1.
Interesting Rich. I've operated a few subs that are susceptable to depth changes. Never had a problem with a bass being hung by its neck. Mine have always been well hung.
2. If anything its probably going to be more to do with the temp in your room being higher nearer the ceiling than the rest of the space affecting the stability of the neck. I used to have a SUB which was slightly susceptible to heat change and weather conditions. Sold it to a guy down your neck of the woods... wonder if its the same one.
3. Noticed yesterday that Homebase do a wee metric/imperial twin set that would do the job. £4-5 if memory serves. Won't last a lifetime but should get you a good few setups (incl bridge saddles) out if it.
4.
Did you get it??
Nope. If I was going to get it it would be a restoration job. Went too high for that. I reckon someone will try and part it out now.
5. £192.78 The seller aught to be quite happy with that Was watching this from before it went "BC aware"
6.
Hi there. Just a question to all bass players. If you bought say a Fender Jazz and the action would appear very high with the truss rod adjusted correctly. Then with the bridge saddles lowered all the way down, with no adjustment left,it was still 5mm at the 12th.Would that be ok? Cheers
It's way too high. How do you know the tr is adjusted correctly?
7. The magnets shouldn't be soldered to. If they are then it might be an earth of some sort. Soldering at the pup end of the wire is tricky as you could end up de-soldering the coil wire inside. If in doubt leave it for a pro. If you want to risk it make sure you do it in quick dabs.
8. It depends on the bass. A well made bass should have the ability to achieve an accurate setup. Often on less well made models "perfect" intonation is a compromise. Perfect intonation at the 12th need not necessarily mean the the string is still in at the 20th. Often a badly set nut can be at fault as well as the action being set so high that the very act of fretting a note pulls it sharp... sometimes it's just the neck.
9. Wire wool swarf is an absolute pain if it does get on to your pickups but a job like this is far more manageable with the neck removed (if at all possible)... this being the case, swarf is no longer an issue.
10. I'm not a W-ophile but that looks sweet.
11. Ooh watch it. The threasurrection police will be along in a minute.
12.
? Well I'm on my 2nd and I'm happy????
Horses for courses I guess Peter. I prefer something more high mass to "full contact" myself. These bridges are decidedly low mass. I have a Babicz on my fretless P (it replaced a bbot). On paper it sounds awesome but in practice I found that it actually muted what was there originally. It's still on there like so it's obviously it's not pig awful, just not the miracle it's maker claims it to be. Looks very funky though.
13.
Dammit, Captain!!
Trust me mate you dodged a bullet. (unless you're only after one for the aesthetics)
14. Haha wierd! The forum took a spaz attack while I was typing up the real post. Didn't realise it had done this like. Typical BC though. The real thread gets no replies but the f***ed version gets a comment. I'd probably actually listen to GGGG tuning though. ))))
15. Not normally taken with sigs but this certainly is a refreshing departure from the norm. Not sure if the reverse headstock is a help or a hindrance though.
16. 2 guys who've always captured me with their well chosen wordy bits... Matt Johnson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyIVQEZqkVk and of course Roger Waters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lgOo8yEIPs
