2.
One of the other reasons I went Violin burst is that in mettalic black it bears an uncanny resembleance to the 50 calibre sniper rifle in call of duty 4. Might raise a few eyebrows in some of the less than salubrious areas I have been known to frequent
right Looks more like a fishing rod in its bag
 3.
OK Ive bitten the bullet and my Metallic Black Stagg has miraculously become a Violin Burst and will arrive tomorrow. Huzzah
Yeah I heard there's been a rush on metalic black from all the death metal jazz folk band players looking to add a certain something to their sound ....
 4.
Thats great, it's better up close anyway. Although, I have a couple of jobs in Cardiff (1 gig, 1 session) over the coming weeks.
hey cool Tell me when and where and I'll come and heckle
 5.
OG, it says 'UPTON BASS String Instrument Co MYSTIC CT' Perhaps not quite as significant as you first thought but enough to bring all the Julia Roberts fanciers out in a sweat maybe.
Ah yes That was it ... I've been to Mystic but, sadly, not to the bass place. Had a Pizza though Thanks..
 6.
PS OG I'll be happy to give you a few pointers on holding a (French) bow if you get one. I don't do German.
Is there a post or wiki about the difference? ah found this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bass#German_bow
 7.
I'd be surprised if you were able to get a decent tone out of an EUB with a bow (I would be happy to be proved wrong) but so much arco tone is related to the vibration being transferred into and amplified by the wood that to amplify the strings beng scratched alone is a fairly frightening prospect to me. Anyone had a good experience with bow and EUB? Jake PS OG I'll be happy to give you a few pointers on holding a (French) bow if you get one. I don't do German.
Thanks Jake .. I think I'll be Ok should teh need ever arrive... I've asked the local guy for a date for a first lesson he does bowing as well (and doghouse slap) so I think I should be able to discover my limits with him So .. It's black not metallic black. There's larger pics on here of each colour http://www.playrecord.net/bowed-instrument...d.p1027051.html Scroll down the page top switch to the other colours I can see exactly what everyone else has mentioned about how hard on the left hand and arm it is when you have no idea about technique .. Mrs OG says she likes it though so I'm way ahead there

I'm a little confused of the colour options. --- Honey: http://www.musik-schmidt.de/osc-schmidt/ca...ey-p-25288.html --- Black: http://www.musik-schmidt.de/osc-schmidt/ca...ck-p-22386.html
Mine's here from Zings. It's a black one. http://www.zingsmusic.com/product_info.php?products_id=5176 It's black like a Piano is black - that kind of finish. There's a metalic black too..
 9.
If you get a bow, you've gotta learn the Elephant from Saint-Saëns' Carnival Of The Animals
With James Bond, Phil Mitchell and the silly faces? 10. It's arrived ... Too busy to play with it right now but that's fast service..
 11.
That looks pretty cool, be sure to have a go with a bow man, i tried that on my musicman once, lots of fun
Where do I get a bow? What do I look for - bear in mind that this is a budget purchase - I know bows can cost more than Shukers Also is there a good bit of youtube on how to bow? I did play doghouse for a few months in college (approx 300 years ago) but bowing was optional so I never bothered or learned how ...
 12.
I'm not too worried about the time to be honest - as you say a lot less than most luthiers, and well worth the wait. Not sure about LEDs - my eye-sight isn't what it used to be, so they may come in useful on a dark stage in Mansfield on a Friday night!
Ha ha works for me
 13.
BTW what braided sheath did you use?
Blige Burp, that's a tad personal
 14.
...you know the song Well I succumbed to another moment of impulse whilst at work on a weekend ( erm..looking at the internet during lunch of course! ) and bought myself a CIJ 70's reissue precision bass. I just can't bring myself to take my '74 precision to regular rehearsals and gigs so I found a bass that looked pretty much exactly the same and weighed in at a decidedly light 8lbs! Although this sort of goes against my principles, but I'm testing out a moment of being sensible. I'm very impressed with the bass so far, great quality and and lovely to play - the only things I can't seem to decide are if I should keep the TI flats on it or pop some rounds on and whether or not to try a pickup change. Decisions decisions eh. I guess sticking to tradition I ought to name it... hmm...some sort of Japanese womens name - any thoughts?
