I’ve worked on doing the same Dave, low action, lighter touch and lighter gauge picks, all work towards my hands taking less of a battering when playing. I think joining my current non-gigging classic rock band has steered me this way, with my old technique & bass set up I wouldn’t have been able to play the songs.

Looks really nice

I’m 59 and up until a few years back yes I used to fret hard (and play hard, with fairly high action and high tension strings).
-
Providing the blend is on full I’d say Tech21 preamps all add in a lot of their own voicing when set flat.

Nice little amps and have a good rich tone to them.

I tried but the bass needed customs forms completing and despite several calls to HM Customs and Parcelforce asking for assistance as to what exactly was needed the only response was “look online”. So I didn’t get my bass. Quite why someone couldn’t have said “give me your e-mail address and I’ll send over the form you need to submit” is beyond me, but then having worked for a govt owned business for years maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.

Well I’ve spent the last year or so changing my technique on my fretting hand, always used to do the thumb-wrap over the neck and now arthritis has set in that hurts, so now trying to play with thumb straight on back of neck. Seems to have worked, something I’m rather pleased about.

Agree with the thoughts above, mod it, play and enjoy it, and def keep the original parts.

Just got home from my Spacewasters gig at The Hope & Anchor, Islington. 4 band bill, in an 80 capacity venue, luckily a dedicated storage area for gear. We headlined and played well, though it was soooooo hot down there, even setting up had us all sweating out half a stone. Didn’t bother with a soundcheck but the sound man was very good and kept the volume to reasonable levels. I played my black Fender JMJ Mustang into my Behringer BDI21, DI taken from that to FOH, and then into a small 100 watt Ashdown combo of some sorts for stage volume which was plenty. Due to my plantar fasciitis rather than DMs I wore my Skechers trainers. Edit - Review now online, in punktuationmag: The Spacewasters are approaching their 25th anniversary, and over the years, they’ve become really damn good musicians. Maybe that’s not a very punk thing to say, but as their guitarists sprinkle frenzied solo magic on the likes of ‘Leave Me Alone’ and ‘Devil’s Bones’, we have to be thankful that they’ve chosen to channel their talents not into tedious 20 minute jazz-prog suites, but into shit-kickin’ street-level punk rock n’ roll. Add the larger than life presence (and sense of humour) of frontman Mick, and you have a recipe for one hell of a good time. Check out their new album ‘The 7-Legged Groove Machine’, it does exactly what it says on the tin, and it does it very well.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Good Spacewasters rehearsal last night for a gig tonight at The Hope & Anchor, Islington. Lineup swap, our old guitarist standing in for one of the guitarists who’s on hols. Good sounds& playing tho have to admit I wasn’t keen on the supplied Orange bass combo, but it did its job. Also tried ear-plugs but couldn’t pitch my vocals with them in so compromised and just had one in the ear that faces the drums - it’s the cymbals that wreck ears! -
He has a bass like a childs drawing..................

Just ordered a copy of his book, am sure I’ll enjoy it

Too much boom boom drums, we’ll sack the monitor/IEM engineer. Too much overplaying, Rog, it’s The Who, you used to have Moon The Loon on the sticks!

Very sad

I really liked the colour of the butterscotch one in the vid, looks much better than in the photos. Agree there`s not much here that`s new, but maybe Fender are reacting to what people have said they prefer, they mentioned a redesigned/better preamp for example.

I’m not familiar with the material but great sound and great playing

Bill, it just shows how dumb the rest are 🤣 -
Tube power stage vs Class-D (effective power)

I think the thing is to a lot of us we just don`t have the understanding, most of the technical terms just go straight over my head. But fortunately we do have the three as mentioned above to give us the appropriate guidance. -
Why does Scott Devine hate Sadowsky basses?
Lozz196 replied to TheGhostofJaco's topic in Bass Guitars
Very good likeness there -
Whenever rattle is mentioned on Fender basses my first thoughts are the A string. Try pressing down on the string just before the tuning peg, if the rattle goes away it’s the string rattling due to the break angle. On non-US Fenders I put on a Hipshot triple string retainer for the A/D/G to remedy this.

Both look great, excellent bass and excellent amp, just a lovely set up

Just watching their 2019 set at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas on YouTube. Really good band on top form imo. -
I agree, steps onto stage may seem a small thing but it’s those small things when all put together just make gigging so much easier. Plug sockets where needed is another, as is - and prob more for originals bands - hooks on walls for you to display merchandise. Tiny little things but make things go smoother.
