1. Original owner learned to play while obese, then lost lots of weight but couldn't adapt their style?
2. Tasty!
3. Not very. When I was in a band we used to practise without microphone quite a lot. Kept us from volume wars.
4. I'd go with ergonomics, personally. I do like that stealthy scratchplate
5. The only really good-looking Fender, IMO. :ducks and covers:
6. The pup is a bit weedy, which I always find surprising. Sound-wise it's a P-bass with a bit more twang and authority, at least to my ear. It weighs a lot, BTW.
7. This http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-Standard-bass-3504-in-great-condition-complete-with-original-Vox-bag-/181692708861?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4dbab7fd is probably £50 overpriced, but if you like big chunky necks these are fine. (I don't, and mine is not for sale!)
8. If you can find a Peavey Foundation, they seem to go for about £170. Lovely lovely basses.
9.
Where are you based? Huw
He's in Tavistock, in Devon. (I assume you're on a mobile? Well-known BC issue, member titles are not visible on mobiles.)
10.
I just thought it bizarre that on pages 1, 2 and 3 they extolling the virtue and importance of music education, then page 4 they basically state what they think by mentioning the decreasing budgets.
They think it's a good thing, so they're restricting it to those who can pay for it. Like lots of other stuff. Private education and private health care, to name but two.
11. Are you playing stuff you like with it?
12.
My other sub-£200 bargain buy recently was a Danelectro Longhorn. Uber-cool querky looks - not everybodies cup of tea perhaps - and an amazing range of tones. Featherlight and shortscale, I could comfortably play it for hours on end! There's a passable Jazz bass sound waiting to come out but also a rather unique Danelectro tone in the sweet spot that I just love. I gigged with it on Friday for the first time and, unusually, had people come up to me afterwards asking about it.
Whoa, you got a Longhorn for less than £200?! Congratulations! :jealous:
13.
The Dennis Wick ones are great, well designed and not too expensive. My main B-trom mute has been all around the world and never had a problem!
Excellent. Thank you very much
14.
I don't understand how the Bass Collection logo and the rest of the print on the control cavity cover have rubbed off but not the white sticker on it. My Bass Collection is bashed to hell but the print on the pickups and cover are still there.
This is why I suggested a non-Japanese build. I have one like this, and it's quite clear that the electrics cover has never been printed.
15. What's the width at the nut, please?
16. Doesn't appear to be MIJ (nor does the seller claim it is); perhaps one of the prototypes for the move to production elsewhere?
17.
I've seen a few nice looking Peavey and Yamaha basses for less than £200 or so.
Yes, and there are a couple of Yamahas for under £150 out there at the moment. I was just confused by your thread title - I thought you were trying to say "between 200 and 750".
18. erm, less than £200?
19. Oops, my finger slipped... Delivery some time next week. I should probably buy a mute, as well. Any recommendations?
