If you don`t need all the bells & whistles of the SGT-DI then Ampegs SCR-DI is a good pedal, the drive can be set very low to the point where all it does is takes off the crisp clean part of the note, warming it up but with no noticeable drive. For a natural amp sound I find it better than the Sansamp.

That’s probably the best description of Elixirs. I love them, not quite as bright out of the packet but stay that way for almost a year.

Yep I use the Behringer XM8500, good mic at not much money, less mid focused than the SM58 so imo better suited for backing vocals than lead.

A few years ago I put a Badass bridge on a 51 Reissue Precision. To me it modernised the sound, emphasising the highs and tightening the lows. Not to a point where it would be noticeable in a band mix, just at home volumes. Anyway I swapped it back as it had taken away some of the character of the bass imo. Great piece of engineering, much easier to set up/intonate etc but ultimately not good on that bass.

Same here, just about the only time I’ve been thankful that my back is ruined so I can’t move gear like that about anymore.

My first bass was a Kay EB-0 type bass, not a very good instrument, am sure mine went into the local rubbish tip. Am equally sure that I really wish I’d kept hold of it.

That`s the feeling I get with my fave US Precision (and tbh pretty much all Precisions from the 2013-16 US Standards range) I just find when I`m playing it I`m totally immersed in the playing and in the moment, with my other basses although I enjoy playing them it`s not the same.

I saw a thing about The Sex Pistols on YouTube and their recording of Never Mind The Bollocks. Apparently the studio tried loads of different (and expensive) mics for Johnny Rotten, none worked, so they tried an SM58 and there it was, the sound wanted.

Sadly I have to agree. I say sadly, as the best Precision sound I’ve ever heard was my mates maple necked 70s Jazz bass with roundwound strings quite possibly as old as the bass. Put through his very reasonably priced Behringer set up it was immense. To my ears it was Precision/SVT/Rotosounds.

Hopefully you’ll like it Steve, I kept mine & moved on my Tech21 BDDI v2. Both got me the sound I want so made sense to keep the Behringer.

Yeah I like the sound of the Lytes but they’re just a bit too modern looking for me. Apparently Fender did a chambered US Professional Precision for Matt Freema of Rancid, that’s what I’d really like.

Fender Precision Light range to be introduced, all to be under 8lbs.

I’ve played a few gigs with just my bass into preamp/DI into PA, with monitor mix for the band. Works fine but I do prefer having the onstage sound from an amp behind me. Not tried IEM but fairly sure my preference will always be amp on stage.

Yeah those Rotos are like solid pieces of metal draped along the fretboard, a real workout. Can sound great, though I’ve never managed it (think they need a valve amp to get them to shine).

I’m hopeful it will be all of the stuff that I decide to sell once I no longer have any need for it. Not that I’m mercenary of course……

Hi Dave, aside from a few minor differences (from what I’ve read) on the sound the main difference between the DI & non-DI version is the DI can be used as both an effects pedal between bass & amp, and DI’d to FOH. You can also use it to do this without an amp.

Yeah I saw that (the first one) on Reverb, they have changed it as originally it was advertised as a US model, now it’s showing as having a US neck. I was going to message them as well but when I next checked it the change had been made.

Next up is Iron Maiden in June but just got ticket for Volbeat in November, very excited.

I love the sound of active basses, but only when someone else is playing them. I’m so used to a Precision type sound coming from basses I play that if I hear anything else it just sounds wrong, maybe that’s where you are as well Rob?

The Behringer BDI21 may well be your friend then Steve, it’s pretty much 90/95% the same only a tenth of the price.
