2.
A bit rich calling themselves 'bassguitarpartsdirect'... they have nothing that fits a Warwick. 'fendertypethingsareus' more like
Not true, Everything there will fit a Dion, given the right amount of routing, drilling, filling and hammering

 4. Yup, I'm with Kev .. Not his fault theBeat has made some assumptions. If you want to get your money back, mate, copy Kev's eBay advert and relist it.

 6.
If it's an Allparts neck, I'm guessing they turn up without logos on so ALL logos have to be added on by the end user.
Allparts necks have proper Fender logos - official, like, as they are licenced replacements for damaged bits.. Never seen one with the custom shop transfer though..
 7.
Shut your mouth
I'm talkin' 'bout bass Shaft!
 8. Probably has a built in wah wah....... You say this bass shaft is a bad muthu?
 9. No through necks here but Shukers (and the man) are fab (other luthiers are available)
 10.
FREE "Walk in my Shadow". What was I missing all those years ago! Brilliant simplicity. Just roll around as you play and feel it. What a bass, perfect tone for the song and just the right number of notes (Simon Kirke?). What a vocalist (Pau Rodgers?). Now that's voice used as an instrument.
The bass player in Free was Andy Fraser (still playing, and looking good ) http://www.andyfraser.com/intro.html He was about 16 years old when he played All Right Now and had such a fresh approach to bass playing that we all had a "wow! moment at the time too .... Simon Kirke was the drummer, Paul Kossof on lead and Paul Rogers on Vocals .. Start with The Free Story, but make sure you download Wishing Well (not on the CD) and the Mr Big live version as well, - cracking bass solo over just two chords .. Oh there's a youtube promotional vid .. just avoid looking at Paul Rogers' loon pants, God they were hard to wear and retain your decency http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK89EVPRaX4
 11. You may want to try resting your bass on your left thigh, with the body between your legs, left leg raised a bit, spansih guitar style. The angles of your left hand then change and are more relaxed ..
 12. There's a bunch of using powerballs .. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=powerball Maybe that can help .. or my friend is an Alexander Technique teacher in Cardiff if you want your body stance and mechanics sussed ... OTPJ I'd like a copy of Thump if you have a spare
 13.
I've forgotten his damn name, the guy who played with John Martyn, just gorgeous voice support.
Danny Thompson? I like it whe the bass takes a bit of the melody (or vice versa I guess - chick or egg?) and plays that. The best examples I can think of right now are teh hits of Altered Images , Happy Birthday etc I think they were played by Johnny McElhone with whom I share a birthday
 14.
Can I be the token contrary person? Do I need to ask permission? I don't see what the problem is. I've done hundreds of gigs where we have by definition had to play quietly - by this I mean that people should be able to have a conversation without raising their voices while in close proximity to the band. Think background music at corporate functions, restaurants, soup music at weddings, etc. I love it. There is often a great deal of artistic freedom and you can hear all that is going on with the music. You don't have to worry about earplugs or ringing ears after the gig. And you only require a tiny amount of gear to make it work - sometimes no amplification at all, so there is no heavy duty loadin, setup and breakdown. Nice. As others have suggested, use a minimal PA and keep it quiet. Get the drummer to use brushes, or even percussion. A free and easy "noise meter" are the people around you - if they're having to lean into each other to talk, you're too loud. So you can't play funky/bluesy/rocky music quietly? I disagree - I find that an audience favourite at the kind of gig described above is "Pick Up The Pieces" played on flute, acoustic guitar (or piano), double bass and drums (with brushes). Works really well. Jennifer
yes, sure and that is fine if that is what they people wanted ... but it sounds from the OP as if they booked a rock band ............
 15.
haha, me and the singer in my band are 49 and our guitarist is 22. We got a review that read '...look like a couple of members of the Stooges have kidnapped Harry Potter...'
Ha ha yeah we've just hired our dep chordal kid as an extra member .. He's 20+ years yonger than the rest of us. We call him the token yoof or Emo .. I think it helps keep the whole band fresh cos you can vampire the engergy from them and then get a new one once they are exhasted ...
 16.
Or 'f*** off / you're sh*t' etc! or is that just me?
I depped with a band once who's singer refused to play any more after their last number - no encores - and the horn section was on it's way out of the door within 4 minutes of the last note - they were stopped by the bouncers whilst teh singer was told, in no uncertain terms, that 20 more minutes were required .. (Stop press! "Dodgy looking musicians stopped from LEAVING a club by door staff" )
 17.
OK, so why the deltic diesel then? Are you a trainspotter on the quiet?
Nah, I retired my Ian Allen's about 40 years ago Never did see a Deltic in the tin.. Wrong region. It was just one of those t'interweb tangents - ended up finding out what the Deltic loco was powered by ... What a peculiar engine! Then found the animation ... Just liked it ..
 18.
We're booked for a marquee wedding at an 'established' venue in the midlands next month. We've just been sent the following as a warning: "1 - they have very miserable neighbours who 'won't like rock', apparently they particularly dislike the bass.... 2. the have environmental health fitting a sound limiter this week which has to be set at 54db on the boundary of their property. This does mean it can be louder inside the marquee, but who knows how much. 3. we have to cross a river to get to the marquee - this can be achieved by footbridge or by driving through a ford" How exactly are we supposed to gig with that ?
Can it. You can't play properly under those restrictions. If they didn't mention it when booking you it's probably breach of contract conditions so you should get full fee if it comes to an argument and you need the money. If this happened to our band we'd just let them off the fee, 'cos that's our internal agreement and it works in our favour in the long term, but unless you have an acoustic show you can do instead you are on a hiding to nothing. I'm not sure if this is apocryphal, and Balcro may be able to confirm this, but I heard that if there is a breach of a "keep it quiet" order the enforcement officers can confiscate the gear responsible for the noise, just as they can if someone in a flat plays Dancing Queen at full blast all night on their stereo ...
