These look pretty comfy. Anyone have any experience with them? Overwater Bass Straps
Get the long one Short one is very short
Similarly if you compared a Bergantino HS210, Berg AE210, MAG 210, ABM 210, MB 210 front port, MB210 rear port, shiny Hartke 210, BFM Omni 210 and an Acme 210 they will all sound different.
You don't have to, Tom Bowlus did that very thing here on Talkbass
4x10 + 1x15 . It's the IBM of bass rigs.
Ha ha big, unweildy and lacking in finesse or flexibility? Surely not! (I survived 15 years selling IBM stuff as a 30 something) but yes, that is the traditional way, if you discount 1x18 cabs of yesteryear. Things have moved on , though, with Di and PA support, clever design like Bill's boxes and the boutique cabs, Neos' etc. So it's 2x12 for me in one or two cabs.
You know I really want to join in the hat parade. I have been known in the past to stand under bandanas (biker days), stetsons open air gig times (Ala Glover) Blues Bros stylee Fedora? have been known to host carribean nights in my Rasta hat and wig and proudly support London Irish Rugby in a green wig and Top Hat. However I have been informed on numerous occasions that since I passed the mid point of my earthly tenure, when I wear a suit /hat, I look like a man with a head transplant. Oh well. I will have to worship the hat from afar.Stagg on brave behatted ones.
If you want to get a head, get a hat ... Never did understand that
Heh, yea I stick with more well known songs to arrange for open mic nights and stuff, for this busking thing its mainly just to keep me entertained over summer so I'm going to find a balance between stuff I specifically like to play and stuff that the general public will like more, I'm not really too worried about money. Going to do 'In My Life' as well as the sped up piano solo should work great tapped on bass.
Oh sorry thought you were doing it to fund GAS, college or beer ... Just play what you feel then ... For stuff with vocals I've found the Who's Substitute and Steve Earl's Copperhead Road work well on bass and voice
-
Stick to good tunes with well known melodies. Trick tapping and sophisticated jazz solo stuff won't bring in the cash. Do the Beatles songbook and anything else the general public can sing along to ... happy peopel pay more so keep it happy and "up" Abide with me may limit your takings somewhat ... Take 5 might swing it

Jack Bruce interview (well a Steve Wright type of interveiw) Radio 2 this afternoon - or on play again, maybe
I think a jazz hat is the way to go. I've not got a hat friendly head though. Also, does the material the hat is made of affect your tone in any way? If I buy say, a felt fodera, would I also need to boost my upper mids to compensate?
I always do A bit more on the 2k does the trick. Less monitor though. I got my black Porkpie and the Homborg from an ebay shop. US based but cheap and good service. they are not soft hats - kind of like cardboard at first, but they mellow with abuse and cost a lot less than the posh hats Start here and dig back through thie stock. ebay item number: 120263863785 they do Blue bowlers too My posh hats come from here http://www.whiteley-hat.co.uk/frameset.asp
It'd look good in a house band in a stip bar/lap dancing establishment..... Anywhere else......?
Osmonds tribute band. They used Kustom padded amps One of those chrome holes is just visible in this shot I've actually heard one in a band back in the oldern days and it sounded magnificent. I'd have that in my extensive collection, if I had one.

Wow Good idea. I'm going to take blu-tak to every gig from now on

Traditional funk bass hat is the Marcus Miller Pork Pie. Here's the Whitely one - very nice quality UK made hat Upright is possibly more JazzHat territory That's me saxing in my Traditional Trilby (not the skinny brim Pete Doherty / Top Man / Matalan style thing the kid wear ) I'd suggest one of those .. The sound really does change when you wear a hat with a brim
yes please! Afraid I couldn't get down to collect though, I'm on crutches at the moment due to a "gardening" accident (very Spinal Tap), so can't drive. How do you want to handle payment etc?
Ok Oldgit wisdom here... (sorry JohnnyL) She'll need more than that to jam with her mates. Get a used 50watt (at least) bass combo. Used gear holds its value so you'll loose less if she bails. 50 watts 'cos a couple of kids on psudo- strats through 10 watt practice amps on 11 plus a beginner drummer make a huge amount of noise and a 15 watt bass amp just won't keep up so she'll be on your back for more funding as soon as she realises....
Hi He says that the serial number is actually on the body presumably at the neck fastening point, visible when you take the neck off. Is this usual? Could this mean a replacement neck has been put on and that the body itself is authentic? I'm doing my best to get a refund but he is getting right arsey. Cheers Martin
Just say no to this one. Even if it is what he claims, no one will believe you when you try to sell it. There's loads of real ones around. +1 on involving Ebay and Paypal. Reading the somewhat crap guides on ebay to how to avoid buying a Fender fake, someone mentions a 90 day period that Ebay give you so start with Ebay if he persists. This seller is unlikely to be bothered about negtive feedback as he's only sold a few xbox games and this bass so he'll just make a new id...
-
+1 : Cancel the sale and spend your £200 here. You'll get a much better bass for your money. I've had an exchange with the seller. I think he genuinely believes it's a real Fender. However he is well aware of the problems and was before the auction ended. He also told me the serial number he found after taking the neck off (see below for where the s/n should be) This is either an extremely rare one-off Fender that should be in a museum or it's a clumsy attempt (by someone) at duping a beginner. My money is on the latter. Either way it should remain his problem and not yours, Spychal, especially as he claims he bought it from a Fender dealer and had it checked by a local music shop who confirmed it pukka ..... A Made in Mexico headstock looks like this. The s/n is right there and you can clearly see the differences between that and the Ebay one. Real one: Ebay one:
Now that is what the Stagg was made for. I bow to your coolness OG. Oh and large respect for the hat.
I raise my hat to you sir. It's a 2008 Homburg. Not as good as a traditional Trilby: on stage as the Homburg's curled up sides don't reflect the sound into your ears as the Trilby does and the front doesn't do as well at keeping the stage lights out of your eyes .. Different though
Plus the one there .. I have one for each bass. The super wide "padded leather" one. £20 from my local high street music shop. The Comfort Strapp and Noprenes bounce too much for me there's the Dare strap too - over two shoulders http://www.darestrap.com/ Mind you, it makes you glow in the dark and stare like a Broadmoor detainee Geiller is that what you do with your two straps?

I use leathergraft straps - the 4" wide, delux leather ones. Nothing else out there feels as good to me so I got 5 of them.
I remember the days when I used to stare longingly at the Marlin guitars in Kays catalogue... horrible plywood things, not much better than a Woolworths Top 20!
Actually the orginal Welsh made Marlins were solid wood and pretty fine instruments. There's a Marlin PJ turns up at our jam session and it's a great bass to play (for a P copy that is)
I can see you have the hat wearing off to a tee OG surely it's plain sailing from there.
Yeah I've had a few lessons on hats and watched this guy on Youtube so I think I've got the technique almost right

He says "Someone else told me it was a copy with a sticker but the shop said it was a real Fender "
-
First outing ... new EUB, new cabs, new hat ... what a steep learning curve:)
-
Oh well, I've done my bit for society and pointed out that it's probably a Squier afinity with a Fender sticker, and the wrong Fender sticker at that ) If he still sells it I guess he deserves all he gets ...
Its the local guitar shop that worries me
ha ha yeah For an ebay seller with Fender in his id he seems to be a little lacking in knowledge about his own bass ...
