1. Did I post this in the JapCrap thread? Might be the same one?
2. One of a kind... number 002.
3. Thanks for posting. Sadly I'm not in the market for one - I can't be doing with that rectangular control plate, it just looks all wrong to me.
4. I have an Ibanez SR300 (super thin neck and all) tuned BEAD. Works fine. But I have no use for it
5. That's got to be heavy...
6. I got thin superglue from a model shop. It's thin enough that it will run into a crack.
7. The pBone is very tempting...
8. I had one of these. Keep an eye on the bridge screws; you might find they lift. (Or it might have been the previous owner... transaction was a little problematic ) And, £215 with a hard case? That looks like a good deal to me.
9. Had a guitarist leave over tunings. We should have chosen our songs more carefully.
10. Did anyone suggest Motorhead yet?
11. Oooooh... Way, way out of my range, but what a beast!
12. I can't get there to nab it, and I haven't got a double bass anyway... but it would be a shame to see it dumped. So, bump!
13. I can't see the lottery win making any difference, TBH...
14. Is a Fury V a five-string? Very confusing, because there's a Fury and a Fury 2... which is definitely not a two-string
15.
So the whole gigged and road worn look (faux or not) isnt a 'thing' in the way it is with electric bass. I'm guessing that if I pulled out an instrument from the 60s nobody would bat an eye if it looked as though it had been thrown off a cliff, whereas an antique Cello would still be 99% of original condition
Yes, and also cellists tend to be in classical groups rather than bands. Classical ensembles do not do "roadworn"...
16. Thanks to you all. I'll go look in the Recording Forum
17. Nice work. Not to do with lurksalot, but I think someone should go listen to "Seeing It as You Really Are", off the first Hawkwind album. I'm sure that's about a train journey
18.
There is a downside to that. If he cracks and accepts the offer, one of you will end up owning it!
Careful courier selection should allow the buyer to avoid that possibility
19. The problem with an acoustic instrument is that bashes and bumps may damage the soundbox, and they might also reduce the strength of the instrument. Double basses are glued together; anything which cracks the glue... you can wind up with a pile of splinters. (I know this because I own a cello. It still works but it's been pegged and glued, and glued, and glued )
20.
Just got tracking info for my new PB-20 6.22kg that's nearly a stone in old money... Is that an average weight for a bass? the JB-75 was 5kg, for some reason I thought the P bass would be lighter.
That will be with the packaging (I hope!). I'd guess the P will be about the same weight as the J. 5kg is maybe a touch above average? It's not unusual.
21.
Ta very much; that's encouraging..! It's easier in winter-time, what with the nights being longer an' all..! I have to give what's left of a brain a rest between entries, though; it's necessary to clear the ears before taking on the next one. Still, at a pace of one or two a day; I'll get 'em all done in time (I hope..! )
Completely agree with Mornats
22.
I don't suppose you'd care to elaborate on that, would you..? Any aspect in particular..? Is it any different to hearing stuff on the radio..? Just curious, that's all, and intrigued, as, for my part, they have rather the opposite, stimulating effect. To each his own, of course; we're all different.
It just emphasises how far I have to go, and how little I understand. I think the difference between this and the radio is that the radio insulates; those guys out there aren't real people, in some way. The BC members are. A few years ago, when social media was a new thing, I was talking online to someone in San Francisco, and I had the same reaction then; SF isn't a real place to me, somehow.
