1. Bought Jon's Badass II. I PMed him about in the afternoon, did a bit of the old paypal and next morning it was on my bass. Faultless transaction. Cheers mate. Rich.
2. If I was in my local music pub chatting away and 2 unknown guys got up started doing this I'd find it extremely hard to remain ambivalent about it. I think myself and every other muso that I know would stop what we were doing, listen and probably give great thanks at the end. It's certainly not my cup of tea but the effort that goes into pulling something like that off surley deserves some respect.
3.
I have 2 3EQ Stingrays. One of them is ten years old, and Ive had them both from new. As they were classed as high end for me back when I was 18/19, Ive barely used them live, and they have been looked after like an expensive sports car! At the time, when I was buying, the stores never had the 2EQ versions....and all the internet advice was to 'go for the 3EQ as its more flexible'. I would like to have one 2EQ, but Id lose a lot of cash trying to swap for one. I wont be able to get one 2nd hand thats in the same condition as mine....id have to get one thats virtually new. So, im sticking with what Ive got. What I notice is the finish first and foremost. Despite Fender now having a better QC, the EB finish is IMO a touch better. It seems very very solid, and has that brilliant high gloss shine. My favourite? The natural with maple. The wood used is brilliant, and matches the shade of maple very closely. I now make sure I play them at home and wipe the chrome down to make sure it still shines. Sad I know. The natural is never getting sold, as it sentimental and my very first 'proper' bass guitar near the £1k mark. No one I knew at my age (18/19) had a brand new Ray as nice as mine so its going to be kept. The black? The finish is awesome. It is such a deep black, and the rosewood board is dark and well finished. If im honest, I couldnt sell it. Its again been looked after really well, barely gigged, and looked after at home. Again, sad I know hahah. A Ray cuts through the mix like crazy. Once the black Rays strings die, im going to change them for the EB Flats ive got waiting for it. A Stingray with flat sounds awesome. Im a sucker for brunettes, but the blonde does it on this one!
You're probably not going to like this but if you ever were to be selling then now would be about the right time. The price for second hand 'rays has soared recently. It's probably cheaper to buy one from the USA and pay all the charges now than pay some of the asking prices on here at the moment. I don't expect it will last long as everyone will start doing it and before you know it supply will outstretch demand and they'll £550 again. The bad news for you is that a good condition with lumps and bumps 'ray will achieve the same price as a mint one.
4.
...I think the Stingray is a unique sound, absolutely, no question. There's nothing out there which sounds as "stingray" as a erm Stingray. Probably because of the lineage of design, the G&L's I've owned (2 x ASAT's, 1 x L2500) have been much more "Fender" than "Musicman". I think that maybe Leo went off from Fender, did the genius of the Ray but then came back to a more "traditional" "best of both" design that became the G&L. The G&L kinda gets close to the "MM" sound but the construction, pickups and preamp are much more Fender'y to me. The best "Precision on steroids" sound ....
+100
5.
the two sweet spots might overlap, but IMO the precision pickup sounds better if the EA pickup remains where it is, and the DG moves the other side of it, so its closer to the neck. if you're really looking for that musicman sweet spot with a P pickup, thats the way to go i'd say. oh, and Vibrating G String, nice OLP!
Just like my current project then. :brow: I've gone to great lengths to get the pups as authentically place as possible. Obviously it can't be done with the overlap so the next best thing is the DG shift as per the Sandberg PM range (although Sandberg use their own spacings). The pups I'm using are a genuine MM Stingray pup and a Delano P (also used by Sandberg). The above pic is an early mock-up so has a standard P pup - also doesn't include the addition of a SD STC-2 preamp which has 3 pots with a stacked control set. actual shot from my build diary...
6. Fantastic clips. I'm sooooo glad I have a 2eq.
7. Definitely wonky. I think it might just be the neck plate though.
8. And sometimes even BCers fess up to such jolly japes I used to have a mate who did the same to all his auctions - when he'd run out of folk to ask it he'd try me, then get all sniffy at me for being a cock and declining his request.
9. Hey this is going to be wicked. We could start a pimped Encore club.
10. I'm not sure how that would work. Make a mock-up in photoshop first. That's always a good starting point.
11. This might help.
12. I thought it was ok - obviously not as much as my fellow Aberdonian above () as now I've heard it I can let it go. They looked like they were having fun. Why knock it? It is what it is - 2 guys with a talent for the widdely-widdely playing to a happy audience that paid to see them do that kind of stuff. As for why the both had twin necked guitars but only played one in this 4 minute video - well, taken out of context it seems absurd but do we know that they didn't use them during the rest of the performance? If anything's "up it's own arse" it's this thread for ripping into a piece of music TalkBass style for not being perfect or normal or not being verse chorus verse chorus so you can dance to it.
13.
... the pickups are fanatastic. IMO i wouldn't pay much more than the current bidding price (about £65), maybe upto a £100.
Pity it's only got one then.
14. But... but.... but.... it's not a Precision.
15. I'd never heard of the loss of bargain rule until now but you may be on to something there. Perhaps you should be a lawyer. Loss Of Bargain Rule Definition : Legal rule that damages paid to the aggrieved party in a breach of contract case should be sufficient in amount to put that party in a position it would have been had the breach not occurred. Looks like all you'd have to do is prove that the contract has been breached. In both of these cases the sellers are claiming an error had been made in the listings (allegedly m'lud) but surely even if you were to give them the benefit of the doubt, they both had plenty time to spot and correct the errors. In joegarcia's case they have admitted that the error listed the pedal a 100 quid short of it value. By withholding the item they are effectively knowingly robbing him of £100.
16.
Not going well. The seller isn't cooperating at all and eBay sent me a useless reply simply saying I couldn't open a conflict as I haven't paid for the item (I did but was refunded) and I already have another case open (complete non response from another seller after sale). Argh, gonna try phoning eBay tomorrow. Is it worth me sending payment straight back? Hesitant as the refund won't clear into my account for ages.
Nah they'd only refund it you again. Stick with your plan of calling ebay - it's much better than filling out forms. Don't let anyone fob you off, your winning bid is a contract.
17. +1 Surly the whole point of a GL (ignoring the minutely thinner neck) is the pup position? Oh and they don't only come in Black.
18.
Yea, sent a strongly worded email to the seller and am in talks with eBay now. I can't open a case straight away as they already refunded me. I'm guessing that the seller offered it to me afterwards for much more won't bode well for them.
Good, stick with it man. It's legally yours.
19. Dude fight it. You won it fair and square.
20. This is the bass I would have bought... from the money I could have saved... by going to compare.com. Have a bump.
21. You guys aught to know better than that - see new rules about prices. Hey Lance didn't those Toneriders used to be mine? One of these days someone will get round to putting them in a bass.
22.
this bass its not for sale anymore. thanks to all posts, Pedro
Oh.
