I thought it sounded very "generic metal" in places and strangely clacky in others (Tony nailed it on 13 though). Having said that I only listened to the album right the way through twice - partly because of the hipster press (and hipsters) endlessly espousing a return to the "old" Sabbath and partly out of respect to Bill. I'm old school Sabbath (only listen to original line up era) and it broke my heart that I couldn't get with the album the way they said I should - the auto-tune was a right turn off for starters. I've been a Sab fan since the late 70s and it's Gezz's early tone that I reeeeeally dig and emulate (he was my only credit (outside my family) on our last album ). This pup seems to connect with that tone.

[/quote] He did lose his "Geezer" tone for a few years though (I'd imagine ever since he's been a Lakky boy) ) and these pups seem to have brought it back for him. Shame he (probably) didn't use them on the last album coz his tone on that was utter pish. Those Selects are among the best that EMG do - articulate and loud. Don't tell everyone though or they'll be the next big thing to be hyped out of reality.
  7. DON'T adjust your trussrod for this! (especially if you don't know what you are doing or why) The tr's is job has very little to do with the symptom you describe. The intonation may be out (and probably is) but you said you have a weird noise no matter where you play. This strongly suggests the permanently fixed points : ei. your nut or the saddles. A single string issue indicates a saddle problem (or a duff string). 2 or more strings narrows the culprit down to the nut (given a regular configuration). 8 times out of 10 this sort of pain in the arse anomaly can be attributed to the nut not being set correctly. It could be alleviated by dampening the string beyond the nut but it doesn't address the main issue that's causing it.

[/quote] I have around 30 basses now and wasn't surprised at the last head-count when I discovered that I own more Ps (split and single) than any other configuration. I guess I'm a bit of a fanboy ... although when I build for myself I usually now plop an MFD bucker in the P postion (along with some passive black magic trickery) rather than a regular split P - unless I am going with some other concept. While keeping the EA section in it's correct (Fender) position and switching the DG to the other side I find very little (if any) change to the inherent P tone. It also somehow seems to make more sense to me to have the treble side of the pup that way round on a bass instrument. I do find however that the placement of the MM pup has to be exactly where Leo placed it otherwise it just doesn't cut it sonically. It lacks the basic harmonic nuances which make it Stingrayish.... I'm also a major 'ray fanboy. Yes that bass is mine. It's affectionately know as the the Pingray. That's genuine 'ray pup in there too. Here's another one of my experiments in reverse P-ism.... This is my current main player and produces a surprisingly vast array of differing tones from it's passive circuit.
