1. Really really saddened by this. I've been a huge Deftones fan since I was 12 and Chi is the reason I took up bass. I just wanted to play his huge, anthemic, glorious lines. I wanted dreadlocks and I wanted a neckbeard too! Such a shame. Alex

3. Hello folks, Here for sale is a delicious MIJ Fender Mustang RI. Built in 1994/1995, this bass has been modded with EMG pups with a single volume control. I guess the previous owner liked the sound of the Mark Hoppus signature Jazz? As a result of the pup mods, the original pickguard has been replaced with a red tort one. Unfortunately I don't have the original pickguard or pups or controls. Anyway, it sounds great. With these pickups this instrument sounds the balls. It sounds huge, beefy, chunky and with a lovely air to it too. Given it's a short scale bass, its perfect for smaller people or perhaps kids wanting to learn and because of the smaller body size it weighs about 8lbs. It's in fairly decent nick. The neck's perfect, but there's a couple of dinks in the body. The largest of which is on the underside bout, the other couple too small to bother photgraphing. So the reason I'm selling up is very simple; I want another BB425x. Which is the only trade offer I'll consider incidentally. I've priced this for a quick sell; this is a Japanese made bass, extremely high quality with really decent pups. The reason I've kept the price low is because I agree that modifications lower the price of instruments and also taking into account the age and condition of the bass. No offers please! Collection from AL2 1AZ preferred but can post with an old Ritter gigbag I have lying around. Postage will be an extra £15 to mainland UK. 4. Well the issue is more working out whether the head is too powerful for the driver. In this case, yes. But only if the guy decides to use all the available power from the amp. Doesn't matter how efficient a speaker is; if too much power is pushing it, it will blow up. Truckstop
5. Yes it'll be fine. He'll never reach the sort of volumes required to make the speakers fart noticeably! Assuming this dude runs the amp at half power (I don't think I've ever turned anything up that loud!) both cabs will be receiving about 125-150w. Each speaker in the cab (rated at 100w each) will be receiving 50-75w each so they'll be quite safe. Truckstop
6. God I wish I had £750 to spend on a new rig! I'd get a second hand Ampeg PF-500 and a Barefaced Compact. I'd rather have excellent quality cabs than anything else so if I could be bothered with the weight, I'd find a Peavey Firebass 700 for £100 and blow the rest of the money on a couple of EBS neo112's or a pair of Aguilar DB112's. If you like your B3, why not buy a power amp (decent ones can be got for £150) and spend the rest on awesome cabs? Truckstop
7. Or flames!!! Truckstop
8. Hello all, Moving on this lovely instrument as it's surplus to requirements at the moment and I've realised I'm more of a traditional pick-guardy, J/P kind of guy! Sort of a metallic Gun-Metal Grey colour, looks awesome! This is basically brand new. Not a single mark on it. As in 99.99% 'as it left the factory' condition. I've subtracted the 0.01% because there might be some dust on it. I bought it from GAK two weeks ago and I've hardly touched it since. It was a complete impulse buy and I've realised that active instruments with a long scale length and 24 frets just arent useful to me anymore and don't suit my playing style anymore. Which is a shame because it's actually a really decent bass. The B-105 is a step up from the most basic B-55 and features ESP soapbars and electronics. I found the controls intuitive and very responsive; the bass control in particular produces some serious low-end. Room shaking stuff! The treble I found to be a little clanky rather than airy. Pickup-blend knob and master volume complete the four controls. It's not a lightweight instrument, but not heavy either; bathroom scales say as near as 10lbs. On the strap its very comfortable with easy access to the first fret. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-b-105-gsb-gun-smoke-blue-5-string/40017 Tonally I would say that it has a very modern sound; articulate with really pronounced mids. Bridge pup has a nice Jazz growl to it, neck pick-up very thumpy. Fit and finish is excellent, no sharp fret-edges, no blemishes in the finish, no set-up issues etc. The machine heads are of outstanding quality, as is the bridge; a very heavy duty, hi-mass type. A very good entry level 5er. Could do a lot worse for the same price as a second-hand Squier. Collection from AL2 1AZ preferred but delivery possible as I still have the GAK packaging. Delivery will be £15 to UK mainland, overseas we'll need to get some quotes together! Payment by Paypal, bank transfer or cash on collection. *see 4th post for trade options* Here's some pictures: Many thanks, Alex
