Usual Pub gig for us.. Thought we played fairly well, a few up dancing and also got some nice comments and another booking. I had the Star bass out for the first time live and loved what it gave me
-
I'll agree with Kev and say a lot of it has to do with playability and vibe. I had a Streamer that I bought new in 89, it was a nice bass and I played it exclusively for over 20 years. Just now I just picked up a new Warwick star bass (mik) and it's every bit as nice fit and finish as the old Streamer was. Thats been Warwick for me. Then no other Fender P I have played compares to the feel of my 1970, great neck, nice weight and full of mojo... The same for my pre-eb Ray.. it has that something in vibe and playability and sound for me that the post EB's don't..or at least the ones I have tried don't. When you get hold of THE right bass you will know it ! be it vintage or new, It's a choice we are free to make. Enjoy the ride it's fun.

yes a fretless with a touch of chorus to my ear. I'm not sure when Sting started doing it in the police but I read that on recordings he often double tracked his bass parts with blended electric and stand-up. Where's our fatSting man when you need him?
-
Just took my recently purchased pre-eb Ray to my luthier to get a once over and set-up done.. and he said it's one of the nicest necks he has ever seen on a bass and he should know he's been building them for the past 40 years

Flats on a P, Blimey! What about on a 'ray?
Highfox replied to stingraybassman's topic in Bass Guitars
So which flats have you used and what size. Thinking of putting them on my MM SUB
I had an unused set of Roto 77's 45-105..lying around so stuck them on there, they are a bit high tension for my liking, but sound pretty good. I have my stock Fender 45-100 steel flats here as well, which I think will go back on. -

I have flats on my Ray. Sometimes too clanky with rounds -
Battered half to death with a rhythm stick!

Yes, it's one of those you need a bit of stamina and strength to get through. That's one of the things that amazed me watching Norman up close just recently.. The strength and power he has to be on the go the whole time for close to a couple of hours. Not bad for 64, He never seems to sit on the route notes for very long lol. Even during the soundcheck he was non-stop doodling, like some kind of machine. -
Ramp up the sensitivity a couple of notches for that passive p-bass! Quack-Quack!!
Thanks, I'll try it. The sensitivity is one of the things I really like with this pedal, you can dig in and quack it, or lay back and be subtle. I'm really liking the Catalinbread SFT that I just bought for the same reasons.
haha! ... maximum quack!
I'll give them a try as well. Thanks for the tip.
so the basses (and guitars) that I play most regularly are out on a variety of floor stands ready to be used. The ones that I don't currently play are stored in their cases.
That's me as well The basses I use for gigs and practice normally stay in their case's and my home practice basses are mainly on stands in the mancave

They wear in quite nicely. No sticker then the Roto's when new. I think gauge plays a big part in the tension/feel you might be looking for as well. Took me a while to grasp that and a lot of money in the process experimenting.
-
yep, Fender flats on all my flatwound basses, 45-100 are great for me.
-
Interesting, I just bought the Catalinbread SFT to try and get that subtle overdrive that won't lose the low end. I really wanted something switchable as well. It sounds good at home so far, will be able to test it properly on Friday at practice.

Sleepless night - I`ve quit two of my bands!
Highfox replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
Well done on following through with your gut feeling.. it's hard to be honest and walk-away sometimes.(I'm there right now) It's hard when you feel all the work might of been wasted. I'm sure in the long run the bands will appreciate your honesty. Sounds like it will free up some of your time should the right project come along. -
Any advice re. EQ settings on TH 500
Many ways to skin a cat, but This gets me close through a pair of Aggie 112's, near enough the same through the Neo212. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90499974/TH500.jpg
Hope I do. If the Streamliner was available through Thomann I would probably order both, compare and keep the preferred amp. Any idea what Bassdirect are like with returns?. What cab did you use to compare the TH 500 and Streamliner ? Thanks
Once you work out how to use the EQ on the TH500, I don't think you'll have to worry about sending it back ..spelling lol

Did the Clash ever mime? Wasn't it JJ cale that said I'm a Musician not an actor and refused to mime to anything (not sure about the videos lol) Flea and the Chilis have done enough good things for music.. maybe it was fun for them to do it that way.. I'm not knocking them As has been said they have proved they can do it live, so who really cares that much. edit: sorry I haven't read all this thread .

Harley Benton 'Kahuna' Basses (Kala U-Bass ripoff)
Highfox replied to dannybuoy's topic in Bass Guitars
Oh no! Now I want one of these. -
I don't know, it seems to be one, then I'll pick up another and .. like what happened to me last week, was doing some recording and thought the Jazz with rounds might suit that (I hadn't used it for nearly 6 months) Been flats on the P for a while, then bingo what a sound and feel it gave me the confidence to add a bit more to the tune. I love them all at different times! Honeymoon period with the Star bass atm as well
-
I have tried both through the same cab as well as the Shuttle, I still use the shuttle and the Th500 and got rid of the Streamliner. They are all good in slightly different ways imo.

Does anyone video record their gigs and what do they use?
Highfox replied to Harry's topic in General Discussion
I use the Zoom 2hd as well.. video quality isn't that great but as you said the sound can be decent. I have found most newish DSLR cameras cope quite well with audio/ some even have a line-in, video quality is pretty good as well. Bit bulkier than the Zoom but they can do a good job. -
There's one thing playing the songs note perfect.. Then there is working on the dynamics and performance imo.
Sorry, I'm not that up on my Warwicks, but what model is this, cheers.
Hi. It's the Star bass, not the German made but Korean pro.

Lots of choices there. I run Aguilar GS 112's and very happy with them.
