2.
...as Burrito said it's a 51, not a nice '54 like yours...
And what, prey tell, is wrong with '51's ???
3. I wish I'd gotten to hear it with Shaun's Ashy rig because he likes his combination and I know from my own experience that Ashdown can dial in unexpected loveliness. Maybe it sounds good as an old school rig but it certainly wasn't a good match for the compact heads we had there. It definitely has the weight issue in the bag but as I said elsewhere the sound on the day was nothing special and the finishing touches were very below par for a cab in this price range. I was given to believe that the intention was to produce a full bottom and focused top end - what I heard was pretty much the opposite. Speaking as someone who hasn't read any of the BF hype and also for the most part doesn't understand "the numbers", I think it sounded exactly how you'd logically expect a good driver in a thin box to sound. There has to be a limit as to where a minimum amount of wood becomes acoustically unviable for a bass cab. Neck on line time (gulp) I believe this cab may have crossed the line. A massive thanks to Shaun for taking it along and giving us some 1st hand experience.
4. Remember the higher the action the harder it is to set the intonation because of the extra stretch you have to put on the string before reaching the fret. I tend to do a lot of my set ups at arms length to my PC and rather than go and fish out a tuner I just plug in to this excellent wee app. I found my TU-2 to be too flakey at times - not had any such flakiness since getting my DT-10.
5.
Top post Rich, wasn't aware you where filming on the day! You can't have been that hungover either as there's no "shakey cam" effect going on. Was that done on your iPhone?... Cheers, Eude
It was just after our trip to the aptly named "Excellent Sandwich Shop" and I was fighting the urge for an old mannie afternoon nap so the shakes had subsided somewhat. Shot on my trusty N958GB - youtube has reduced the bitrate sufficiently to emulate iphone quality.
6. For all you guys who missed out on a fantastic weekend.... Like Shaun (4000), I too felt that there wasn't quite enough time to get through everything but considering that some participants travelled from both ends of the country(s) it would be hard to have it any other way. I think the more of these I attend the better I'll get at organising my own time.
7.
'Walk softly and carry a big guitar'... is that what I think it is? A Dawn Of War reference? haha. I hope that is what it is, being a nerd with other people is one thing...by yourself it's a whole new world of embarrassing pains.
Nope you're on yer own there bud. It's actually from a quote by Teddy Roosevelt which I always thought sounded cool and a wee bit Buddhist so nicked it and changed it for bass. I've always hoped it doesn't mean anything significant State-side as I have it in a sig in a US based forum too.... and no one mentions it their either.
8. Not at all man. My main gigging bass in my originals band is a 5 banger. I just don't go on about it much.
9. Bought one of the sets of Hartke strings for emergency back-ups that John was selling. Paid with PP and they arrived pretty quick... He kindly threw in an extra B should I ever need to tow a truck or something Cheers man. Rich.
10. Nice one John. My strings (plus free gift ) arrived this morning.
11. Cheers man. That's a heck of a compliment coming from a guy with a fantastic collection such as yours. Great to meet you again. It was so funny when you were playing the intro to The Chain on NGH's rig. Turned out to be the only bit of F1 action I got on the last race day of the season.
12. Bought a Markbass bass keeper off Chris. I paid with paypal and it arrived quickly. Cheers man. Rich.
13. Woohoo no more sleeps! See y'all soon.
14.
These were in a friends draw for around 10yrs.... .... they are sitting around in my draw now....
Does it get you more stoned if you keep bass tuners in your draw? Sorry, completely facetious of me.
15. I just came.
16. It's a tab burn yes.
17. Well if it's good enough for the Hoff....
18. An "Apple G4 running Prologic 7 with separate 'Glyph' drive" has come up on here - £400. What do you guys think?
19.
don't care , really
Good point.
20.
I suspect that's shrinkage of the scratch plate ..
Ah, that would explain it... but would shrinkage move the screws too?
21. Aych! Is part of the relicing intentionally not having the control plate and p/g fit each other or was that just how they did it back in '68?
22.
I can see my current inability to drink more than 3 pints without falling over is going to be a real hindrance come Saturday.
Being a sort of take it or leave it kinda guy I've not had the inclination to have a bevy for about the last 2 months now. In light of this, 3 pints might have a similar effect on me. See you under the table.
23.
Few people near death the next day.....
24. Ah, what the hey. I'll take the fat Hartkes please. PM me your details.
25. I know, and then I might actually get paid for a change.
