1. Just wondered if there are any regularly used single cuts in rock and roll? I don't think I've ever seen one on the telly and it does seem to be a Jazz /ERB / soloist body style ..
 2. Cracking! Single cuts are growing on me too You left out the neck LEDs ...
 3. Dunno if you are using ABM bridge bits but it looks like they are back in business again http://buildingtheergonomicguitar.com/2008...n-business.html

Where's that then? Edit OK I've found it Don't you just love mystery meat navigation? ... And how do I stop it looking squashed ? Is there a widescreen option?
 5. I'm rather taken with my new Ibanez Weeping Demon wah ..
 6.
Hmm, he has a weird way of wearing that bass, looks cool though. The steinberger i tried was very light. If you can get hold of a full graphite one... well... that probably won't weigh a ton but good luck to you!!
What about a Synapse? Are they any good? In the used department the Fender Precision Lyte is a light bass and popular. I liked mine. Not what I would call a Reggae bass though.. a bit thin and active sounding.
 7. Thursday - down the jam night to support my mates who where the pre-jammin' band that night. I got called up to play with a guy playing acoustic and singing. My friend John was drumming and up already and they'd started before I slung on the house band's Jazz and joined in. The guy was playing a South African township swing tune in Afrikaans .. fortunately it was one of those 1-4-1-5 tunes as borrowed by Paul Simon and Malcolm McClaren so no problems there.. Then I Need You by the Beatles .. slightly more tricky but it's there buried deep in the OldGit memory banks .. Just a case of accessing it .. Got there eventually. So that was it from me .. It wasn't until I got home later that I realised I'd played it all without a plectrum ... this is a significant thing for me. Using a pick is my comfort zone and finger-style on a strange bass on strange tunes is usually way outside of it ... Things must be getting better OG
 8.
a steinberger If you don't mind how it looks that is.
Reggae on a Stenberger eh? Oh yesssssssss. I think that will look right .. Mind you, if you can get a real steinberger for that money, pick me one up too will you?
 9.
As for what I paid... it was in the region of second-hand Squier money (nothing wrong with those by the way!).
I'll be very happy to exchange your G bass for a nice new Squier affinity Jazz if you like
 10.
There's a double battery box route on there already and it's a full size control cavity too so loads of room for adding a circuit at a later date.
Sorted then It adds lightness to
 11.
After a bit of indecision I'm going without a preamp on this bass. In the last few months I've gone passive on all the basses I own so I'm keeping this one simple too. Just VVT for me, although if this changes I'd think yours would be number 1 on the list Alan!
If it's not too late, get jon to add a double battery box and enough space in the cavity routing for an active system .. Then if you add one later you've had all the painful bits done and you can just solder it in .. My Shuker P5 has that, even though it's currently passive and likely to stay that way.
 12. My local ones have "the guitar bloke" who comes around regularly to make sure they have realistic prices on the guitars and basses .. I missed a gu1t@r bargain 'cos he turned up whilst I was off looking it up on tinterwebnet.. I went back and the price had gone up by £50 ...
 13.
Starting to look that way (30 weeks!). Here's pics from a few weeks back, although I've just received them. The top has been stained since these and Jon's made the ramp (wenge topped with quilted maple). Looking forward to getting my hands on this beastie!
Gorgeous!
 14.
The head looks a bit Fender-ish (but that could just be the colour of the grill cloth). Steve and Alex, I will give the Fender 400PS a full review once I've had a chance to give it a proper work-out.
You mean mine? It was definitely a Fender Bassman .. I used it for about 4 years I think as I suffered a lot less gas as a young bass player, back before Basschat
 15.
You fly mofo!
Why Paul, you've come over all Shaft! The bassman head had a silver control panel, jewel power lamp thing, two channels I think, er it was a very long time ago
 16.
PBass through a Hiwatt 100w and a 69 Marshall 4x12. Oh, yes! Rickenbacker through a Trace V6 and the matching (4x12-size) 2x15. Chug.
How about a Ric through a late 60's Bassman 80 watt? head (on the chair) and 2x15 "diagonal" cab? (in the early 70's) or a P bass through the same head and cab? Anyone identify the model of head and cab from that? Or the very slim bloke playing them? I'd love to get one again (and that waistline) .........
 17. Still looking for the ellusive 8ohm 1212L or two
 18.
Crack Convertors are (were?) the biggest bunch of rip off merchants I have ever come across (back in the days when I had little cash, I flogged all my expensive belongings to keep a car on the road...distinctly remember selling £1200 worth of camera gear for £250 )
It's a pawn shop and as such it works on the basis that you REALLY need the money and will accept whatever stupid price they offer you. You agree the price with them ... you don't have to accept what they offer ... and ..Had you popped back a few days later with £300 you could have had the lot back Mind you £1200 of 35 mm camera stuff is probably only worth £150 now ......

 20.
Toccata in Dm - Sky (with Herbie Flowers, I loved the drums and the bass on that whole Sky II album long before I even started learning a musical instrument. One day its going to be cool to like them again)
It never stopped! Herby is one of the coolest guys on the planet - even playing a tuba wrapped in (mains) fairy lights...

 22.
or maybe i am just an arsehole after all
Nah just have a chat. I'm afraid I made the assumption from your typing style - lack of capitals and punctuation - that you were some 16 year old being required to flip burgers on a gig night and just finding out about life in a band ... but then I read your profile. So you have a situation that needs sorting. You just have to deal with it. Some bands just don't fit. If they had a problem getting a bass player maybe there's a shortage in your area and you can move on, or maybe they are difficult people. Anyway you can only resolve this by talking to each other and agreeing how you will handle this sort of situation when it re-occurs. If you leave it you will build resentment and that does no band any good.
 23.
The starless and bible black? Does the Hercules grab-a-[s]granny[/s]neck system actually do anything significant to the Stagg? I was just thinking that you could get a plain ordinary gooseneck stand for a fiver and return the Hercules to its former labours. Of course, if this results in the Stagg plummeting rather than standing, it would not be a good idea and you would be sad.
h aha yeah That's the colour - or lack of ... No the Herkie grabber doesen't grab the Stagg and yell "Why - you - little - ..." as it does to a EBG ... The thing with the Hercules is that the neck grab thing is a high up so the stag's spike is off the ground thus there's no pivot point and hence no sideways push.. that seems to be the key.
 24. My mate was third in the queue for a Smith 6 string bass at his local CC .. £120 with it's case ... He sent me a pic and said "whats this? Is it worth £120?" I recommended he rush down the next day but he was just too late ...
 25.
i work normal hours monday to friday, but sometimes we have work that has an urgent deadline and weekend work has to be done and booking a day off at the weekend cant be done due to the short notice nature of the work. and the band dont pay the bills. like i say its never happened before and i only get called in rarely it just so happens this one clashes and i aint chosen to do it. was just looking for a bit of support/advice which i guess i aint gonna get. i'll get my coat.
Oh sorry .. There there. Look, mate it happes to us all. We all get stuffed by the work that pays the bills and life often gets in the way of music. Sadly bosses think it's less important to play a gig than hit a deadline .. That's kinda how it is. What I'm suggesting IS support, it's a strategy to get you around the problem whilst keeping your place in the band .. If you do it then you can get the other people with dodgy jobs to do it too ... Result is a more cohesive band with a better chance of playing more gigs ...
