1. I sure hope you remembered to keep a log of all the measurements judging by the response you've got! Anyway, I think it's Lilywhite! Fancy making me one and embossing a spurs badge on it for me? Truckstop
2. Oh my good god that's unbelievably sexy! I've PM'd! Truckstop
3. Bump for amended trade list! Cheers Alex
4. Oh that's a shame I've played there a few times and I always liked that it was one of the few pub venues that actually had a decent size green room! Truckstop
5. I'll echo the 'you're using an Ashdown' comment. They have their 'own sound' and personally I've yet to use an Ashdown (never tried a LB though) that I've liked at all. Maybe try some other amps before considering moving your bass on? You've said you like playing it and it's already been set-up so maybe that could be the answer? If you're anywhere near St. Albans, you're more than welcome to come by and try my Ampeg shizzle! Truckstop
6. I will say the Ampeg PF-350/500's have loud fans so you can take them off your 'to-try' list! Truckstop
7. Someone will provide a link soon, but basically, someone paid money for a bassthat was advertised and they guy didn't send it on to him. In a nutshell, the dude got fleeced out of £x. So, he came on the forum and said "can anyone help?" and because we have an amazing community here, we were able to find out the guys address, his place of work and we ended up getting in contact with the guys mother and eventually we pressured him into sending the bass on. There's a few lawyers/solicitors/coppers on here too all offering excellent advice. Personally, I'm happy to trade with anyone who provides a verifiable address and a phone number (if I'm not already convinced of their integrity). The logistics of a trade deal can sometimes cause a little hassle, but if you can work it out it can be an excellent way of trying out new basses without shelling out everytime. Truckstop
8. Try a Gramma Pad. Might help a little? About £45 and if it doesnt help you can sell it on here and recoup most of your cash. Honestly though, if you think a Firebass 700 didnt go low enough, I think you have/are after a terrible bass tone and I don't think any accessories will/would save it from being a horrid muddy swampy mess. I think if you can't get a usable sound out of your current rig (and at a loud enough volume) you need to seriously rethink how you and your guitarist are EQing things. I'd also echo someone elses comments that you should get your ears checked. You'd be surprised how poor hearing can colour your bass tone. I know, I've been deaf all my life and didnt realise how much worse it was getting after spending 5 years exposed to high volumes without earplugs. Got some hearing aids and now I can hear the full range my bass rig has to offer and I've improved it no end! The same EQ I used 2 years ago sounds dreadful to me now. Truckstop
9. How sad is it that these days I can't even afford to spend £35 on stuff I suppose it's for a good cause though, got confirmation for the wedding day this morning! September 4th 2014! Truckstop
10. Hello all, We all know how expensive a '51 P is and how expensive Foderas and Ritters are, but it got me to wondering what the absolute top of the range bass rig is? I'm not talking about celebrity or live rigs, I'm talking about a head and a cab that I could go out and buy right now (or order I suppose); new! I've heard of people spending £5k on a new bass, but never that much on a bass rig. Anyone got any ideas? Alex
11. Nice! Looks so much better than lacquer finishes in my opinion. Nice and sophisticated! Truckstop
12. I've seen this in the flesh and it really is quite special. Imagine a vintage Olympic White Fender P, but with Tokai on the headstock. The white has turned a lovely buttercream-y colour and it looks well mojo'd and well worn in. Plus, Lozz is like the best dude ever to deal with! Truckstop
13.
