1. I will offer FREE SHIPPING to whoever purchases this cab BEFORE xmas. Merry Xmas.
2. To be honest guys, it's that sort of incitement that is causing the problems round here. Why can't we all just agree that everyone is different (especially when it comes to conveying what it is we perceive as our version sonic excellence) and be happy with it without getting personal? Alex himself has released a statement saying that he values both positive and negative feedback and will draw on both to improve his future line of cabs. You can't say fairer than that.
3.
...Maybe Alex should get Dave to build the cabs! ...
... and get you to do the PR. - job's a good'un
4. Nope it's not heavy. It's approx 36.3kg in it's stocking feet. Basically a one man lift middle weight cab.
5.
Rich, you know my feelings about this. Seriously, eq-d correctly (a point I will keep making!) in a band situation I'd take my Compact (for rock at least) over most of the other cabs I've used, including all those at Moffat. (I preferred my early Trace 4x10 (although it didn't handle the lows as well) but it also weighed over 100lbs. Even with my back problems I can carry my Compact with on hand (heck, with one finger!). I'm not keen on the finish and detailing but Alex has made an excellent offer to me in that respect. Ultimately I'm pretty happy with the sound and the weight is an absolute godsend; the rest is just gravy.
Yup I know what you are saying Shaun but on the day what we did was put everything on as even a ground as possible and compared the cabs with the same bass and head with a neutral eq and that produced the results that we talked about already. In some ways what we actually tested was how the individual cabs dealt with (coloured) the tone from a controlled amp/bass choice. Maybe that was the point? What we didn't do (and I so wish we had) was take your Ashdown head eq'ed the way you like it through the Compact then do another comparison. That would have shown off better the Compact's individual capabilities rather than us being all scientific and exploring mutual characteristics. Putting the subjectiveness of sound aside though, my biggest disappointment was that it just wasn't finished to the same degree as the others in the same pro price bracket. I believe that this is what puts BF at it's greatest disadvantage and may even be the enabler for the brand's criticism especially when you see what other young companies (like Purple Chili) are capable of producing in terms of build quality and finish. One thing's for sure your wee cab has opened up a big old can of worms and because of the ensuing debate I for one have leaned a lot.
6. A fine question indeed. Yep you can configure it whatever way suits you best. I found the firing down and firing up positions behave much as you'd expect - more thump with the 12 facing down and more perceived volume (like you'd ever need that) when you have it pointed up at you head. However I think the the effect is pretty localised. The major strength of this cab apart form being so articulate is it's ability to slice through the mix and project your sound equally as well to the back of the room as it does near the front of the stage (I'm sure I've read somewhere that it's something to do with interference patterns and the twin 10's being stacked vertically ??? whatever, it works). So strange as it may seem (unless you are playing a tiny venue) what I found was that firing up or down only alters your onstage sound rather than what your audience gets out the front. Obviously it presents you far more options when micing up.
7. Nice wee review there Jon. Let's hope you get a bit more output once you drop the strings a bit. Hope you don't get this killer cold/flu/man flu I've contracted - it's a right bastard... everything hurts.
8. Ah yes you can't beat a bit of the old "tricks with ping pong balls" to liven up a turn.
9.
show me some love.
((man hug))
10. Nice. Didn't do him much good in the end though.... should have offered shipping.
11. I have it on good authority that BF cabs cannot be compared to any other cab until you A/B them in a live situation with a full band - therefore most, if not all the comparisons above are moot. To my knowledge I have only witnessed 1 BF cab in the flesh and I am not surprised by Shockwave's observations on lack of bottom-end and finishing quality. The one I saw was put through it's paces against several other pricey cabs and it came out by far the bottom of the heap for sound (hence why Alex sprung to it's defence and offered the unique statement about not being able to hear them properly unless in a live situation), finish quality and (subjectively) aesthetics but it was undeniably the lightest cab in the room. My tuppence on the subject and from what I've picked up from those less bowled over by the hype is that Alex is very passionate about the fruits of his labours but as yet the BF line is still very much at an early developmental stage (what product isn't in a state of developmental flux) and if the price reflected this rather than pushing the line to rub shoulders with more noteworthy, fully developed packages then there would be little room for complaint. All the best to everyone involved in this... Rob especially.
12.
Anybody get this Antoria? Went for more than I expected anyway.
13.
.... You can confidently ignore anything youve heard about woolly Ashdowns, it's all bollox....
+1000 I used to have one of these.

17. Dude, why don't you just bump your old thread instead of creating a new one every day?
18. Not original condish.... but then again I don't really know if a sympathetic recon' is strictly a good or bad thing in the vintage market. I suspect not for some people. Still they don't get much rarer than this I suppose.
19. Of course, you know you're gonna get a 1000 enquiries to post now. Good luck with the sale Mat.
20. I've got one of these. They're wkd bump
21.
That's good to know - some gentle scratching & maybe a bit of solvent should get the glue residue off. What a weird thing to do - it's not a cosmetic improvement at all! It'll need a couple of Sure-Grip knobs to finish it, like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180442903908 J.
Actually I quite like it... sorta MusicMan-esque and the proportions are very sympathetic. +1 on the knobs though. Going on what Neepheid pointed out about glue being not necessary, I wonder if it really is glue. It would make sense if it was maybe switch cleaner or something had been sprayed in there and it inadvertently bonded the varnish to the control plate. ???
22. Nice one. A hoor of a bargain too.
23. Give me a 'U'
24. Always thought the song a little too chirpy so kinda switched off to it. I heard it right the way through on the radio today. Effing great bass line!!! I might learn it... to get myself more into the xmas mood. I did the Slade one last year.
