Thanks for all your help everyone! No, I'll be using the same sound for both combos live; I was just messing about earlier! I haven't got a Y-cable but I'd be happy to buy one if I can't come up with a solution to this using the materials I already have. So we all think it'd be ok to use the effects send? Alex

Hello all, So I've ended up with two SWR Workingman's 10 combos (80w @ 8ohms, 100w @ 4ohms). I had originally planned to have just one combo and find a suitable 1x10 cab but couldn't find any and when the chance came to grab another combo, I thought "Why not?! Together I'll be louder than if I used a combo and a cab!". So, on the advice of BCers, I've plugged the instrument into the input of the first combo and then ran a line from the 'tuner out' to the instrument input of the second combo. Sounds great at lower volumes; I set one to be ultra-bassy and one to be sparkly. However I needed to see what it sounds like at gigging volume. So i turned them both up to about 10 o'clock each and the speaker of the second combo starts farting out at a volume much lower than what it's capable of! I swap the combos around and sure enough the speaker of the second combo (previously the first one) starts farting. On closer inspection, whichever combo is second in line seems to be quite louder than the first too. Why is this? And when I disconnected the combos, I played through them both in turn at pretty violent volume levels and they ran as smooth as butter. So, I guess I'm asking to see whether it's possible to link the combos in such a fashion that doesn't cause the speaker in the second combo to sound like it's breaking. Is it something to do with ohmage? The combos have the following sockets in the back; Tuner out Effect send Effect return Headphones Ext. Cab (8ohm) DI out And just a single instrument input in the top. Can anyone help? Alex

EBS 1x15 For Sale (Price drop £175 Includes P&P)
Here is my problem.. I have an ebs reidmar amp which is 4 ohm... Your cab doesnt have a horn in it which means i would need to use my 2 x 10 which is 8 ohms? how do i do it without dropping the ohm's anymore than 4? thanks ant
Actually, I've just read that through properly and I've realised you didnt mention a tweeter at all. But, however, I'm assuming you'd prefer to use the 1x15 with a 2x10 because you think that the 2x10 will supply the top end that you think the 1x15 will lack because it doesn't have a horn? That's all old hat. The whole 10" for high frequencies/15" for low frequencies is just completely wrong these days. An efficient 15" speaker will sound as bright as you like and a decent 10" speaker can go as low as 40hz easily. I think you'd be very surprised and happy with the range this cab is capable of. Just bought his SWR Workingmans 10 combo off him. The entire transaction went off without a hitch and he kept me updated when he was worried that the couriers were being a bit funny. As an aside, I couldn't be happier with the combo; it's been kept in great condition and it was absolutely sparkling when I received it. Many thanks! Would not hesitate to deal with again. Alex

In Ear Monitoring for Rehearsal and Gigs?
Truckstop replied to paulmcnamara's topic in Amps and Cabs
I bet you all need to turn down a little. Once you've done that then aspects of your sound that aret compatible together will start to become obvious. In my band, following advice from someone on here, we all turned down and noticed that the guitarist had a really bass heavy tone which didn't help at all. I introduced a bit of clank to my tone and now we sound great. Truckstop -

Your Reidmar will power this cab with every ounce of it's wattage rating (a good thing). You would NOT be able to use the Reidmar with this cab AND your 2x10 (a bad thing). The 8 ohm 2x10 draws only half of the power from the Reidmar; the 4 ohm 1x15 will draw ALL of the power from the Reidmar on it's own. At £175 this is a complete steal! If I were still using separates I'd grab it straight away! Truckstop -
And you can get even more money off it by saying it's broken! Truckstop

Yeah endsleigh are the worst. I used them for contents insurance when I first moved from home into a bedsit-type deal. Got all my stuff nicked out of my room and they wouldn't pay out because although my room was secured, the burglars got in through a housemates window and literally smashed my door in. They said that my room wasnt secured properly even though I had two locks on the door and an alarmed window with all sorts of burglar prevention measures attached to it. Ridiculous! I got the payout 4 years later. When it comes to protecting your gear when you're gigging, it's a case of just keeping an eye on everything as best you can. I never leave any bags or cases in my car while I'm gigging and I always try to leave my instrument somewhere difficult to get to; such as behind the drumkit or my rig. Truckstoo

Yeah that is quite sexy! I'm a sucker for gold hardware! Truckstop

IIRC the 765 is the five string version that the RBXJM1 was based on? If so, having owned the RBXJM, it's a cracking bass. One came up on eBay a while back and ended up selling for £160. Was gutted I didn't go for it May be quite heavy though? Truckstop

I just tap it and say 'yeah, it works'. Truckstop

GK Neo range cabs are awesome. Weirdly I've owned a 2x10 and a 1x15 but not the 1x12! Probably not as well built or as road-proof as, say, Aguilar, TC or Vanderkley etc, but for the money they're great cabs. Ultra light, ultra compact, they look good and as long as you don't make a habit of throwing them down the stairs all the time they'll last. Truckstop

Oh no, I don't care how much my items go for; I was just expressing disbelief that some people bother bidding such a small amount! Truckstop

I make between £600-£700 a month from music work. I can probably deduct 35% for expenses such as travel, gear/suit hire, food and drink etc. I play bass for a pub/functions band that gig at least twice a week and at the moment have no other work. However I do have contacts to try if I need something to tide me over but I doubt I'd ever make a living from it. It's difficult! The main problem being that most work comes about at the weekends when obviously you only get the opportunity to work for a couple of days. If you can find work in the week you're laughing! Truckstop

Well you'd get whichever set sounds and feels the best! Luckily for me I prefer the sound of worn in LaBella Stainless steels. I change them every 6 months or so. LaBellas tend to lose their sparkle fairly quickly which suits me just fine but then their tone stays consistent for a few months after. I also love their feel; nice and smooth. Strings are a funny old thing. The one thing that can change your tone the most and change your playing style the most too. You can have a P bass and an amp with the exact same settings all the time but just a different set of strings will change everything rather dramatically. Truckstop

So, I'm selling some stuff on eBay at the moment and it got me to thinking. I have something worth about £200 on £3.04 at the moment. Which means that someone has actually made a bid of £3.03. So someone's made a realistic bid of say £100 (I dunno, whatever) and the next highest bid is £3.03. Why bother? Do people honestly believe they'll win it? Or is there just loads of people out there that just bid on everything just for the perverse satisfaction of losing everytime? I don't understand! Whenever I've bid on something on eBay I've made a realistic offer (ie, as much as I think the item's worth) and left it at that. I don't think to myself "hmmm, a solid bid of 2p will win me this item." Weird. Truckstop

I once played a festival outdoors when it rained. I modified a mic stand to hold an umbrella over my rig and we just shielded the power points as sensibly as we could. Luckily it wasn't what I'd call "bad weather", it was just a few showers. But still made sure I used a wireless. I'm not daft! Truckstop
