I'm sorry but I can't believe you expected the shop to just knock almost £100 off just because you'd travelled a fair distance. 'That's what you are gonna get boys'? I'm not surprised they refused with that attitude.
I think they were mad not to take his 900 CASH! Speaking to the boss/manager would probably of made the sale.

When Leo Fender met a Basschat Legend
Oh, here's the sad bit. A year or so later I was a bit hard up, not playing the 'Ray, and sold it to a friend on the basis that when I got sorted I would have first option back. Fews months went by and he rang me so I gets all excited only to hear that the bass had been stolen from his car outside a gig. Never been seen since.
Wouldn't it be cool if we somehow found it and all chipped in to buy it as the forum bass. It would of course reside in the Tyne area. -
Apart from my first bass, I have never bought an instrument in either of our local shops. Prices are high, stock is low and rarely refreshes (one shop has been trying to sell a Gibson Thunderbird since I started seriously playing bass, it seems) and sometimes they can't even get it together to find me a half decent patch cable. I buy all my stuff online or by private transaction. The shops round here suck and apart from depriving me of a cheap laugh (the only cheap thing in there) I probably wouldn't be too bothered if they shut or stopped pretending to sell basses.
Amen to that brother.

Best time to announce leaving a band...
Ou7shined replied to Stylon Pilson's topic in General Discussion
I did it in the pub. Some mates and I reformed a band that did quite well locally a few years ago. I was a major writing force in the band but as time went on I realised that we just weren't gelling any more, some of us had grown musically while others were struggling to keep up. Ultimately for me, there were just more cons than pros to me staying in the band. We did our last firmly booked gig, then I picked a good moment when we were all together speaking about going into the studio in the near future to brake the news that I was leaving. After the predictable Q&A session we all went down to an open mic night half cut and totally rocked out our best 4 or 5 tunes then got absolutely minging together on shots and left it at that. The guys have stayed together and scooped up the first bass player that came along. Everyone's happy... especially me. Especially as the new guy isn't half the player I am - I'd have been well pissed off if my replacement had been better than me. -
Love the last pic.
I've found with ER20s that if you start using them straight away at your own rehearsals then you will really struggle. Your best bet is to stand in the audience at other gigs with them on to start with as the pressure is off you to play while listening at the same time and you're less likely to pull them out in frustration. I found that it took me at least a few weeks of wearing them for me to get used to the sound and for my brain to adjust. Love wearing them now and everything sounds like a painful loud mush without them in. Result!
+100
Thanks everyone, had my ears syringed this afternoon and can't believe the difference.. everything is so loud somethings are unbearable! lol Going to a gig tonight too so that should be interesting! Earplugs all the way from now on lol!
Glad you got it all sorted.
I had the ER-20s for ages, and swore by them. I lost one of the first pair, so I bought another set, which was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. However, the quality control on this pair seemed below par - they both fell apart after a few months of moderate use....
My first set were the ones that come in that Elacin rhomboidal snappy-shut case. They did their job ok but did cut some lower frequencys so it was kind of tricky at rehearsals. They eventually started to discolour so I got some more. The next set came in a round hard plastic case (ACS printed on them) they look exactly the same but perform completely differently. They do more of what I expected - volume cut but hardly any alteration to the sound - I have joked that they are CD quality. Maybe you get good uns and bad uns.

My dream bass has appeared on the bay
Ou7shined replied to Alfie's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Maybe he's just a tinkerer who doesn't know how to set up his bass properly. It is mentioned that the action is quite high (some numbers would be helpful like). That could be as a result of a dodgy neck too although to be fair the extra string height could cause some intonation oddness. Still there's enough cause not to buy unless played first imo. She is beautiful though. -

maybe just as well, that's some pretty radical intonation going on there, the neck might have issues. -
Zoiks that's a good price!
