They should probably think about removing the listing, then - people are still bidding on it. I'm already looking forward to seeing it come back, with a set of 3 quid strings and a £400 price tag... J.
Hey! Don't tell everyone my Cunning Plan!
Hi, Thanks for discussing us! I am the publisher of Bass Gear. I'm also an 'anglophile' as well having worked in the high-end audio industry for many years and found my soul mates in British makers such as Linn and Naim. On the bass side, I have several Sei basses...so I am envious of the great gear that comes from the UK. My favorite bass magazine is the UK Bass Guitar magazine. We will endeavor to make our publication a worthy adjunct to Bass Guitar. I'll address the circulation questions and I'll have Tom chime in to answer the others. We are definitely well on our way to finishing the first issue. It will be out in April. Then we are on for every 2 months, possibly increasing in year 2. Subscriptions, advertising and the business side are going very well - we're already 'in the black'. We are not owned by a big publishing company so we can do as we please. Tom and I are the managing directors. Sorry for any hang-ups on subscribing. The phone number request was put in just in case a subscriber's e-mail didn't work or was changed - it would be a way for us to contact you and get the right information. Your individual sign-up info will NEVER be sold or given to anyone other than Tom, myself and my programmer (who is very honest - he's had my banking information for many years!) However, you can put in a '999...' phone number if you choose. Just check back with us in May if you haven't gotten your first issue! Other requested info should be able to be bypassed. If there's any problem, contact me at and I'll fix it. Thanks very much for your interest!
So How is this going?

Now there's an idea ... include a picture of your coutry's leader's wife in the buff with every sale .... I think French deals may have the edge there .. This is my country's leader's wife:
Care to upload the video on youtube or something? I'd love to see how it sounded! Thanks.
Er no thanks. No sound check, the lighting's terrible, my shirt is way too loud Oh and we don't look our best and there's a big fat music stand with a different band's advertising on it in just the wrong place It sounded rather nice though. As has been noted before, they sound more like a fretless bass guitar than a wooden double bass but loads of mwaaah and slides sound stuff:) If someone knows how to take the sound off an AVI to edit it and make an MP3 I may do it ... Rather wait for better conditions though ..

Last night was Mrs OldGit's 50th birthday party and we did a turn ... me on Kylie the Skinny Upright Bass, her on the flute. We played a very short verion of Take 5 and it was a huge hit. Scrappy video of the event shows the bass sounds great and certainly looks the part. More than that loads of people made a point of saying how nice it was and, amazingly, how sexy it is. That does seem to be a common reaction from women .. I doubt if I need to tell upright bass players that but it's a revelation to me .. though I do fancy Paul Gardiner so maybe that's part of it It's certainly one of those instruments that gets attention from civilians as well as other musicians. It sounded fine through my normal EBG setup but we were just playing very quietly. I'll have to research some more to see if it works as well in a band situation. A very promising first public airing, I'd say.

Mrs OldGit's' 50th birthday party .. a year in the planning so only a fair amount of panic during the last week as I was ill on Thursday ... (I was wondering why I was getting more odd looks than normal last night .. found out after a while that I'd blown blood vessles in both eyes and looked rather sinister ...) The acoustic barn dance band I dep with (as seen on Gavin and Stacey!) was the main band for the night with my band doing two dances after the break, and myself and my wife doing a solo spot for one number only in the middle. A gear share nightmare but excellent dancing and fun. So nice to get to dance with my wife rather than play whilst everyone else dances ... The other band's bass player liked my Shuker P5 and, amazingly, a non musician neighbour stopped me to day in the park to say how nice it looked and sounded ... That's a first from a civilian But the star of the show, other than my wife of course, was the Stagg electric upright. Mrs OldGit and I played Take 5 on upright and flute and it went down a storm with loads of civilians saying how nice the sound of the bass was and how sexy it looks (women, mostly) . .. I think it's a keeper
For example, I can plug into the bass amp and then touch the shielding of the freeview box and get a 'tingle'.
You gig with a freeview box? Wow things are different in the Big City +1 RCD Another good reason to go wireless... -
Randall RB2000 aincient bi-amp head - any knowledge
Mr Randall used to work at Fender under Leo Fender. That's all I know. And you probably knew that already.
Yeah Ta Funk The guys on Talkbass knew a bit. Randall have now sent me a manual too. It's a neat Bi-amp with 275@8ohms or 375@4ohms watts on the bass side and 125/175 on the treble .. and you can bridge the two sides too Plenty of EQ that can be switched in and out on a foot switch and a built in compressor.. Weighs more than my current whole rig (including the car, I think) but kinda fun potential OG -

I seem to have accidentally bought a Randal RB2000 375/125 watt Bi-amped bass head ... I think it weighs 3 tons so a minor blip in the move to lighter gear ... I saw it on eBay and .. I am sure you know how it goes .. too much late night coffee, I haven't got it yet but does anyone know anything beyond the talkbass and harmony central stuff? Scant info there either beyond "if it was stolen I'd scour the net for another" which is reassuring. Randall these days seems to aim at the death metal market ... Randall have kindly sent me PDF's of the schematics (thanks!) but no manual. A shop selling one in the US says this "RB 2000 Biamp Bass Head - Rack-mount (three spaces). 375 watts into the bottom, 135 watts into the top. Built-in crossover. It plays loud and clear!" That's about it from my google searches ... Any other info? Thanks OG
Sorted then It adds lightness to Only adds lightness if you don't go and fill it with bloody batteries...
Hummmmmm now there's thought.. Does the routing and cable tunnels take enough wood out to balance the weight of the battery, battery box and cables that go in ... Depends on the body wood I guess .. Mahogany? no problem.. B'asswood? humm probably not...
'2 years' I've recently retired my boots. I think they're older than me. And I could always have them re-soled. Converse at a wedding sounds awesome. I hope it's been ok'd, though. Women can get funny about this sort of thing, I understand.
Rule number one at weddings: For brides 'n' grooms, best men, caterers, flower arrangers, string quartets and, of course, function bands: Please the Muthu's That's the Bride and Groom's mothers - all 4 of them if necessary. If you do that you win. If not, you loose. It's simple fact of (wedding day) life.
Some more pics from Jon. The body has finally been stained and it's come out better than I ever dreamed it would!! I think this is going to look great with the rosewood fingerboard and pearloid block markers. I'm now going with EMG's but still with spilt pots (Vol/Vol and Tone/Tone) for the P and J Pickups. Unfortunately, he's going to have to get these built especially, but it's worth the wait as I really want the P bass to have the classic 2 knob look rather than 3. Jon reckons it will be completed in the next few weeks, but I'm not so sure myself....
That looks great ... Very nice piece of wood there .. That 8 mile deep gloss he does is just fab ... -

I saw a PJ precision recently where the J pup was the same colour as the bass body .. It looked a bit more "right" than a normal black bridge pup .. As you are going to a lot of trouble to getyhe trad two knob look how about getting a matched blue wood cover for your bridge pickup? Just an idea OG
