzz is a Blowtorch. I really like it but it's got a little something missing and it doesn't sustain well. This may be a bit more versatile though. Hmm.
i've spent the afternoon with my mastodon (!!) and to my ears it's got something over the blowtorch. i'm very happy with it...it's going to sound great with the techno stuff i do. the gated fuzz sounded are fantastic.
  13.
It didn't work for me either. nor did the Para. EBS Microbass was the answer.
plus the one.
  14.
Thats a truly lovely bass - but one hell of a lot of spondoolies - think what else you could get with the money - a second hand Sadowsky plus a couple of Fenders (P and J) and a lightweight rig (or a crate of Cristal )
i'd rather have the eccleshall
  15. a friend of mine years ago had one. it was ok...not the best sound in the world tbh.
  16. blaaaaaaaardy hell that's beautiful
  17. i'm 'between bands' at the moment, and to be honest i'm enjoying the lack of hassle in my life...although it has left quite a gap in my life. i'm trying to concentrate on writing new music for myself and getting my head round fretless. i am keeping ym eyes open for band stuff to do, but i think i'm going to be very selective about what i go for. so what i'm trying to say is....don't give up and don't flog everything !! interests wax and wane and i'm sure you'll a lot more bass-centric soon.
  18. you have mail.
There is also the EHX LPB-1 which does the job pretty well, and they are a bargain at about £25-30 new.
the ehx unit isn't, as far as i've heard, a flat boost...it does add some colouration. all depends if you like the colouration !
  22.
I vill not buy thees record..... Eet is scretched.
boost

an mxr micro amp ? bulletproof and a clean boost.
  24. pfffffft. it's scratched.
  25. i've used one quite a few times in the past - if it makes things easier, then why not ? a guitarist i was playing told me it wasn't fair...if he used one he looked liked he was cheating, but a capo on a bass looked 'experimental'
