I sessioned for a hip-hop act a few years ago that continuosly said "That was ill!". That bugged me after a couple of weeks.
Anyway, I think 'tone' is a perfectly useful word to describe the noise you want to/actually make. It's when people apply some sort of godlike status to the word that annoys me. Truckstop

I'm a recent La Bella convert. La Bella Steels have plenty of zing and plenty of mids while still retaining that lovely P bass rumble. Nothing old fashioned about their tone at all! Nice tension too, I'm a robust fingerstyle or plectrum user and they suit me down to the ground rather than Rotos or D'addarios which I find are a little too stiff. Truckstop

For that money you could get a great, clean well looked after Yamaha TRB or maybe a MIJ Fender P-Deluxe? Slightly more versatile than a regular P I suppose! Truckstop Edit: Forgot to mention you could probably get a decent American G&L.

Hmm, it surprises me that it'd be plywood because I didnt think it could be that heavy! But oh well, I love it anyway. Used it for two gigs already and it's already made me the £50 I paid for it a few times over! I might still slip some better pickups in it though. Some SD's or DiMarzios? Not sure. I don't really have a favoured sound so to speak so it's a chance for me to experiment and discover more about what sort of sound I like. Thanks for all your help guys Alex

Just got back from the Royal Stag in Hemel Hempstead. Small crowd as one of the regulars was getting married and so all the usual punters were on the other side of town but we were still well received and the people that were there were nice and loud. Sank a few bevvies and had a great night, we sounded good and got two more gigs and a potential wedding out of it so a good night all in all. MacDonalds on the way home and a nice glass of bourbon and I'm nearly ready to get to bed. Truckstop

Hello all, Bought an Encore P of Ziggydolphinboy in the week and I'm very surprised as to its quality. Quite heavy, maybe 10-12lbs? Indicates proper wood, and the maple neck has some really nice figuring and a few touches of flame. Great pickups with a strong output, tone control's a bit 2d but it's good enough. Has the remnants of a 'Made in India' sticker underneath the strap button and has a 'Freedmans' shop sticker on the back of the headstock. The finish is a sort of pearlescent cream/Ivory colour. Maybe what some people would call metallic? With a white 3ply pickguard. Heavy duty bridge. Can anyone date this? The lacquering on the neck and headstock seems to show some age, but it could just be a coloured lacquer. I like knowing how old my gear is, and my gut says early to mid 90's. Really I was just wondering when Encore's started to get crap because this one certainly isnt! Cheers Alex

Yeah didnt immediately make a Martin Grech comparison but I can totally hear him in his work. Speaking of which I havent listened to Unholy for years, I'll give it a whirl right now! Truckstop -

So, I was searching Youtube for some ideas. My band want to do a cover of 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and I came across this and creamed myself: Intriuged, I did some digging to see what else these guys had been up to and came across this!: I could link everything they've ever done but it'd take ages. I've literally spent the last 3 hours just listening to these guys and Im completely mesmerised by their talent. Great videos, great music and great ideas! Truckstop

Looking for a new lightweight rig, any suggestions please
Truckstop replied to police squad's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah, surely 2 2x10's or 2 1x15's would be best? Of course it's all personal preference, of course; but the old "10s for sparkle 15s for bass" is proper out of the window. The best tone comes from matching speaker sizes! But you say you were happy with the Hartke 4x10/1x15 rig so by all means carry on! Truckstop -
Bought his Encore off of him for the bargain price of 50 clams! Came exactly as described and am very happy all told. Sorry I couldnt stay for longer, but had to shoot! Hope the kids didnt run too many rings around you Cheers Alex

cheap precision bass and soft case £50.00Yep £50.00! SOLD :-)
Truckstop replied to ziggydolphinboy's topic in Basses For Sale
Well got it home and had a good old go on it and it's wicked! Now I can leave my BC Rich at home for gigs so I dont have to worry about it getting broken or anything. And I think I might leave it as it is to be honest. It all looks good as it is and it sounds fine. If someone's selling some pups on here for good money I might be tempted to swap them out but otherwise I'm happy with it. I cant believe that Encore actually made pretty decent instruments, well chuffed! Certainly wasnt expecting a heavy duty well made solid wood bass with (admittedly retrofitted) good tuners and a 3-ply pickguard. Truckstop -
Well smart! Truckstop

Jammy bastard! But well done that man I suppose! What shop was it? Maybe someone should get a van up there! Truckstop

Well it's a bit of give and take isnt it? In my band, the drummer and guitarist just love stuff like AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Sabbath and Maiden. Everyone else doesnt! But we play functions and pub gigs. So for the pubs we'll play a heavier set to keep those guys happy and for the functions we play a more pop/soul set to keep the rest of us happy. It's all about having a tracklist so extensive that you all get to play what you want occasionally! Every month, we each pick one song we want to cover and then we'll work on them so that's 5 new songs a month (unless we cant make it work) and we're all happy! Truckstop Truckstop
There was one time my band rented a C-20 (Chevy's 'Transit') from Rent-A-Wreck to go do a weekend of rehearsals up in the mountains in the middle of Pennsylvania. Me and the singer got back approx. one month later with the van on a trailer, all the windows busted out, every panel bent and even some bullet holes in it. Long story.
? Truckstop
