My new cab is on the way! Schroeder content...
Not being able to drive has always meant that gear size needs to be kept to a minimum. It would be great to use a two cab rig but i never have.
Well the little 2x Berg AE12 stack is great for many reasons beyond the great sound. Almost a single trip in with the MB head and one bass (though I never ever have such a small amount of gear on real gigs) So WOT, does your new grille have "Northern Country Rock" on it? -
Top call - 3 songs and an encore.
Yeah, you really don't want to do all the work on your 4 songs, play them so well that everyone (ie your 20 mates you take with you) loves you and demands an encore and you have nothing prepared to play .... There's a small risk that you won't get an encore so you need to stage manage that by clearing your plan with the promoter and by getting your 20 mates to yell wildly at the end of your "last" number to demand an encore ... Crowds tend to react predictably, given the right cues and clues ... so play the game and remember to say "This is our 'last number' wink wink" before the pretend last number so they know to call for an encore when you say "Thangewverymuch, Wembly! We've been Wyld Stallions!!!" and pretend to leave the stage ... That will work and you'll appear and feel like stars..

4 songs? Brilliant Just string them all together, leave no space for chatting between numbers, or plan it and rehearse it, sort your overall beginning out and your end and leave space for an encore (yes, play 3 songs and one encore ) Sorted
Plus, this fits in the cupboard under my staircase. The Epi is about 1" too deep.
Ha ha A perfectly good reason. When I spec-ed out the requirements for my Bergantino cabs to replace my Schroeder they had to fit in the same cupboard space under the stairs. It's a back/marriage saver ... Mark at Bass Direct was going "Listen to the sound, the clarity, the definition, the tight low end, the response" and I'm saying yeah but if they don't fit my cupboard all of that is irrelevant -
Youth's using one here with Killing Joke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPWQfAv_qBQ Fancy one myself now!
How do you know? I just get a still pic of their album cover .... Good tune though. "i dont think you can possibly play one unless your whole band wears spandex/catsuits and has hugely permed/backcombed hair" Yeah that was my plan ... a new dimention to our Barn Dances ... We already play the odd T Rex number now and then so I guess that fits Actually this was more my inspiration And AlbertKing .. more pipe 'n' slippers than pipe 'n' spandex .. How to still look cool in your seventies
They are pretty heavy - when I got mine, it was the heaviest bass I'd owned (since eclipsed by the Rickenbugger!) and it's very nice to play - the reason I bought it. Well, that's what I told myself at the time... The fact of the matter is that mine's been in its case since I moved last August - I found that using it with the setup & effects I use live, it's very, very prone to feedback, so I don't gig it. Because of the metal body construction, it's naturally very bright, the hollow body makes it highly resonant too - so add a little bit of overdrive (and I really don't use much!) and the damn thing squeals like a piggy. Basically I took mine to bits to see if there would be any way of deadening the resonance - to find it's already packed with foam. The scratchplate on mine tends to rattle too, so my intention was to put something under its edges to rectify that. It is a back-burner project at the moment - I'd love to make it giggable, simply because it's a stunning-looking bass, but these days I'm spoilt for choice, what with all my cheap JapCrap tat, so it's not currently a priority! J.
Ha ha.. that's what I'd call a gigable bass in that you hang it by the nut on a stand at the side of the stage as a "spare" hoping you never have to use it but enjoying its looks ..
At least one of the "EB3s" on the YouTube clips is a JB. I had a quick look at the 70s catalogue but the only Slade identified guitar in there is Dave Hill's "Super Yob".
I'll pay more attention in future
There's one in Music Ground on Denmark Street that's got a £799 price tag on it. These days it's being described as second hand, although I'm pretty certain it's the same one that's always been there and was once being sold (for the same price as new). Also the body has several casting marks on it (something that I saw on the only other Talbo in this country but not in any in Japan) which leads me to suspect that it's a second. I bought one from Ishibashi U-box earlier this year that is in pristine condition except for an almost invisible mark where there used to be a sticker on the body and that cost me just under £500 including shipping and customs. If the body is free of casting marks and the bass is generally in good condition then around £500 would be a sensible price. If you really want one your best bet is to wait for another at Ishibashi - there was a blue Talbo bass earlier this week but it's already gone.
What does it sound like? How heavy is it and is it nice to play?
Surely Jimmy Lea's V-Bass would have been a John Birch copy, that would have had most of the Gibson issues sorted out?
I can't find the youtube with the flying V now but I thought the one he was wearing for TOTP was a Gibson. He was playing all sorts including EB3 types and Rippers so I guess the guy liked Gibsons (or was sponsored). A John Birch would have been an option with the band's connection, I guess.
Gibson? What is the world coming too
Ha ha yah I know Gibson and Bass don't sit happily in the same sentance with us natural Fender players (ducks for cover) but you know what gas is like Maybe they do Wizzard Thumpers to fit .....

Ha ha thanks ... maybe for my long planned dub reggae project then? How weird would that look?
Welcome. Good news on the band front - beats working 100 hour weeks as a junior doctor
Hi Phil, nice to hear of you again. I'm so glad you are still playing. You know I used to groove away on the other side of the stage in the horn section just riding on your bass lines? Still planning to go doctoring then? A good idea to take a few years off to give the band thing a go first before the doctor dosh and commitment sucks you in.... Your successor in the Soul Destroyers is on this very Forum (Rich). Sounds like doing very well! 65 P bass eh? Enjoy that .... 100 hours a week? Sadly they are not allowed to do that any more It means Phil and his colleagues will be operating on you with less than 50% of the hands on training time of his predecessors but hey, that's European Elfin' Safety Law for you Welcome

Anyone owned played or seen a Gibson / Epiphone flying V bass in the flesh ?? Do they neck dive and roll away from one's body as the T'birds do? Any other points ? I've never played a Gibson bass that sounded nice to my ears, or "fitted", especially Thunderbirds ... but I have a very long held gas yearning for a Flying V ever since I saw Jim Lea in Slade playing one in the 1970s .... Just wondered ..
Thanks for the tip, OldGit! We're all in our 20s, and we're all pro musicians. This band is my top priority, though I also do other gigs. Like I said, we've got an album almost done. I'd like to get the band to the point where I'm earning my entire living off it. The most important thing for me is to make records I'm really proud of and play killer live shows. My current business plan is to stay independent and self-release our music, but I'm not against getting signed if it makes sense further down the road... If record companies are even signing new bands by then.
Cool. .. Good luck!

Hi It might help a bit if you state your band objectives, ages, etc Professional? full time? World tours or playing the Bell once a month? OG
