1. Major suckage! I'm in pretty much the same boat musically and am staring to face up to the fact that starting something new is the only option. I've already put out some tentative feelers. It's kind of crap that this forum is entirely about the one instrument that you don't need 2 of in a band, therefore although many of us seem to be on the same page we'll never get to play together.
 2. Sounds like a plan. It certainly was a shady audition.... but the churchy stuff sort of explains it for me. Maybe we are gonna be stars on The Real Hustle.
 3. Our drummer entered us into a BOTB - £1000 top prize with sundry other runners-up prizes. link Our audition was arranged for tonight. I was the first to arrive. The address turned out to be a small church. I go in the front part of the church and hear a man and woman having a right full on mental argument [African accent] "Woman that is pathetic, I refuse to speak to you until you calm down ........Waaaaah" I eventually stick my head through the door with a very tentative "Excuse me is the where the auditions are?" and suddenly shouty guy is all smiles and Mr. Shaky-hands-man. I'm shown to the stage. The supplied gear is all brand spanking and top notch, no doubt donated by the "co-sponsor" (see link) which is the main music store here in Aberdeen. Bose PA, a huge keyboard and a nice minty drum, kit. The bass rig was a Hartke 250w 15" combo thing - easily good enough for the wee stage (which is great as it was bucketing down tonight and I didn't fancy get my gear wet taking it in from the car). The other guys turn up and we set up. There were the obligatory setbacks - a promised guitar amp wasn't there so one of our guitards had to plug straight into the desk and not enough power points. It soon became apparent that the guys running this hadn't much of a clue what they were doing as all 4 of them bumble their way around the desk - levels are all over the shop and the drum monitor remained silent throughout. I start thinking "what's the scam here?". Then we were introduced to the camera man. We didn't know we were getting filmed. I quietly mentioned to the guys that we should probably get something in writing if we are getting filmed but although my concerns were initially interesting they were quickly forgotten. We played our 2 best songs as good as we could considering the circumstances. Then we were sat down for a sort of formal interview - which was pretty funny to start with as our drummer elected himself spokesman but he has the thickest Aberdeen accent and the African/London guys didn't have a clue what the hell he was saying. Eventually they realised that myself and the singer were most likely to give coherent answers and all questions came our way. Anyway after the "how long have you been together/ how did you meet stuff" the questions seem to be directed mainly toward our creative skills. So we blew our own trumpets good and proper. Then as quickly as it started the interview was over and it was revealed to us that we got through to "the final" and how we have to compose 3 new songs for the event. We are given the date for the finals (3 weeks time) and that we will play against 5 other bands one song at a time in a head-to-head knock out type arrangement. Oh yeah, did I mention that the 3 new song had to be lyrically BASED UPON THE SCRIPTURES? (I forgot to ask which particular religion's scriptures they had in mind but I'd say with confidence we're talking Christian) Suddenly this clicked with how shady I was feeling about the whole deal and it started to make sense. He told us that the event is going to be covered by the local media (presumably with a large religious slant) then he rolled off a list of the major TV, radio and newspaper from this area. Despite us all being heathen non-religious types we (verbally) agreed to the show... I'm still worried about copyright though.
 4.
I just got confused when I misread that as mosfet, and thought that there was a whole bass bash about a certain type of amplifier
Well you do have to apply in writing if you want to take anything other than a LMII.
 5. It makes more sense too because if he did buy another company the biatch would still get half.
 6.
Our singers surname is Moffat. Just thought I'd share that. :-D
There was a kid at my school who's surname was Singer. What are the chances of that eh?
 7.
So your current Status is your lacking some Energy? I'll get me coat also, turn the light out and shut the door
Or So your Status Energy lacks current. Hmmm, it sounded better in my head *footsteps* *coat* *click* *thump*
 8. I have a guitar version  it's not bad for taking round to yer mates house for a quite house jam. Aren't these re-badged Marshalls?
 9.
Won't be as late a night as last time......3am ish as I remember (or not) B&B has a bar until 12.30 this time - probably a very good thing
Am gettin a kerryoot fur me room en.

 11.
...And here is a link with some more details:- moffat-bass-bash...
LOL @ the pic of me trying to see off the hangover with a Redbull. Change of plan - instead of taking the wee Schroe I thought it might be fun to bring my MB 104HF. Matt you'll be sitting on the roof. Is there a band again this time?
 12. We're looking into MacDaddy's suggestion. Need some ideas for a sound card/interface now. I've been put off the MRS-1608 - unless you have the USB card (which that one doesn't have) then you are pretty much stuffed if you want to transfer you recordings unless you burn everything to CD each time.... + you can't play games on it.
 13. I'd be interested too.
 14. Oh my giddy aunt much cheapness!
 15. Thanks guys. Keep the ideas coming. cheddatom : I'm probably best looking at something portable to take to rehearsals or round to the other guys flats etc. Cheers. Someone's selling a Zoom MRS-1608 on here. Would that be an ok option or would it be too complicated for someone new to more indepth recording?
 16.
I can't work out why the fingerboard was wax treated for protection? To keep the rain off perhaps?
17.
All the modifications have been completed to a high standard
18. My g/f has been bugging me to come up with ideas for my birthday pressie this year, a] I'm not too bothered and b] I haven't a clue what I could want. So we didn't get very far with it. Tonight, with the big day impending and after overhearing me moaning with a mate on the phone about studio prices, she hits me with "how about a laptop for recording demos etc?". Suddenly I'm interested. I'm more of a PC gaming guy so know zip about laptops (other than how to get hers online).... What hardware would I need and can you suggest some actual models that I could link her to? Budget would be around £500. I'd like to be able to play the odd game on it too. Cheers.

 20. Yeah I reckon all these "reality" style adverts are done with actors. OT : I wouldn't mind slipping it to the geeky bird in the other tmob advert - the one that pulls all those weird faces while the b/f tells us he wants to call his nan.
 21. Why did it take getting given some free texts before he could get a band together?
 22. Trust your instincts. Throw away the books and train your fingertips to "sing" the tune that's in your head. Jam along to CDs that you know well but don't know the tab to.
 23. Your avatar has lost it's sparkle bro.
 24.
The drivers have never actually been used, Dave only plays through the tweeters anyway
a little bit of pee came out
Only thing I would be interested in trading them for is a Schroeder 1212L
How about a 21012? :brow:
 25. I'm not saying it needs major work but I do see that the work needed to do his properly is beyond what your average guy can cope with well. This pic needs close examination.... (sorry it gets a bit CSI here ) You can see that a chunk of headstock has been knocked out behind the nut and has been replaced with what looks like a bit of rough old pine. The join profile curves up wards not straight out the back. It is while preparing the area to be filled that the sharp edge of the fretboard that should butt tightly against the nut has been lost. I'm guessing that, in order to detract from this somewhat, is why the fretboard varnish from the nut to the 1st fret has been removed. It probably looked ok to start with but dirt has gotten into the grain now and has discoloured it. This botchery will never look like natural wear or relicing so should be sorted (subjective I know - but I couldn't live with 1 dark fret on an otherwise sweet looking neck). The repair encompasses work on the face and sides of the headstock and part of the fb also the intonation of the nut would have to be checked too. All well and good if you can do this yourself (which we can) but would it be economically viable to have someone do a job like this for you on a 100 quid bass? IMHO.
