Essentially it's an old SWR EQ section with a bit of dirt and compression in front of it. Useful mix of ideas.

EHX Small clone (cloned by yours truly).

It'll do anything you need it to - individual controls for input and gain mean that you can trade one off against the other - turn the input way up and drop the gain for clean sounds. You can also change the 12AX7 tube for a 12AU7 - that'll drop the amount of gain on tap - use the 'boost' knob to compensate for any signal loss earlier in the signal path.

Turn up, tune up, shut up. And don't be a dick.

I'm another Dave Hall VT1 user; I've tried the Aguilar Tone Hammer, Sansamps, Xotic BB preamp, and a good few others besides. The only one I kept was the VT1 EQ, it's just more flexible than the others and sounds better (in my opinion).

A good octaver? They're always useful.
