  1. Well some people want different things out of their bands innit. For example. I'm happy to wear DJs and play in hotels, my guitarist is happy playing rock covers in spit and sawdust pubs! So we mix up our gigs and setlist so we're all happy Truckstop
  2. Oh dear. So since my previous post in this thread, I've completely changed my rig and moved on two of my basses and bought two more! So, current GAS: Full set of obbm cables Double iGiG bag Fender PJ sunburst
  3. I think he means if you already have gear that's doing the job just fine, why buy anything else? Personally I'd just buy one amazing cab. EBS Neoline, Barefaced, Schroeder etc you could get something really special to bring out the best of your current amp and basses. Any money left over I'd get good cables from Obbm (do a search for him on this site, he makes literally the best cables) and get some good accessories together. iGiG bags, decent stands, a few spare packs of strings etc. £500 is not to be sniffed at though. Im currently saving for a wedding, and that would go a long long way! Truckstop
  4. Lamb of God are a great band, all very talented musicians. It's a shame they keep on churning out the same old stuff though. Truckstop
  5. TRB ftw! Maybe a Warwick if you can find one you like Truckstop
  6. I've played a couple OLP's and they were not bad at all. But I've never come across an unmodded one. Usually, the pups or the bridge will have been changed, read into that what you will. But made of proper wood and have comfy necks. I would say around the £100-£150 mark? Truckstop
  7. Right, so where is it? I could wrangle the day off work and I havent been to any sort of bassbash thing for aaaaages and the East Anglia one's not til June 24th! Truckstop
  8. [sup][/sup] [sup]?[/sup] [sup]Truckstop[/sup]
  9. I think maple looks better, but that rosewood feels better. Personally I have no idea of one sounds better than the other because there are so many things on a bass that will change the sound more than the fretboard material! Truckstop
  10. I used a Jazz and lots of valves and 15" speakers for my old classic rock covers group. Nailed the sound perfectly and looks cool as f***. Maybe a chorus for slower passages for textures but that is it! Truckstop
  11. The circuit board, on closer inspection, simply linked all the jacks and the speakon inputs to the speaker wire socket. No crossovers etc to be found. I imagine they did this just to keep everything tidy to make it easier to build. It's only a chinese built Ampeg after all! Anyway, I'd always thought that it was bad practice to use both the 1/4" and the Speakon at the same time to run two cabs. Is this not the case? So if I have two 8ohm cabs, they each get 250w because the head's running at 4ohms (the full 500w available)? And this won't change whether they're connected parallel or in series? Thanks for your help mate. This is the first time I've ever exposed myself to the world of cabinets properly. Always been too afraid before! Alex
  12. I have one and it's wick! So easy to use to get a great sound in a small box and it lasts ages on a single 9v battery. I've also used it to record and it's deathly quiet and can be tweaked easily to get any sound you're after. If they'd bothered to put a 'drive' knob on it, I think it'd be outselling Sansamp etc. Truckstop
  13. Right, I've just soldered the speaker directly into one of the 1/4" jacks and all is good! Lovely rich Ampeg tones! Truckstop
  14. So, I did the 9v battery test and there is movement and a little 'pop' from the speaker so this means it's working? If that's the case, then I need to either replace the input jacks or the circuit board that connects all the jacks/speakons to the speaker wires or bodge something together so that I can just run the cab off one input. Because my Ampeg PF-500 has only one speaker output, I'd have to daisy chain my cabs together anyway so this 115 only really needs one input jack? It wouldn't affect the ohmage or the wattage it can handle, right? Once again, any help is gratefully received! Truckstop
  15. Cool, will report back with my findings. Thanks for the help! Truckstop
  16. Hello all, Need a bit of advice please! I've bought a 115 cab for next to no money as it just stopped working one day. I was wondering how to test the components to work out what needs replacing. Basically, the back panel has 2 1/4" jacks and 2 speakons (no db adjusters or attenuators). The sockets are all attached to a basic looking board and off the board there is a blue wire and a white wire that run to the speaker. The speaker looks to be ok, no burns or tears but who knows! There is absolutely no sound coming out of it at all, not even a hum! Apparantly, the cab was used with a head far too powerful for it and the original owner suspects that it just fried the electrics somehow. Any thoughts would be helpful, I'll put some photos up later! Cheers Alex
  17. Personally I think the last/current 'angry young man' is Roughton Reynolds of Enter Shikari. Their previous album Common Dreads, drew from the invasion of Iraq and the subsequent political shenanigans. The current album rails against political corruption, the rich/poor divide, the oil trade and other issues facing normal people today. Well worth a listen. Seeing as the album got to no.4, a lot of people are hearing Shikari's message! Truckstop Edit: common dreads reached no.3 in the album charts and they are signed by Atlantic records. So maybe the problem is is that most protest music is rubbish!
  18. The cateres don't get paid, they lose hundreds of pounds in stock; if the pub doesn't sell their stock, they lose hundreds of pounds. If the band don't get paid....? Look, I agree that bands should never pay to play, or play for free. But this is different. This is a national event celebrating the life and reign of one of the worlds most recognisable people. In your local village! I don't think you're devaluing music or the live music scene by playing one gig out of many gigs for free. I've paid for all my gear several times over by playing gigs. In all respects, I wouldn't stand to actually lose money by playing for free. If I was a professional musician, then fine, it's uneconomical for me to work for free. But I'm not. I may be alone here, but doing favours for people makes the world go around, balances the karma ad all that. I totally appreciate where Nigel and BRX are coming from, but do you not believe in exceptions? Do you not believe in helping people out? By not paying the bands £600 to turn up, they could have freed money up to pay for a minibus of kids to come, or some elderly people who want to really celebrate the jubilee! It's just nice to be nice every now and then. And for one, I commend the OP for agreeing to play! Yours royalistically, Truckstop
  19. God, just do the gig! What's wrong with showing a bit of willing every now and then?! It'll be fun, you'll get to play for lots of people, and you'll ingratiate yourself into village life. I'm sure the organisers will be able to stretch to a free bar for and some free food. If not, who cares? Everyone else in the universe will be paying for the pleasure of celebrating the jubilee. Just because you'll be "working" doesn't mean you should get away with it for free in my opinion. Just suck it up, do the show and show your appreciation that you've been asked to play in the first place. Truckstop
  20. One owned 2 Fender jazzes in my time and the neck pup has always been louder. Or rather has been perceived to be louder. I always put it down to the different frequencies of the pup being heard giving the impression of sounding louder. Also owned a 70's Gherson jazz that had had the pups switched around (so the neck pup was at the bridge and vice versa) and noticed that the neck pup sounded louder than the bridge. Hope that helps? Truckstop
  21. Blimey, I used to have one of these with 2 matching 4x10 cabs! I remember it was certainly loud and actually had a pleasing sound. The cabs were actually very well constructed and gave huge amounts of bottom end. The head was also of solid construction and never crapped out on me in 3 years of heavy use. Once again due to the micro-head craze, someone's gonna get a great bargain here. £100 for a good quality, versatile bass amp. Dont let the 200w rating put you off, it certainly utilises each and every one of them! Truckstop
  22. I hate rotos for that exact reason. They feel as rough as f*** and are just uncomfortable to use. Sure they wear in after a while and your fingers get used to it, but IMO you shouldnt have to 'get used' to a set of strings everytime you change them. One of the reasons I've settled on La Bella Stainless Steels. Great feel and sound right out of the packet. Plus, look demon with black silk at the headstock end. Truckstop
  23. Cooooooooool! Very nice, very evocative for me. Truckstop