Wow Fab looking bass. Where did you get it? Names; How about Yoshie or Akiko after the bass players in the 5678's ?
 15.
So how long does a Shuker generally take to complete? I hear a lot of people complaining about the wait!
Standard disclaimer: Other luthiers are available ----------------------------------------------------------- Lot less than most luthiers Jon always used to underestimate the build time. If you add about 6 weeks to his estimate you'll not be too dissapointed ... That sounds tasty Those delanos look fantastic Are you getting LEDs?
 16.
Folks, I'm putting together leads for my guitarists and my pedal boards..... I'll end up doing it (I dont mind really... ) However have we got any good sources of gear on here other than the obvious... I will need good quality stuff like these two--- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=012 and, http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...&doy=search So come guys what you got? Bob.
Tried OBBM?
 17.
Happy for you OG, gutted for me. Ordered the same one on 20th Mar and have since been informed that it will now be mid April before delivery. Ah well the sun shines on the righteous. Enjoy.
From the same people? That's strange? Different colour? Can you cancel and re-order ? The price is good ..
 18. My SX Precision is sorted .. I'm really getting to like it now I've re-soldered everything and it keeps going I'd say the most significant change to the bass overall was swapping the bridge. The Fender vintage re-issue one was OK but the Gotoh 203 makes everything feel a lot more solid and connected and the sustain is great (especially when unplugged - always the acid test). I had to use the shorter height adjustment screws to avoid shredding my hand whilst playing so I'd recommend that. The ARTEC SE3A preamp is subtle and works well with the passive P pup just adding a good amount of bass and treble and cutting both well. There's none of that "super glassy" feel that cheap preamps's usually have and it doesn't boost way past useful. The stacked knob works OK and looks pretty stock. So there you go. That's sorted...
 19.
I forgot to mention to you that my Clark Kent's job is making coffee in COSTA Coffee
Which One? I may save you the journey up here for the plate .. of course your soldering lesson will have to be here
 20. They just emailed me: It's actually in the post and "should be with me tomorrow" I guess they have stock then Shame I have a really busy week ..
 21.
OldGit When you get it, get an old tubular guitar or mic stand, cut it off 12" above the floor and stick the Stagg's spike in it. Makes a good stable stand, especially if you double with it on stage. Enjoy!
Hey thanks BA55ACE I was just about to PM you to ask about that stand you made for yours. I have several old stand things around (and a cash converter close by) so I'll keep an eye open for one. Now tell me , what is printed on the, er, heel? of your double? I remember seeing it at the bash and it being significant but I can't remember what it was .. Is it Poughkeepsie, New York?
 22.
Welcome to the EUB gang mate.
Cheers, Let's hope it's a long relationship
 23.
Well it doesn't say it's not in stock on the website... Have you had a confirmation of your order and a projected delivery date yet?
Several confirmation emails and one that said "if there's a delay the expected delivery date will be noted below" but no date noted below so I'm hoping ... I have a deadline as there's a couple of gigs coming up over the next few months with a band where it will fit (visually and sonically) and the playing is not too arduous As they record every gig I also have several of their live recordings (with me on bass) to learn from too ...
 24.
Now you see that's the future, and I'm here in my little lab trying to devise a plan that means artists control their output entirely and share audiences based on similarity via networking sites, I'll get back to you when i've got the corporate finance to launch it
Well if I was out there trying to break an originals band I'd be so grateful for all the independent stuff that's there. Back in the olden days you had no choice but to sell your soul to the devil .. I like Chris Rea's story - 10 or so albums that he disliked but did for the corporation and then he started making rekkerds for himself - and they still sold well Mind you he had to nearly die before deciding to do it his way...
 25.
I shall be round to yours for a play the moment it arrives
Ha ha May be a while from what BigRedX says ....
