Get ready, set, terrible

Hello all, Wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a delay that can do a really good 'slapback' type effect? I use the delay on my ME-20b for two things; slapback for the oldy kind of 'C'mon Everybody' and 'No Particular Place To Go' type of effect (I actually leave it on all the time now!) and occasionally for more rave-y covers ('Standing in the Way of Control', 'You've Got The Love' and 'Crazy' etc) I use a slower speed so that it sounds an electronic chuggy bass kind of sound. It's also handy having the volume pedal too so I can create swells for slower mid section parts. And they both sound great and have their own uses, but I'm looking for a delay that I can have on all the time so I dont have to keep faffing around playing with knobs all the time! Any ideas? Well nowadays of course it costs a bloody fortune to get stuff repaired! Back then if you got a chip in your neck or a tear in your tweed you'd know a handful of guys who could sort it out for a pack of smokes and a beer. Now, you need to send all your gear off or take it to a repair shop for days on end and pay a fortune for the privilege. Ie, it pays to keep your gear in good nick! Truckstop

Yep, to great effect for Zakk Wylde style riffage! I tend to use quite a lot of gain on my amp settings which helps and I push the tone to the max on the bass itself. While muting the string with my middle finger of my fretting hand above the pickup, I pluck the string with my forefinger while holding the note and behold! A glorious pinch harmonic. Took me a while to get the hang of it, you'll need to practice for a while to get em ringing nice and clear. Works best on 3rd, 5th, 7th and 12th but I can make it work on every fret up to about 18. To get ultra pronounced harmonics, bump up the treble and use some overdrive/fuzz etc. Truckstop

If you can handle 6 strings, you could do a lot worse than an RBXJM1. So versatile it's unbelievable. Ebony fretboard, interesting inlays, great pickups, stunning looks....selling mine is the only serious regret of my life Truckstop

Have you considered just moving to flats? I was called in to dep for a Motown covers group last year and rather than go for new pups or faff around teying to borrow a precision, I got some flats (La Bella Deep Talkin), restrung the blazer and it nailed the sound! Truckstop

If I ever bought a bass new (I doubt I'll ever be able to afford one) it will stay in a case and will be cherished and will be preserved. Film will stay on the pickguard, manufacturers stickers will stay where they are and case candy will stay in the case. Of course i'll take it out to play at home, but I'd never ever take it to gigs. There's a million perfectly acceptable basses out there to gig with! All my stuff is second hand and looks it. A few dents, a few stains and scrapes. Adds to the character! Truckstop

For the same money as an American Precision, you could get a Shuker P (no worries about massive waiting periods either, he usually has a few bodies and necks knocking about) or a top of the range G&L. Both of which are practically guaranteed to not suffer from those issues and share very similar aesthetics as a 'proper' Precision bass. I'm also throw out there that my Blazer has no deadspots or neck pocket issues and although it has a slightly ill fitting neck socket, there are no deadspots on my Encore either. I'd send it back straight away and demand a refund for the cost of the bass and the postage. I'd then spend the money on a Yamaha BB2024x. Truckstop
