There's loads of cover bands out there that only need maybe 250-300w a side for vocals and keys and it just seems silly that even the really low powered PA amps seem to be ultra-heavy and need to be fitted in a rack case. It's not like power amps need to have more than 2 knobs on the front and 4 sockets in the back (2 Speakon, 2 jack) and a power supply. If the guts of something like the GK MB Fusion can fit inside a box the size of a Mac Air why can't someone design a similar size power amp? I'd buy one! I only need 300w a side. My mixer is one of those tiny 5 channel Mackie doodads and it looks silly perched on top of my PV1500! If I could get a power amp the size of a TC Electronics RH750 that'd be amazing! Truckstop

The thing is when the temperature affects the moisture in the wood that was used to build the bass. Basses these days are designed to be as stable as possible. A bass of any sort of decent quality will be constructed of well aged wood which will have a lower moisture content than poorer quality wood. I'd only ever be worried about stuff like this if my bass was a cheap beater made of balsa wood. Truckstop

Hello all, So obviously there's loads of very powerful micro bass heads around (Markbass, TC, GK etc) but I can't see any micro PA power amps around. Why is that? It'd be really handy to have a very small power amp that fits in a laptop bag rather than a rack case or suchlike! Alex

Hello all, Looking for a drummer between 18-35 for a pop/rock covers band based in St. Albans, Herts but gigs up to 50 miles away. Band is a 3-piece with a reggae-ish/rockish approach to songs. Backing box handy but not essential. This is a new band so final set list yet to be compiled and rehearsed, suggestions welcome. We'll be playing music that charted highly, music that is bang up to date as well as some golden classics. PM for a list of music that the guitarist and I have been working on. The end game is functions and weddings. We have contacts in various places and good earning potential can be had. We're looking for a drummer that's influenced by the modern Harvard School of Music style - ultra tight, clean and rhythmic. Tight drum sound also gets points - we don't want giant boomy 24" bass drums and floor toms that you could hide a child in. Small drums, fast hands and clockwork precision! Because we're a 3 piece we want complex beats, loads of frills and loads of showboating. Don't want a plodder, 'less is more' kind of person! Want to get gigging by October ready for big payers over xmas 2013 and spring/summer 2014. Get in touch here or via email at: [email protected] or if you know someone that might be interested please put us in touch. Alex and Phil

I don't think I've ever run a cab anywhere near it's specified limits. I never look at the texhnical specs! I only check the ohmage and if it doesn't go loud enough for me then I'll sell it and get something else! Truckstop

Yes I have a copy of the Japanese issue album - loads of special content! The version of Homeless is gorgeous. Just Paul, and acoustic guitar and the band leader of Ladysmith. Gorgeous! Truckstop -
I also love the design Alpher have come up with. So much so that I also got a quote put together for a custom build too, but unfortunately wedding and stuff meant that it's too rich for me at the moment! Good luck with the build and I'm looking forward to seeing the final product! Alex

Just because the dude's ended up with loads of money that he's had to work for all his life doesnt mean that he should be giving away stuff that's worth that sort of money! It's his property now and he's made it perfectly clear that if a member of the Pastorious family wants to buy it back then they can. Can't get much fairer than that if you were in his position! First Gig coming up, what shall I wear other than clean pants
Truckstop replied to basskit_case's topic in General Discussion
If you're not wearing at least one hat you're doing life wrong. More helpfully, I'd suggest a pair of decent fit dark jeans and a dark button-down shirt (long sleeves. Short sleeves always look horrid). Truckstop -
I've got a '97 Skoda Felicia with the back seats taken out. It's just the right width for basses and I can fit a f***tonne of gear in it! The seats just bolt in again if I need to cart more people around. I got given the car for nothing and I think I've spent £170 on it in 3 years (do repairs myself, see). That's the way to go! When I replace it I'll be looking for another banger to run into the ground. I like the idea of have a vehicle that pays for itself after a few gigs. Might not be glamorous but it works! Truckstop

I had the same problem with an RBXJM1. Turned out to be a preamp issue and ended up costing quite a lot of money (for the person that bought it off me!). Sorry Truckstop

Yeah get rid of em all. f*** it. They're only 'things' aren't they? Easily replaceable and you'll end up trying other basses that you never thought you ever would before! Get a BB2025 or a Dingwall. Go mental! Truckstop

Leave it for a week or two. Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Maybe swap some of your gear around? Truckstop

I play at least two 2 hour sets a week plus about 6 hours worth of light playing (rehearsals/practice etc) in the week. I change the strings (LaBella Stainless Steels if anyone cares) annually along with a truss rod tweak and any other work that might need doing. Normally in the spring time when the temperature starts to rise a little bit. I give the instrument a little clean with some polish, clean the fretboard with some lemon oil, spray the insides with some switch cleaner, oil any moving parts and generally take care of it! I haven't broken a string for about 7 years and if I ever did I'd change the set straight away. Truckstop

I happily use lights designed for tripod use on the floor all the time! I have some flood lights that won't fit on the tripods I have already (too many lights!) so I put them on the floor with no trouble at all. KAM make some great low-cost LED RBGW par-cans that you can buy individually and you can invert the mounting clamp to lean them at the required angle on the floor. I got four for £65 at whybuynew.co.uk. Truckstop

What music did you or your wife walk down the ailse to?
Truckstop replied to FuNkShUi's topic in General Discussion
Not married yet (a whole month to go!) and we've decided on 'One Day Like This' by Elbow for Mrs. T to walk down the aisle to and then we have 'It Must Be Love' by Madness! Can't wait, gonna be awesome! Truckstop -
Just went to Watford to collect the speaker poles and mic stands he had for sale and was very happy with the transaction. Instant comms and a good dude! Deal with confidence! Alex

I've found that people will try for a trade regardless of whether the seller's put 'no trades' in the ad or not. Hell, I've tried it a few times! Mainly because I really want the item and havent got enough money at the time. It's always worth a try, right? Vis a vis that dude that keeps bothering you with trade offers, by now I'd have told him to 'go away' and then after he'd done that 'go away' again. Truckstop
