2.
If you shop around, you can get the Deluxe Squier jazz active V for only a little over £200. Like this one!
Yeah that came up in post #6 Nice bass and that's an even better price.
 3.
The stand is just used for parking unless your about 8ft tall :)
Nah I'd fit your Elise nicely ... So how does the stand work? looks like teh spike may go inside the upright tube? How is the bass.. I'm very tempted, just to add to my feelings of inadequacy generated by Sunday...
 4.
With regards to modding the bridge, would much drilling be required, or would it be a simple case of dropping a new one in?
Some drop straight in (Gotoh 201 or 203) maybe with couple of extra screws. Some of the Badass ones drop straight in too. Just look for "fender replacement" in teh description.
 5.
didn't even know the Only Ones wwere still alive!!!
jury's still out
 6.
Here are some photos. The chrome stand is something I cobbled together out of a guitar stand; it works very well.
Hi Roger Your acoustic looked very nice on Sunday meanwhile I'm looking at gettng one of these (and the lesons to get my muscles converted) How does that stand work? Is it just for parking or did you play it on the stand like the NS ones? Cheers Si
 7.
Yep, sorry! You are 100% spot on.. I checked the BBC listings and each Friday night the show is broadcast again but as an extended version.. So we get more performances by each artist, which is brilliant!
Phew! Thought we were being shortchanged again but it's actually better! Jool kept saying Estelle was number one - is that in the charts? If so it's refreshing that someone topping the charts can actually perform live ...
 8. Here you go http://starsunguitars.com/Starsun%20electr...ss%20RSB-11.htm A whole bass with performing LEDs for less than half the price of having Martin Sims trained woodworms fit them to your current bass.. I've got Fretlord glodots on the side of my SX. £10 and they work OK. http://www.fretlord.com/ Not as good as the LED sidemarkers on my Shukers I got them mostly becasue the side marker dots on the SX are tiny and my old eyes can't see them easily (in daylight, let alone on a dark stage) You stick them on and charge them up with a special little UV torch and they glow for a bit. They are Ok and, like the rest of my SX project, very good value for money compared with the alternatives.
 9.
Just took delivery of my Ashdown head from Jay249. Delivered using Parcelfarce. Seems to be okay 'cos it was well packed but the delivery guy was standard Parcelforce delivery guy. Also I can't try it out cos I dont have a cab yet. If anyone's not seen it, this is Lee Evans talking about Parcelforce, and it's spot on. Apologies if you don't like him Parcelforce
Woah! 11.
As far as I'm aware, this was just a preview for the new series which begins on Friday - think it will be repeated then P
Hope so Seems like half or Basschat rehearses on Tuesdays
 12.
Looked, tried, deliberated, bought. One new Yamaha BB414 in Vintage White is running into my open arms as we speak. I just wish that I did'nt try it through a Mark Bass head though,as it has given me bad GAS. Oh,the price?£199.Bargain.
£199 new? Excellent!
 13. Both a 1x15 and a 4x10 will have punch and cut. A 1x15 has a certain sound though .. You should have no problem gettinga used 300 watter for that budget. You will need 300 watts with an enthusiastic drummer though. Anything smaller will struggle a bit and it's better to find you have too much than not enough.
 14. Couldn't count them live - it was just a blur Someone had the oldest/dirtiest functional P bass in captivity and The drummer and singer in the Only Ones looked like they'd been spending a few years dead for tax reasons during their time off from the band ...
 15. "Bass player from the Isle of Wight" now that phrase rings a bell for some reason Welcome Tim
 16.
Yes you can! In fact the first time I played it live, some bloke said it looked like I was playing a light sabre! It is a fretless with a fingerboard made from a mixture of brass and zinc. It also had 24carat gold plated strings to match - they are actually very good on the bass, though they don't suit the fretted at all. The benefit of the fingerboard is that you can use roundwounds with no problems. It also has one of John East's U-retro Deluxe pre-amps in it which makes it very flexible, even for slap as I am sure you saw on Sunday! Cheers ped
Oooooooh!
 17.
which reminds me... apparently you had a bottle of fentimans. where was my look in? x
Eats my cake and wants my Ginger beer too! Next time I get so much stick for not drinking that I tend to keep it as low profile as possible Poptart nearly keeled over when i asked or a coffee when he offered me a drink
 18. What was that one with the gold fingerboard? Can you flash the audience with it like Lynotts scratch plate?
 19.
