Thanks Ian so I can put the lead to the second cab in input or link and I wont fry anything then ?
Yup. Electrically, they're normally parallel connections, both connected together. Unless they're unusual cabs, the only difference twixt the two (input & link) is how they're labelled.

Either: Amp -> cab1 -> cab2 Or, if the amp has 2 outputs you could go Amp1 -> cab1 Amp2 -> cab2 Either way, the load presented to the amp is the same.

FWIW I really like the pickups in my Classic J. I do find the output a bit on the low side though, the J bridge PUP especially so. After a few emails back and forth with Alun Entwistle - who makes the stock PUPs, albeit to Overwater spec - I went for his standard JBX bridge PUP, just to try to equalise the relative outputs really, rather than to change the tone, and I'm really pleased with it. A touch brighter sounding than the stock one, but still has most of the smoothness that I liked and the output's a bit stronger so it's much more usable blended with the P PUP. And all for the princely sum of a tenner I've not tried the JBXN (I don't think it was available at the time I was looking) but reports are very good.

FWIW my experience with Yamaha's EMX powered mixers has been great. Sound good, great VFM, reliable.
PMT in Norwich were very helpful. Let me try a bass in a small room, great TC combo to play through. No pressure to purchase, told them I was only window shopping. Went back a couple of weeks later, bass was sold. The Ibanez lined fretless is no longer in production but they found one in another of their stores and had it sent down. Wouldn't let me take it away until they'd checked it over. Excellent service, recommended.
Beat me to it Mark. I tried a G&L at PMT in Norwich a while back. I didn't buy it (although I wanted to, before I played it...) but not because of the attitude of the staff there. They couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. And I've found the guys at PMT Cambridge OK as well. Shame they don't often have anything much in stock that interests me...

Your preferred method of tuning guitars and bass guitars
barkin replied to dazzyroots's topic in General Discussion
I don't need to tune my bass - the shop did it for me when I bought it -
It was happening for a while, but our singer finally got pushed out/quit today, which although it causes pain finding a new one, he was over-committed on other stuff and could not devote the time required. So - I need a classic and modern rock singer and I've run out of people I know or would do anything with in a band. Male or female, no preference, but what is the best way: Joinmyband Basschat (I cannot see a bass forum being the way to go!) Gumtree ad in local music shop What would you recommend.....?
All of 'em. And also any local musician oriented groups on Facebook.

Bass mix in live concerts.... Disappointing?
barkin replied to lowendgalore's topic in General Discussion
You're not alone. I rarely bother going to big, name gigs these days, as the sound (overall - not just bass) generally has me thinking "WTF..." -
Overwater Tanglewood - Sherlock Holmes Required!
barkin replied to DavidMcKay's topic in General Discussion
But why a bolt-on neck when all the other Overwater Tanglewoods are thru-neck?
They're not. The Classic J, for example, is bolt-on too. -
Bought some lights from Colin, in a super easy transaction. Cheers matey
Julien bought a pair of lights from me. Drove up as promised and paid upfront. Had a good old bass related chinwag. Great guy to deal with, highly recommended and I can only echo the comments made in previous posts.
...and while he was there he also collected some lights that I'd bought from Whizzzy, and transported 'em back here. Cheers fella - much appreciated.

ISTR them posting here (user name - Ashdown Engineering) recently, that there are only 6 full-time people.

Just got a set of tuners from Paul and, once again, the whole transaction was a predictable pleasure from start to finish. Great comms, well packed, dispatched promptly, as described, etc etc. Paul's a totally top man - deal with confidence.
I accidentally end up on peoples home pages all the time,
Me too, mainly when I'm using my laptop with the slidey touchpad thingy.

I had a MAG head once, did the same sort of thing. Set about it with a liberal dose of Servisol in all the pots and switches, and it was right as rain again. As far as I'm aware, it's still going strong.

Quick question - neck pocket / compatibility Vintage V4 (JHS)
barkin replied to biro's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the neck pocket's a couple of mm narrower - ~61mm against 63.5mm (2.5 inches) for Fenders. -
Amps do differ in how the volume control affects output; some deliver most of it fairly early on with little increase towards the top end of the range; others are very 'linear' and keep increasing as you dial up to 10; and some seem to deliver most of the usable output in the top half of the range.
My experience, and others I think, of the Hartke LH's, is that the volume control is very "polite" until it gets to about 1-2 o'clock. (5-6 on the dial) and that after that it gets proper loud. If it was at 4 (11 o'clock-ish) I'd say it probably had loads, and I mean loads, more grunt on tap. Maybe the Ampeg's the same, albeit different IYSWIM ?

Making A Name For Yourself: Cover Band Promotion
barkin replied to allighatt0r's topic in General Discussion
Agree with all of the above. Its a case of keep calling the pubs that say they will ring you back.
I've always found ringing pubs a bit of a waste of time. Get in their face ! -
I *think* the 41x's have a different (slightly slimmer) neck to the other current models - 42x/102x/202x I've recently picked up a 1024, and I love it - a rock monster!
