1.
Excellent link - outstanding! RRP in Germany is €115 but MusikProduktiv do them for €72.50. Or you could go to The Bass Centre, of course, if you don't mind paying £52.
Hi Jack, have they arrived? Do the front and back zip flap things come right off or just fold up and velcro in position? And could I stack my percussion box on top of the rackbag on top of my cabs? The top looks a bit too lumpy to put things on (and expect them to stay there )
 2. Booked a support band on a "sell tickets, keep £2 per ticket sold" basis. The guit@rse I was dealing with went home right after playing their set. Come pack up time for us his big burly bandmates are still there looking a bit perturbed .. Somewhere along the line it had got translated into " get paid £100 no matter that you didn't sell any tickets" and I was threatend with broken bits if I didn't pay up ... Thanks mate ...
 3.
Well ok I will take a number then. Just incase anyone does drop out. Thanks
How's it going?
 4.
For what they cost you will be hard pushed to beat cables made by our own OBBM.
+1 (actually I think it's about + 5 now for my collection of Dave's cables) It's rather like Hi Fi, the really cheap stuff sounds pants. Spend a bit more and it will sound pretty good. To make a significant difference to that you need to spend a fortune. So, tell Dave (OBBM) what you want and you will sound fine.
 5.
Just thought i'd thank you guys for the help. I managed to get a refund as I raised a dispute with the payment on paypal fortunately before he had withdrawn the money. meaning he was forced to refund me. The guy probably had the guitar but I wasn't willing to take the risk.
hey good news ... Well done.
 6.
My guitarist gets confused by my B string, every time. Dipstick. I've just moved onto a bass that only has side markers for the first time and it's made no difference at all.
+1 I've just restrung my no dot markers bass to E-C too. Got to keep them on their toes
 7.
Mmm lets just call it a collaboration rather than an endorsement because I'm underwriting the financial side of things. I'm not really able to endorse gear as such, but Jon is definitely helping me out with an idea I've been mulling over. Anyone who has already seen my comments on graphite necked basses in other threads could probably put some of the pieces together. But there's some new bits being designed and prototyped as I speak which will add some extra versatility for players in covers bands like myself. Because I haven't tried any of it out, I don't know how good it will be in practice so its better I say less for the time being.
File me under "interested" A bit of a shame it's not a bonkers multineck project though
 8.
i've had basses before that only had side markers - no problems with it all - although it can confuse guitarists when they're trying to figure out something you're playing by watching your left hand!! peace c
Snap fun isn't it
 9. I worried about this but then realised that I don't use the front markers when I play, only the side ones (and mine light up ) However my guitarist uses my front markers to check what key we are playing in sometimes (in impromtu numbers, we are not that chaotic) so it throws him a bit when I play my bass with no front markers...
 10. I may have missread this thread but are you looking to P/X this fine example of Chinese instrument innovation for some underwear pictures from the Littlewoods catalogue? Male or female? If not, have a bump ..
 11.
You need to give an idea of price if you want to sell here my friend.
+1
 12.
Well I may be looking for a reliable dep at some point this season as work is a flooding in..... Plus we have just been featured in Brides magazine also.... so thats bound to create a stir.... fee rates from October are starting at £2500 inc DJ...
neat
 13.
Had a great Wedding Gig on Friday with my Function band.... 350 people.... mostly Russian which was very strange.... OTT payer and as it was in a private hall there was no curfew on time.... we decided to play the last song at midnight.... then the best man came up and gave each of us £50 to carry on playing..... we stopped again after 20 mins..... then he came up and gave us another £50 each..... in total it happened 3 times..... that was on top of our fee!!!!!
He he Hey Crez, just remind us of your fee rates again? Where can I get those gigs???
 14.
I used to hate gigs where you're not getting any rapturous feedback from an audience (if indeed there was one) and would just get visibly more and more fed up as the set dragged on but now I don't mind them. At worst they are a paid rehearsal. We did one to about 30 people a few weeks back and I put in as much effort as I usually do and had a blast in the process. Stick with it man.
yeah paid rehearsal of your full stage show .. I learned ages ago that playing really, really, well to the 30 people who bothered to turn up is a really good way to draw a bigger crowd next time ... They go off and tell people about this great band they saw, what their mates were mssing and how well they played "even though there was just 30 of us, it was like a personal concert" etc .. Works wonders ... However if you turn in a lacklustre performance 'cos "no one" turned up then no one will next time either ...
 15.
Thanks for your kind words. I think we'll stick to pub gigs for a while until we find our feet. This was our third outing -- the previous, at a social club, was a disaster of similar proportions. The only way is up ... baby. Cheers Mark
PM me if you want some tips
 16.
Our newly-formed covers band played a village fete on Saturday -- the biggest crowd in my short career (several hundred, with 1,000 tickets sold) and 10k PA outdoors. The sound was gorgeous -- but we were on too early and vanished into a pool of listener apathy without so much as a ripple. Or we were crap, depending on your viewpoint. I prayed for the ground to swallow me up as we played song after song for 75 minutes with nothing but the faintest, polite clapping between and about 100 yards to the nearest punter. And it's amazing how a situation like that saps morale all round, leading to f-ups and blunders. We started out playing our best ever but ended up shambling about like dullards. Then the second band came on and comprehensively blew us away. This morning, I was dejectedly wondering if I should jack it all in. We certainly need a serious shake-up in many areas, including the set list. The only good news -- we got £75 each, a personal best. Rant over -- thanks for listening. Cheers Mark
You did well... 75 minutes outside in the afternoon with loads of distractions for the audience is a hard gig for anyone, let alone a new band. Just to get through it is an acheivement. However I'd suggest you stick to gigs after dusk for a while. Punters are a tad easier to entertain then and it could have been worse, You could have been on after that other band ....
