2. Can I use an animated gif for my avatar? Are there rules or guidelines? Ta
3. There are, however, people based in Japan who will buy and ship a new Fender CIJ for you as a service, and for a small fee ...
4. Ed says it's like jump (as in jump jive) He gives the T Bone Shuffle an an example An example
5. Radio Two has a series on Bo Diddly at the mo and last night's one went into where the Bo Diddly rhythm came from. Listen again here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/musicclub/doc_bodiddley.shtml I like the bit where Bo tries to differentiate between his beat and its totally identical predecessors "it's a different melody" Wikipedia on the Juba / Ham Bone/ bo didly rhythm here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juba_dance No mention of flat tyres though.. I'll be interested to know what they mean.
6. There's a sticky on strings you might like to have a look through here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=660&hl=strings
7.
Jim Lea used a P bass TV shows in Germany but it was borrowed rather than owned. Jim Lea is a severely underrated bassist as is Slade as a rock group...fecking Xmas single!!
They are certainly not underrated around here. They didn't do a bad single .. IMHO. and Come on Feel The Noise, Far Far Away and How does it Feel are sheer brilliance..
8.
Ipswich, unfortunately.
Ha ha Best leave it at that I think
9. But it's about our own personal integrity I suppose. We felt uncomfortable falsely brewing up enthusiasm when it may well have already of been there. We felt much better doing an encore that's been genuinely asked for than one contrived in advance. Horses for courses though and I accept that. On a more practical level - if we'd put in a performance and didn't get asked for an encore at the end, we'd have to ask ourselves why (it was probably blindingly obvious why) then improve or adapt the performance so that it was more enjoyable for the punters and thus more rewarding for us. Hey Sorry Outshined I did rather jump up on that. Just trying to suggest fast path ways past the fumbling amateur part to the nice part when everyone cheers, joins your mailing list and books you back for more They can work on their integrity then
10.
lol i've done a few gigs before (3 or 4 probably) and my rhythm guitarist/singer has been on the metal band scene around here for years and he's done loads of gigs so he knows what he's doing up there. It's only really a tester gig, but as long as people like the music i don't really care.
Oh you'll be fine ... Yeah one of your band mates looks like he's been around a few years longer than the other three bit like the Fonze Vs Richie and Ralph .... "So, Mr Fonzerelli, as a man well in to his 30's, why exactly are you hanging around with 14 and 15 year old school boys? : )
11.
Good luck man. I'm not a big fan of the planned/fake encore tho. We used to do it and it seemed a bit awkward and not "keeping it real". Nowadays we just do the planned set and if like usual we get an encore we've always got something in our back pocket. No one's expecting a new band (first gig and all) to have a "back catalogue". Do your 4 songs, melt a few faces and leave 'em wanting more for next time.
Keep it real? Why? "Real" for an inexperienced band is shuffle on fumble about a bit, play to themselves or their feet, mumble a bit then leave. No one will know who you are or think you are any good .. It may be real but it's hardly likely to accelerate your progress rapidly - these things will People think bands are great because they see other people around them reacting favourably. All I'm suggesting is helping that happen rather than just leaving it luck... You can afford to keep it real once you are experienced and know how to take the stage like you own it, work the room and have loads of good stuff to play. How long did that take? But for now BB should "fake it til you make it" - ie do the stuff experienced bands do and and pretend your are really successful, half teh room will believe you are and everyone will enjoy it a lot more, especially you. Outshined, How does anyone know that you don't orchestrate your encore and that it's real? What's the difference?
12. Bought one from Amazon last week after finding this thread. It's just a basic one ... then found one in the charity shop so my kid can play with that one as it has lghts ... no rev counters though ... Not sure what it's doing but diferent bits of my arms now ache So how do they work? and how do you start them without the string thing
13.
It's a 32" scale so good for smaller hands.
If it hangs to the left like the T'birds that would help I guess ... Where are you, Pete
14. Oh well It's sale price exceeded my current GAS allowance so the desire has subsided for now
15.

I wasn't joking ... is that Up North Speak for 20 quid?
16. The IEM sounds great. Can you converse with your band mates with them in, during songs or is it down to lip reading ? Jack. You may want to try a Schroeder or Bergatino cab. In my experience both of them make the bass so much more audible on stage.
17.
I also like seeing the 20 spots stuffed in the pot on the mantleshelf.
Hey Doc, What does that mean?
18. No Humbug Stripes? awwwwww Looks cool none the less
19. Play to the audience, not each other
20.
Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet. That would be perfect. Clip it in the pause at around 40 secs or at the stop at 1min 57sec , in with the first big chord. Sorted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUmq1cpcglQ
That's in my "bass teasers" list .. shame it's now associated with Alan Sugar and The Apprentice .... If you start with that be prepared for a chorus of "you're fired" .....
21. Yeah Townsend looks like he'd rather be having colonic irrigation than playing this gig ...
22.
Haha all good ideas! might give that a go We've got a pretty cool pre-recorded intro sorted too, should be a good gig i hope. At the rolls royce social club thing in hucknall, and we'll be playing thrash metal/hardcore sort of stuff, we're covering bullet for my valentine's scream aim fire, lord of hate by death angel and we've got two slightly more thrashy originals called sacrifice and from the ashes.
Oh in that case I'd encore with Lady in Red
23. Arrrrrrgh! Well there you go, that sorts it .. A flying V is cool enough to make most people look good .. but there are limits
24.
I can actually carry all my gear in in one trip. Bass and amp on back, cab in one hand. All my leads, wireless system ect in the amp bag (MB bag)........ I then make about 5 other trips bringing in the drums, PA speakers, a combo or two etc etc. :-(
Huuuuuuum a very common situation