Oops, and in colour this time:-
He's got well wonky tits. Truckstop
14. Hello all, So here we have for sale or trade this beautiful BC Rich Eagle. It is an NJ model (Nagoya Japan) of which the serial dates it to 1984. I'm looking to shift it because it just doesnt have the sound that I look for in a bass anymore. It's a little too middy, a little too focused for me. I prefer nice deep rolling bass tones these days! I suppose I could swap out the pups, but I really dont want to mod this fine bass. It is all original as it is, and I feel like I would disrespect it by modding. It's very light, around 7lbs and sits very comfortably. No neckdive and thanks to the small body its handy if you fiddle with knobs a lot. It's quite hard to describe its tone; it's somewhere between a jazz bridge pup and a P pup, plenty of mids, quite throaty but not too aggressive sounding. It's actually not far off the Mark Hoppus Fender sig., probably thanks to the reverse P pick-up. Neck is slim, again very Jazz-like, but a tad wider than a standard jazz neck but not as chunky as a P neck. "THIS BIT IS IMPORTANT. FOCUS, PEOPLE. Shockwave previously imported this bass from the States, care of a rather heavy handed courier and from a chap who know little about packing, with a resultant neck break in transit. Rob had this professional repaired, including the finish on the painted neck. It makes it very hard for me to take shots (being under paint, and so on) but I want people to be aware." I would echo other owners' opinions that it is just a complete non-issue and that the neck is probably stronger than it was before! Right, here's the price: £170. I think this is a very good price so I'm not going to move on it at all I'm afraid. So there's a couple of trades I'm after; 8 Ohm cabs (No Trace or Ashdown) and P or PJ-style basses. Maybe a Boss RC-30 or a TC Electronic Helicon Voicelive/EHX Voicebox. Actually, try me. There's probably loads of stuff I havent thought of so just give me a shout with your thoughts. There's some pictures in this gallery here (photos wouldnt attach for some reason?): http://s106.photobuc...h%20NJ%20Eagle/ (More photos further down the thread too) I'm happy to meet/deliver + collect up to 150 miles away (I'm based in St. Albans) for a bit of cash and some tea. I am reluctant to send via courier, but I will if you are prepared to pay all delivery costs. It'll come with a new Spider molded style hardcase. Cheers Alex
15. You wouldnt need lacquer if you have enough patience to work through around 8-10 coats of oil (I prefer danish oil) and a couple coats of good quality wax. I would finish you bass like this: 1. Sand for a ridiculously long time working through various grades. A good rule of thumb is, when you've finished with a grade, spend the same amount of time with that grade again. Manufacturers like RIM and Shuker will spend days sanding their guitars. It makes a difference! 2. After sanding, apply a coat of oil (follow instructions) and leave for 6+ hours. Sand with a very high grade (300+), dust with compressed air and then apply more oil. Repeat this stage about 8 times. More if you want a deeper finish. Remember to sand inbetween each coat. 3. Leave for a few days and then apply a coat of wax and buff straight away. Leave for another couple of days and apply another coat of wax. Buff! Should look great by now! Here's one I did a couple of weeks ago: And that was just after the second coat of wax. Just remember to leave few days between each process to let everything settle down a bit. Hope this helps! 16.
Hi how old is the cab please? is this a USA model. Cheers Paul.
PM'd but I might aswell put the answers here aswell! 1. It's around 5-6 years old 2. It's USA built Cheers and bump for trades and shizzle Truckstop
17. 1200 valve watts?! I think I remember hearing that someone tried to build an amp that powerful in Chernobyl in the mid-80's. Truckstop
18. That looks quite nice to my eyes. Might have a cheeky bid! I especially love that they've used the Yamaha wheel logo. Adds a little mysticism! Truckstop
19. What's up? No-one likes Ampeg gear anymore? Quality, loud little 2x10 cab here with great classical styling. Certainly not the heaviest cab, and it comes with a cover! And I'll even deliver it! Bump! Alex
20. Anything that's red gets a big no from me. Also 7+ strings and multiple woods on the face of the bass (see Fodera Ying Yang and W&T Al Green as prominent examples). I also don't like bound and blocked necks or black hardware (black knobs are ok though). I also don't like short scale basses. Argh, I've just remembered that I hate hate hate pickups with large pole pieces (namely, Delanos! Other than that, pointy singlecut silly wood fretless basses are fair game when it comes to me! Truckstoo
21. Perhaps have a look at your technique? Not saying you're a bad player, just saying that a lot of people take decent playing technique for granted these days because they think they can just EQ any imperfections out. It's all in the fingers/plectrum! I also echo the 'upgrade the pickups' sentiments. Spend some money on some good pickups and you'll be amazed how much of a difference they can make. If you're used to playing your budget bass, persevere with it! At least if you buy new pickups and you're still unhappy, you can use them to upgrade any future purchase! Truckstop
22. I'm hoping that's what will happen to me soon! I do basic backing vocals in my covers band (luckily, mostly rock covers so no BV's needed, but some of the more pop tunes need harmonies) and although I seem to be able to harmonise without too much trouble, singing while playing bass is proving tricky and I lack power and substance in my voice. The band seem to think I sound ok, so I'll not worry about singing lessons anytime soon, I'm hoping I'll just sort myself out through experience! I'm a self-taught bassplayer, so why not vocals too? Truckstop
23. Back up for sale! I've seen something else I want to buy bump! Alex
24. Phwoar! Am I the only dude here that just loves the look of 80's Laney gear?! Looks so wick! Unfortunately I have no need for this and I know from bitter experience what happens when you end up on the search for the perfect rackmount rig! It destroys a man, I tell thee! Bump Alex
