1. Gone in under a minute. Things sure shift fast on here.
2. I bought Andy's Akai Unibass (bank transfer). He let me know when it was on it's way and next thing I knew it was here. Absolutely loving the Unibass. Thanks very much man. Cheers. Rich.
3. I've only ever had beer riders... even when we've requested some water we just got beer! Never had food. We did a gig sponsored by Carling once and were very well looked after. My maddest rider was in the Lemon Tree, about 4-5 bands on all night and the rider was a huge tub thing (maybe 4 foot cubed) in the green room stacked to the brim with bottles and ice. Somehow we emptied it. One of the regular venues we do has band rates at the bar. I find that more civilized as you can have a snifter of whatever you fancy each time you go up instead of cracking open a tube of the pot luck brew from the vip fridge.
4. The covered contour is a bit of a bother.
5. My favorite was Consideration. I remember making a big deal about it at the time and demanding to my g/f that it be played at my funeral.
6. That's just crazy This guy makes custom ones. I bought a clear one off him. Very high quality.... and not £170 a pop.
7. Get a Stingray.
8. Doh I would so have had this had I not just bought a PX4D... which appears to be "lost in the post" at the moment.
9. Interesting looking thing. Your second link isn't working though. Allow me... linky
10.
Wow that's really strange as whenever I pick up my guitar I play really bad which makes my think it was previously owned by some old geezer that didnt have a clue! I also hum while playing but that's down to the lack of deodorant!
Did I sell you that guitar?
11. Welcome to the forum.
12. Not really a fan as such but their gig in the Lemon Tree here in Aberdeen (circa 2000) goes down as probably the best gig of my life. The place was heaving, it was stupidly loud, massive party atmosphere and crowd surfing a plenty. Our singer had a jam and got his acoustic guitar signed earlier that day in a grotty pub near by.
13. Surely not. Ebay is a friendly community built on mutual trust and good faith.
14.
The N0----- seems right for 90/91... But, what is it?.... not seen a Fender USA J5 like this before:-
N + 6 digits = 1993-1994
15. Mine's in as minty condish as the day I first picked it up. Although the frets seem to be further apart now, requiring a claw hand to play rather than delicate little widdely fingers.
16. I played it last night. Very comfortable bass and luxurious in the hand with all that satiny goodness. Nice neck profile not chunky not slim. Sound wise? Modern sounding and yet somewhere between a Stingray and P too. Tonnes of tight bottom end (and we all like a tight bottom end). My favourite switch positions (played through my LMII into both my MarkBass 104HF then my Schroeder 21012) was either full on neck pup or the 2 inner coils, both positions gave a phatt sound without even bothering the eqs for assistance. I should think that this bass will have no problems at all in cutting through the mix in a live situation. Can't wait to hear it in action.
17. EB should have done their 5er with this style p/g and control plate - much nicer looking IMHO. You know you're gonna get asked for nut width and string spacings - get in before the rush.
18.
If it was a 5 id be interested...but as it is it is still stunning. I love that colour! I already have 2 Stingray 4's so one more is too much Good luck with the sale!
Try saying that on the EB site.
19. PM'd
20.
Onstage at the Town Hall may 2009
Nice 'ray.
21. Man that seemed to take ages. Can't wait to hear it.
22. How would it cope with medium to large venues?
23.
So only expensive basses have good necks now?!
Ugh why is this subject rubbing so much sand into our vah-chinas. It was only supposed to be an example (one that the less tetchy of us could relate to). There are tons of reasons why a bass won't set up properly and for me step one is the neck (after all that's the most variable factor - that's where the ambient environment affects it more) then onto the bridge etc. etc. I knew as soon as I posted that that my post would get nit picked - I even went to edit in all the myriad of other reasons I could think of but then I though "hey this film is kind of interesting" and lost interest in this flogged horse. But if you'd really like to put your money where you mouth is, would you be willing to swap the neck from your favourite bass with one off one of those Swift basses (for example ) that you see on the bay? I don't suppose the phrase "you get what you pay for" means anything in this regard. In my experience all well made basses I've come in contact with have had nice necks and all bad necks I've come in contact with have come from cheap basses. And before the sand gets too scratchy, I know that there will be exceptions to what I have experienced but surely common sense would dictate that the ratio of these occurrences to what I've described is very low and therefore doesn't bear mentioning.
24. If the neck is lacking at all, no amount setting up will see it done properly.