 17.
The Shcroeder too heavy? I'll be interested to see what you end up with then My mistake - they're not heavy at all I just thought they would be with 2 speakers in 1 cab - why did you get rid of yours? Glad the AE12's suit you, I couldn't get the very low room filling throbbing bass but I was using the Berg IP power amp and a pre-amp that didn't like my Ashbory, they might go lower with the markbass head.
Ah .. I've only played an Ashbory in a situation where I couldn't really try it out so I am not sure about that. Certainly with my Shuker "P bass on steroids" the MB seems capable of smooth subs through the Schro and Bergs. Mark at Bass Direct (Poptart on here) will know the differences between the amps as he sells both. That's where I got my Bergs I was very happy with the 1212L but I wanted a two cab stage rig (for various odd reasons .. PM me if you are that interested ) and my 1212L was 4 ohms. Hence I tried to find two 8 ohm 1212L's to buy (used) but when that failed I looked at the Bergs and they did the job. No problem selling the 1212L, of course and I'd happily have 2 x 1212L's again. Sonically I was happy with it. I'm also happy with the Bergs .. Guess I'm not that picky/able to tell the difference between two such outstanding options. They are both so much better than the heavy Peavey combo I had before that it's a relatively small sonic change from Schro' to Berg' ...
 18.
Good to hear it went well OG, when you gigging in Whales mon?
Hummmmmmmmm Sorry Jase my band don't like to risk coming over from the mainland, in case they get subsumed by the culture, I guess ... Got one in Lydney in July .. right side of the bridge but still in England
 19.
Thanks Mr Git (or can I just call you 'Old'?), I do like the markbass heads for the old skool sound without the old skool weight and I find that both filters on full gives maximum warmth. It doesn't matter that the VPP adds top because I lose all that with the EQ anyway - maybe it shouldn't have any effect but I can definately hear something that I like with it on. My Trace combo has a shape switch and I always use that too, even though I cut all the treble and mid with the graphic eq. I've tried some Berg cabs ( 12", 15" and 6 x 10") since my last post and they're not for me - loud, light but not low enough. Same problem with the Aguilar 12" and Epifani 2 x 10". The Schroeder 1212L sounds very nice, but expensive and probably not lightweight enough. I'm running out of options cab wise, with Acme and basschatter alexclaber's Big One being top of the list at the moment. Still, time is on my side - I'm only a kid!
Call me anything yuo like .. you'll not be the first I paid attention during our reggae bit last night and the pair of Bergantini AE12's can certainly do it .. very low room filling throbbing bass .. We were on a bass enhancing hollow stage but I think it all managed it anyway. Still. if you've tried them ... The Shcroeder too heavy? I'll be interested to see what you end up with then
 20.
Hi I purchased and rather fine Tokai Hard Puncher from chingo123. The transaction was fast, the packaging was good and the shipping was fast. The guy is a dealer so is set up to trade all over the world. Go fo it. Nick
Thanks Blink. I've had a nice email exchange with him. Sadly someone BIN'd the bass I was looking at whislt I was out gigging yesterday but I'm happy with the guy when he gets in what I'm looking for.
 21.
BJ, 2. dont buy it on the assumption that it will have enough volume or abilty to match it with an accoustic guitar. It wont unitl you plug it in!
+1
 22. Fundraiser for the Whales and Dolphins Conservation Society, Sold out so well that the nice man organising said he's thinking of doing two nights running next year (though that may have changed once he's recovered from dancing his socks off last night) Great crowd really up for it, no problems getting dancers up for the called bits .. Dave II on guitar, mandolin and keys on his third gig with us (we have two guitarists called Dave, usually one at a time but sometimes we have both ) He's a youngster (29!) and really gaining in confidence quickly. He even put up with us picking on his parents as they happened to be there Had a few wedding punters in checking us out, all happy and got a few gig enquiries at the end and very likely back for the same event next year. Result! The organiser even gave a few extra quid to cover the increase in petrol costs in the time between booking us and the gig. Very nice of him. Dave II won a really good raffle prize All in all a great success . I recorded one number with my new Zoom H2 and the new Bergantino cabs sound great .. My sloppy playing is very evident but I'm fairly cool with that ... Oh and I was too loud, apparently (tell me DURING the gig you silly people!) Great stuff ..

 25.
Si, i have been hit badly by customs when buying stuff from ebayers in other countries..............................so either add in the likely extras (20% sounds about right), or ask your seller to be conservative with the selling price,or possibly even declare as a ift (you just MIGHT get away with it at customs, but not always!!).The downside to that though is if the item is damaged, insurance will only cough up for declared value, so you lose out anyway
Yeah Cheers ... it wasn't really the customs, etc , that I was asking about, more the integrity of the seller ...
