sorry but i disagree. and i'm not the only one with an unpredictable job in our band. if something comes up then something comes up its not like its a form of income (and i aint seen a penny out of it in 1.5years) and its not like we gig alot. we've had practices canceled as we are setting up cos one of them has had to go work and thats a booked hall. if the place you were playing cancelled then that would be accepted, not liked but accepted and in a year and a half this is the first time anything like this has happened gig wise from our side though we have had a few stopped at the last minute by the venue.
Who said anything about money? So why are they pi5534 off at you? Venues can cancel you 'cos you need them more than they need you. Thats a fact of gigging life. if you bail more than once you will probably never ever get a gig there again, unless you dep in a band. and even then your band will get a reputation for unreliability. Same with you. If you want to keep your place in the band then you need a strategy to deal with your unpredictable job. or your band are being unreasonable. Tak ethe initiative, call a meetinga and get an understanding and agreement in place to cover this sort of thing. As I said, get a mate up to speed to dep for you at the last minute so you don't screw your band again.
At least I'm not the one getting married! A friend of mine was at a wedding last year where the groom was wearing converse with his suit. Actually now I think about it, the friend of my dad mentioned earlier in the thread was best man at his friends wedding, spent about £500 on a new tweed suit, and £20 on a pair of new blue Converse Also, in that (Mastercard?) advert where the naked man's running and uses his credit card to pick up new clothes and get cleaned up on his way to his wedding, he's wearing Converse too. Seems to be a popular idea
Suit and Converse? Time(lord)less fashion:
supposed to be playing this Saturday, but I couldn't do the practice on Monday cos I had to work and I have been told I have to work Saturday too, so gig cancelled. I'm gutted but I'm pi$$ed off 'cos now the band are on my back, yeah, cheers guys for thinking I don't give a sh*t any more and can't be arsed. Any suggestions on how to deal with this kind of thing if you've had it too?
Sure, sort yourself out. It's your problem and they are perfectly justified in getting the hump at this. If you have committed to play a gig you have to make sure your life works around it. Otherwise don't commit to it. If your job is so unpredictable then don't play in a gigging band 'til you have a more stable job or get a dep up to speed to be able to jump in at short notice. That's it.
Great pics - and a nice bit of improvisation with the stand. This is the plain black finish rather than metallic black?
Yeah it's the plain black, sloe black, slow, black, crow black fishing boat-bobbing black ...
Oh yes. Short sleeve shirts, 3 quid a pop -- perfect for the office. Buggered if I'm going to spend real money on something I only ever wear to the treadmill. +1 for charity shops.
And stage suits that never get cleaned
it was immense we just won our heat of battle of the bands cant believe it really. my pedal board died and i had no bass for half the first song and i whacked my bass off the roof but it dosnt matter now.
Hey Well done! So what's the secret? 100 lost tourists re-directed into the club as your fanbase? Bus load of kids from the local 6th form college? bribery?
As a suggestion there's a Trace Twin Valve combo on ebay right now which is a reasonable price but its only 100w.
Lovely little amp. I had a head in natural alloy. But, it's a bit quiet set clean. Overdrives nicely though More like 80 (valve) watts and the pre has some solid state and some valve. Too tech for me but it's aparently not strictly speaking "all valve" It has big brothers - the Quadravalve and the Hexavalve. You get about 80 watts per pair of EL34's or KT88's IIRC. They are ancesters of the Trace V series. Not sure how they compare and the biggies are rar as hen's teeth. A guy on talkbass got a Quadvalve head for £40 a few years ago .. I guess that was a boot sale job
nice, but they lose points for "Allegro"- the image of a poorly-built BL hatchback with a square steering wheel conjured up somewhat reduces the muso cool...
Ha ha yeah. One thing the Allegro wasn't was "allegro" "andante", maybe ... Allegro: Lively, brisk, rapid Andante: Moderately slow, a walking speed
^^ My first pair lasted a couple of years (everyday wear), but I've found now I'm going through a pair every 9 months or so. In fact, I got a new pair at Christmas, I'm starting to wear through the inner sole (the canvas bit) already after 4 months :S
Yeah, I weigh a lot more now too I have two pairs in different colours for different types of gigs/bands but my poor ol' feet are damaged now and a bout of plantar fasciitis last year means I have to wear corrective/protective inserts now so a 3 hour set in the Rock n Roll Daps hurts too much .. Mine will therefore last many years ...

Ok I think I've sorted the stand problem ... It hangs on my Hercules Autograbber stand .. This seems to remove the problem of the top heaviness by detaching the spike from the floor .. I'll take a pic or two when I get a minute .. My bass guitars are now standless though Still these stands are not that costly and it's my birthday on Monday
Yep, I've been wearing them for years now, but then Nike took them over, they became more popular and as the prices went up, the quality dropped rapidly. They're nowhere near as durable as they used to be even 4 years ago. Sad times.
"Tell that to kids these days and they don't believe you ...."

Ah the famous rock and roll daps? Doesn't everyone wear them on stage? "From the Clash to the Kaiser Chiefs and Blondie to the Beatles, Converse have been the musician's footwear of choice.
That sounds cool mate. I remember the last time I was in "The Nam". In fact I still get cold sweats. Unfortunately Im away that week. Next time. Oh and the dented beast has finally been picked up. Estimate 1 week ish.
"The Nam" ha ha was it festival weekend? that scares me too ... Next time there will be next year, I think ..

I've looked at Bassace's re-purposed tripod stand idea and I don't think that's going to work for me without gaffa-taping the legs to the stage. I certainly need to sort out something secure as our stages tend to be a bit bouncy when we get going My gig-parking plan at the mo is to strap it to the side handle of my cab using the good ol trusty velcro strap from Ikea (same technique as the markbass thing but cheaper, and longer ) I've been doing something like this with bass guitars for many a year.
The saga continues. Wife waited in all day for the courier who "you guessed it" didnt show. Coming tomorrow to pick it up. Zings assure me it should be in within a week and a half. We shall see. Looks like Ive got some catching up to do OG.
Well I'll have it with me for our gig near Chippenham on Sat May 17th if you are still waiting and fancy a go.
Au contraire mes amis. The violin burst in the flesh is very nice. Looks like a Fender sunburst but with all the different angles, the depth of colour is quite unusual. But what do I know, mine is going back. Silent tear in eye. I want to join in.
Better in the wood eh? So What news on that?
After doing week after week of weddings i find doing a Social(!) club a nice, relaxed change. Not something i enjoy week in week out though.
Sure, I agree the contrast in nice and the "best behaviour" aspect of weddings can be a tad waring, especially if the drunks are out in force ... In our case the antidote is a charity gig or one in our home village .. more mallarchy than you can shake a (morris) stick at ...
If you're being paid reasonable money for these club gigs you've just got to be professional and put on the best show you can regardless.
+1 but... better to not get yourself in that situation in the first place if you don't have the material, show or attitude to fit the gig.
