Ibanez ATK300 Review (the famous Stingray Killer?)
Lozz196 replied to Rib13Bass's topic in Bass Guitars
Very Stingray sounding, maybe ‘Ray experts could hear a difference but I can’t. -
So, just got in from rehearsal with my other band and again this little bass has both impressed and delivered. Sounded great in the mix (tho it’s still taking a bit of getting used to not hearing a Precision sound coming from my hands) and again much less fatigue on my back & shoulders afterwards. My only concern is how long I can hold out only having just one……..

Yep Bass Bros has a good reputation, but given how many scammers there are out there it’s always wise to do a bit of research such as this.
-
I’ve not but I’m local, it’s less than a Mike away from me, and Steve the guy who does the sound is a mate of mine.
-
Sounds good, agree Clint is doing a great job with Friars, which band are you in @Combed20?
-
Chilling before heading out for a 2pm rehearsal.

Hmmm, food for thought, I def preferred the Origin. I suppose there’s a lot of eq possibilities that can be explored on the Ampeg but to me it just seemed that the Origin fitted in with the mix much better every time.
-
I don’t know if it’s specifically his sound that I like, but it’s definitely his playing.

I’ve pretty much always done backing vox. Luckily in the music I do it’s generally quite easy but I have found that if the bass and the vocals are doing cross melodies then it’s time to make a choice, and for me it’s what’s more important to the song, keeping the bassline as written or dumbing it down to add backing vox. Usually I’ll go with the vocals as to be honest that’s what audiences listen to most, and plenty of backing vox on a chorus really lift it imo.

NBD: 1971 Precision... from Bermuda to Tyneside

Beautiful -
Spot on Tim, I read in a book about SLF that a video director wanted to shoot a certain type of film for their song as he thought it was about the end of a relationship. The song was about the collapse of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Cold War. Just shows how people can get the wrong idea.

Thanks chaps, much appreciated. Luckily I can still rehearse easy enough as all the gear is in the rehearsal studio, just a case of turning up & plugging in so not stopping playing, can still keep my hand in that way so to speak.
-
Thanks Chris but sadly it’s the whole package of gigging, not just the playing. If anything the playing is the part I find the easiest, it’s the carrying the gear (no matter how lightweight) the setting it up with plugging in leads, bending over amps/cabs connecting them up, routing cables for pedalboards along the floor etc.

I think you’re spot on there. Re ANWL and that song, I think from what I’ve read the intention was The Day The World Went Soft, but with the actual name chosen they made the 70s/80s schoolboy error of equating homosexuality to weakness. Luckily the punk scene now is very inclusive, all sorts of characters, all accepted for who they are. The only problems/intolerance seem to be from people outside it looking in & frowning/tutting, or people with extreme political views, these being both far right and far left.
-
I have to admit I’m not a fan of the song, though having spent some time in the company of ANWL I’ve never heard any of them express any homophobic views.

Truly terrible covers of the good and the great

It is pretty painful -
Stewardess survives Olympic ramming. I think a fair few people might get the wrong idea about that film.

Velcro for the amp would solve the first part, second, well no problem there that I can see 🤣

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

They look great -
So an update to this, sadly due to my back getting worse I’ve had to leave the band, the day after our last gig I could barely move. Am gutted, this band was a bucketload of fun, with guys I’ve known for years, I hate letting people down but my osteopath has advised it’s the best move. I’ve no idea if it will get better over a period of treatment but just couldn’t be in that kind of pain all the time so had to make this decision.

I know that Fender often make higher spec models of artists signature instruments for them, if they do that for JMJ with his Mustang then it would be nice to get one of those.
-
Agree. I read that The Ramones, even when touring a new album would only play 1 or 2 songs from it, preferring to concentrate on the hits as that’s what the audiences wanted.
-
Yep, I’m in on this too, love my JMJ, strung it with regular scale Elixir steel rounds and it sings. A lot easier on my back due to it being lighter than my other basses, but also due to the shorter scale making the playing position easier. Am considering a tort pickguard….