9. I used a Mexican Jazz 5 for a couple of years and I loved it! Good build quality, sounds fine and looks the nuts. Neck was comfy for me, weight wasn't too bad and only cost £300. Definitely try before you buy though (as with any instrument). Truckstop
10. Went for a Yamaha BB424x (Oly White) to try it with instead! If I'm comfortable with it, I may well end up moving my 425x on! Truckstop
11. +1 to whoever said "get a Peavey TVX cab". Yeah they're heavy, but they're cheap, they're indestructible, sound great, there's loads of them about so you can expand your rig whenever you feel like it and they look doom. You'll also be able to sell it on for the same money in a few years because it'll still be in exactly the same condition! Other worthy mentions are Ashdown ABM cabs and the aforementioned SWR Goliath cabs. Go for a 4x10 if you can, I think a lot of people prefer them. They simply move more it and go louder (or can increase perceived volume over a 1x15). We all want matching rigs, but sometimes other brands just do stuff better. Truckstop
12. Cool, cheers guys! I guess any well constructed instrument should be able to deal with it well. I suddenly remembered that years and years ago I use a Stagg something-or-other and I tuned that to BADG and it handled the B admirably. Alex
13. Hello all, Just curious really. Anyone tried dropping a Squier or MIM Fender J or P to BEAD? I like the idea of it and want to see if it's worth trying. I'd try it with my Mustang but not sure it'd work very well Cheers Truckstop
14. Yeah it's so annoying that I'm not anywhere near to come and collect this! I'm looking at gear for a rehearsal room and Tayste's disaster has shown that it's not wise to use your full rig to kit out your rehearsal space. I'm waiting for something like this to turn up (at this price!) near me! Hope this shifts soon! Alex
15. It takes a while for a group to work put it's natural volume dynamic. After you've all played with each other a few more times and you start developing your sound and your feel as a group, the volume will naturally lower in order for the louder parts to have more power and the quieter parts to develop more tension. Personally I wouldn't worry about it at all. At least not until 3 or 4 months down the road! Truckstop
16. I bought one before easter, stoves yesterday and I've hardly been able to stop playing with it. Sounds so effortless and it does exactly what you want it to! Plenty of dirt or just a little grind. Looks awesome too! £49 seems a right bargain. Alex
17. Ooh, that is sexy! Not sure on the headstock, but the body shape is gorgeous! You must be very proud! Truckstop
18. Was the RB700 really that heavy that you couldn't deal with it anymore? Man up! I'm with WoT on this one, big amps with proper power stages sound bigger. I have an Ampeg PF-350 and a GK MB200 for when I need something small and light, but the MAJ goes with me whenever I can take it! Truckstop
19. I heartily recommend the PF-350/500 amps. They're awesome! Loads of bells and whistles and classic Ampeg tone. Haven't tried the Micro SVT but really want to. Shops are selling the head and matching cab for around £400 brand new. Truckstop
20. Use a cheapo bass? Truckstop
21.
Be honest, you bought it so you could brag about the size of your Koch, didn't you?
Whatever do you mean?! Alex
22. Spec-wise I've always thought that the Fender Rumble series looked pretty good. I just think they look a bit naff aestheically speaking. The bottom of the range guitar combos that Fender make (Mustangs etc) look great; why not the same motif for the bass series? I like the look of the TV range, but £600+?! No thanks! Truckstop
23. Yeah I wouldn't say that my Mustang weighsess than any other particularly light bass I've owned before. If you're dead set on staying in the Fender family, then I would re-think because this is your health we're talking about! If one day I simply had to use a Steinberger in order to save my back/shoulders/whatever, I would. Without hesitation! As suggested, the Nanyo Bass Collections are as light as a feather and balanced really well so you don't need to reach too far to get to the lest fret. Yamaha RBXs and Ibanez GIOs tend to be quite light also; swap out the electrics and you've got a great bass at your disposal. Also, have you tried wearing your bass higher? It'll help with your posture and decrease the stress on your left shoulder/wrist. Truckstop
24. Rushbo has dibs!