Which luthiers will do 'lower-priced' (he says choosing the words very carefully) custom basses? For those of us who don't have a fortune to spend. Won't be getting one just yet, though - I have a house to decorate for starters. Then an acoustic to get repaired. As an engineer by trade and compulsion (and nearly 20 years in industry as a fitter/machinist/toolmaker before constant redundancy got the better of me, and my dad was a cabinet maker) I love and appreciate craftsmanship in all its forms. Some of the custom basses on Sunday were stunning, and sounded great. But they'd be wasted on me at present. I'd love to have one, but have other priorities. Maybe one day.... when the kids leave home perhaps.
Preface: Other luthiers are available! So rather than flame me for mentioning Shuker again just chip in with your own recommendations. I just don't know about the others OK? ----------------------- Jon Shuker's standard (custom) jazz basses can come in under £1100 depending on options. This stock J bass is £950 - you can ask for a change of pup and electronics on his stock stuff. http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/stock.htm
 20.
One feature I didn't find in the manual was one that I miss from an old Zoom 505II (guitar) pedal I had a few years ago. You could use the pedals to move up through the patches, but instead of switching straight away, you could get the patch ready, then just tap both switches and the new patch is used. I really wish this was a feature on the b2, but I doubt I'd use it much other than having my one "tone" and maybe a couple of slightly different ones.
TB? Sure no problem. Lots of good stuff on there. That's the big problem for stage stuff for me. You may be able to do something with a separate foot switch.. I don't know .. Live I use 9 patches in a normal show and some changes are several patch positions apart from each other and you have to bash the foot switch loads of times to move between the two, with each patch being audible. Compared with just switching one effect off an another on it's a serious drag. I would not be surprised to see the Zoom B3.1u (or whatever) having this feature as many people have commented on it ... Do a search for B2.1u, there's a bunch of threads and knowledgeable users on here. There's a ikkle drummer in there too
 21.
Haha, I wouldn't fit a 'plate to the deluxe, it looks so much nicer without, but it's part of my reason I'm still looking at the Affinity as I love a black Jazz with a white 'plate. I'm also thinking of getting myself a Zoom b2.1u at some point too.
Perfectly valid reason I've got a Zoom B2.1u too .. I'm moving away from it to seperates as there are some problems for me with using the zoom on stage but in the bedroom it's great - headphone out and USB connecton to the recording s/w it comes with and all for 70 quid ... I'll be hanging on to mine for all the stuff it can do that I don't use on stage ..
 22.
It's nice and clear, but there's an error. Triads cannot be 'half-diminished'. A triad based on a root, minor third and diminished fifth (r, b3, b5) is simply a 'diminished triad'. It only becomes half-diminished as a tetrad, when you add a minor seventh (r, b3, b5, b7). A diminished tetrad has a diminished seventh on top (r, b3, b5, bb7).
Thanks I didn't write it, just "reprinted with(out) permission" That site has loads of good resources ..
 23.
Everything comes in useful if you keep it long enough. Throw something out and you'll need it the very next week.
Yeah we should all have a staging area. We could try to fool fate into thinking we've throw it away so that the time when we finally need it comes around fatser. Then we just have to pop down to the staging area to get it back ...
 24.
I've got a big cardboard box labeled 'Just add Bike' in marker pen; I packed it up about 5 years ago when I sold my last motorcycle. In it are:- helmet, gloves, boots, leather trousers, leather jacket. One day I'll do what it says on the box, and I can't sell the stuff
I bet the trousers and jacket shrink in that bag Mine did ...
 25.
So why buy a Ferrari when you can't legally use it's full potential in the UK on the roads?
Well .. a custom bass is related to the Ferrari except that when you play one the general populace don't notice whereas they will think you are a chavvy flash lottery winner [rhymes with] banker when you drive by in a Ferrari - or the ones aged mre than 13 anyway ... There are many reasons to buy a custom bass, not least of which is that some don't cost a lot more than a stock Stingray ... The reasons are largely selfish and only appreciated by a very, very small % of the population, most of whom were in that room on Sunday. As for sound, well I've seen people get great sounds out of crack converter reject gear and others make an awful racket with a signature bass and reams of top notch amps cabs and effects ..
