1.
I'd love to know where you can pick one up for that price.
I got lucky on eBay for one of mine. Turned out to be a bit of a money pit and sold it on after giving it a clean and swapping the electronics out. At a loss unfortunately Truckstop
2. A good Musicmaster is a wonderful thing! You will be able to pick them up from £350. A common mod is to swap out the strat pickup and fit a hot rail so that you can get an even response over all the strings. They have a terrific sound, almost like an acoustic bass but with more definition. Sort of like playing a regular bass unamplified. Mustangs are also worth a shout but have a completely different sound. Very chunky and mid-heavy. The Japanese re-issues are awesome. You may also be able to find a Bullet. Essentially a Musicmaster but made in the 80's with a little more care and attention paid in the design and build processes. Proper split coil and better build quality. As always, try before you buy! Alex
3. Anyone looking for a tour grade head could do much much worse than this. The GK RB series heads sound awesome, are ultra flexible and offer all the bells and whistles of other similar amps from other manufacturers but at half the price! If I ever needed a big rig one of these is exactly where I'd start! GLWTS Alex
4. It's about £250 too much I think. I don't think I've ever seen one that expensive! Most seem to go for around £400-£600 depending on condition and case/candy. Maybe some especially good examples could be worth £700-£750 but that's at the real high end. It'd have to be in perfect condition, unplayed, original case and candy AND a decent player. Most Musicmasters I've played have been pretty bad instruments. Great tone, but horrid to play and cheap feeling. I've owned two and played maybe another half dozen and there's only one of them that I wish I owned! Sorry mate, but I think you could do better if you held on for a while! Alex
5. Ha ha "also, there is one string missing." Truckstop
6. Unfortunately can't really offer anything constructive on the recording itself other than to say that I'm confident that I'm hearing everything you want me to hear at the correct level! You'd need someone like 5imon to do an appraisal on the axtual recording! Anyway, enjoyed the album very much. Nice summery vibes and an upbeat kind of feel to the songs. Slightly wish I could understand the lyrics, but adds a little mystery to the songs and makes me pay more attention to how the singing is constructed around the songs. Loved it! Truckstop
7. How much?! Truckstop
8. The X Factor is not just a talent show. It's a show that offers a serious financial and personal reward to whomever wins (and often the final 10!). Why should it be that some 16year old sod from wherever should be able to bypass all the years of hard work and sweat and tears that everyone else has to put in and, in all likelyhood, will make enough money to live off for the rest of their lives? It's complete horseshit. I appreciate that it's just some Saturday night entertainment. I appreciate that, in a real sense, only a few select people actually do quite well for themselves out of it. But it just makes me feel sick. The only reason people that enter this competition is because they're under the impression that they can work for a few years and then retire to a life of luxury and gameshow appearances. It makes a complete mockery of all the working people in this country who have to work all their lives for a percentage of what these guys get given. I've said it before and I'll say it again; horseshit. Alex
9. Your parents bought it for you. It's your possession; do with it what you will! Truckstop
10. Ha ha love the Gibson transfer!! Truckstop
11. There's loads of rhythm and blues/rock n roll standards that will stand up well to a more vigorous approach: See You Later Alligator - Dr. Feelgood Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis Red Hot - Brian Setzer ...are a few that spring to mind. Truckstop
12. Ash is selling an SWR Workingman's 10 on this forum for just over £100. You should buy it! It's got all the functionality of a big time pro head but in a tiny package. I use mine at home, rehearsals and gigs. They go seriously loud. Not just loud for a 10" combo; I mean loud outright! Great SWR build quality and tone. Can't go wrong! Truckstop
13. Awesome, looks like a great project! Here's hoping the neck turns out ok. Truckstop
14. That looks awesome and I really want it/one! Truckstop
15. I prefer Danish oil. It's fairly cheap and simple to apply. You won't need to bleach the wood, but you will need to make sure that you've got rid of any primers that may have been applied before the old finish was painted on. You really need bare wood to get the best results. To build up colour, all you need to do is have lots of patience and apply many many coats of oil. I would apply at least 6 as a matter of course. Apply a coat, leave overnight/24hrs, light sand with wet and dry paper and then apply another coat. Keep going until you've done at least 6. After that, it's a case of building up until you've sort of got the colour you want. After you've left it for a week or so, use some beeswax and wax the bass a few times, buffing inbetween coats and leaving for at least 24 hours between coats. I'd say at least 5 coats of wax. This will give you loads of colour and a really lush looking finish! Have patience and apply the whole finish slowly and methodically over a period of a few weeks. It'll be well worth it. Good luck! Alex
16. To be honest, not a massive amount of money unfortunately. It's good you have the original pup, but even then I'd say you'd be lucky to get £250 for it. The best part of a Blazer is the big brass bridge! Truckstop
17. I used to have one of these and they pack a serious for their size! Obviously you'll never get the spread that you expect from more or larger speakers but it'll handle small gigs no problem at all. Lightweight, excellent build quality and the thing I like most about it is that a standard rackcase fits perfectly on top so your amp won't look comically huge against it! If I had the cash or decent tradebait I'd be all over this like a rash. I really regret selling mine on and this cab would be perfect for my needs right now. Oh well Truckstop
18. Yeah don't do it mate. Either get it done professionally or just leave it and learn to deal with the sunburst. Honestly, just don't bother. Truckstop
19. See, I know they're excellent basses but I think they look a bit rubbish. I'm just so unattracted to them even though I know its worth every penny of £125! Good luck with the sale, I'm sure someone will snap it up! Truckstop
20. Stick your fingers in your ears. Truckstop
21. I have two Workingmans 10's combos and they've not missed a beat for over 20 years. I've only had them for a few months but bought them off people that had had them from new with no issues at all. All SWR stuff I've ever seen has been built incredibly well and is very heavy duty. If I were looking to upgrade my set-up, I would happily go for SWR Workingmans range again because I gig 2 or 3 times a week and need something reliable. Hope this helps! Alex
22. Unsold! Could do worse than to get in touch with the seller and work something out. Truckstop
23. Hello, Thought someone might like to nab this. Looks bargainous! http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=231033744862# Truckstop
24. Yamaha BB1024(x)? Vintage passive tones by the bucketload, looks lovely and cracking build quality. Second hand costs maybe £500-600. Truckstop
