Cheers for the interest though!
LOL hasn't changed much then! Last time I was there i lost a tooth!! A seriously nice bass there. I had a Bongo in the same colour.
 2. I wish I had something to offer as a trade just to have an excuse to visit Tralee again . A quick pint at the Brogue always does me the world of good. Mind you, if anyone wants to use me as a courier.... Good luck mate.
 3.
They're not lending as freely, but at this moment if you have a decent track record you can get some very very good deals. Assuming the OPs current business is healthy and his plan is thought through then he could well find himself with banks crawling all over him to lend money.
Sadly not the case. This would (I assume) be a start up business with no links whatsoever to the OP's current business other than the OP himself. As a result, unless there was some form of guarantee from the OP or his current business or indeed this new venture being set up as a subsidiary of the current business, I don't think the offers would be as free-flowing as you think.
 4.
No it's not. Banks are not lending. That's why, at the moment, a lot of good companies are going under!
Sadly very true and also one of the reasons why this recession we're in is very different to the recession of the early 90's. I think you would struggle to obtain any meaningful credit lines with most of the instrument distributors/manufacturers (both credit limits and payment terms) as a start up business considering well-established businesses are having a hard enough time as it is. I'm sorry to be a spoilsport, but I think the initial amount you would have to pay out for stock, overheads etc. due to lack of credit terms/support offered would be too large to make it a worthwhile venture. It could also be a risk to your current Directorship too if anything went wrong with this business. As a businessman yourself, I'm sure you're all too aware of the pitfalls anyway and certainly don't mean to teach you to suck eggs Having taken my business hat off, I say it's a great idea and I wish I had your foresight and ambition myself.
 5. I've used Deep Talkin 45-105's for years (I've always found TI's to be a bit flappy feeling) and to me, they're the best strings I've ever played. A new set from Stringbusters went on to my Ric 4003 just before Christmas and they've turned it in to a whole new beast

 7.
I feel bad for you. Rehearsing there must cost a bomb though: first you've got to pay for reherasals and then any money left over goes to the strippers, right?
It's an unwritten rule. Still, I could think of worse ways to spend it.
 8. And it's still one of the most disappointing moments of my life- playing the Peel and not getting to share the dressing room with the strippers
 9. Jack- we used to use the Peel rehearsal rooms. They're pretty good actually. A bit dark but clean and the kit is reasonable too (I think they supplied Trace Combos for the bass players). More than useable and a decent sound. The PA was fine too- nothing special but more than adequate. The only thing was, in one of the rooms the PA speakers were angled (and fixed) in on the drum kit. This caused our drummer a bit of discomfort but was loads of fun for the rest of us. The other one that might be worth looking at is Airplay in Spelthorne (just at the start of the M3). They don't supply backline (they may do upon request) but the rooms are a good size and it fels very spacious.
 10. I've got your address somewhere Clarky
 11. Jeez If my ex did that, we'd all be able to stand our basses up at the same time. There'd also be room for a fair few other items as well (bikes, possibly a fridge freezer, skis, telegraph poles).
 12. I am selling an Electro Harmonix Bass Blogger pedal that I was given last week. It's as new (all the packaging and paperwork included) and is a great dedicated Bass distortion/Fuzz pedal. Here's the link to the EH website: http://www.ehx.com/products/bass-blogger I don't use distortion, so it's not much use to me. Thanks for looking

 15.
This week alone I've agreed to buy two basses and to sell my Epi cab, so yeah GAS big-time! Obviously the incoming basses mean there may shortly be outgoing basses ....
Spill the beans Clarky.......
 16.
How about paying half each and sharing it? I could have it Friday to Monday and then you could have it Tuesday to Thusday?
I'll get back to you on that one Steve
 17.
Old Horse Murphy. He likes nice Basses, and this is Very Nice
He does Steve, but unfortunately he's also taken a pledge not to buy any nice basses!! Mind you, this one is gorgeous. Built the same year as my wife and looks like it's picked up less dings along the way too
 18.
I took up bass 4 years ago and in that time, spent a lot of time (practice) and money (lessons) undoing my ex-guitarist plucking hand technique and chronic plectrum dependency. I felt a need to disassociate myself with my six string past and wanted to play bass 'properly' - ie; fingerstyle, mainly cos some people (including me at the time) frowned on using a plectrum. Now, after 300 gigs and a grand's worth of lessons, I'll say with all the conceit in the world that I've now got a pretty good fingerstyle technique, I play like a 'proper' bassist and wouldn't give the time to anyone holding a Les Paul. Anyway, my band play classic soul albeit with a bit of a raw edge and frankly, we're all pig sick of it. So, we took the decision to bring the set forwards in time. Now it's Kings of Leon, Killers, Stereophonics, Kaiser Chiefs et al and you know what, I'm back using a bloody pick again And......I'm lovin' it. It's good to have both techniques under yer belt, horses for courses and all - that's my opinion and I just thought I'd share that with ya.
Only just seen this thread and can totally sympathise Al. I've always played finger style and only recently due to a change in our set list, have started playing with a Pick. Wow! What have I been missing?? I actually find it easier to keep time while singing too, so now I play half the set with fingers and the other half with a Pick.
 19.
Boring.
I know
 20. I've sat down and given myself a stern talking-to about 2009. I intend to neither buy or sell a bass this year. I said the same in 2008 and failed miserably after about 4 weeks. After that, well things got obscenely crazy.....I daren't even begin to list the ins and outs. All I know is that it has cost me more money than is decent and I'm actually embarassed by my compulsive, selfish behaviour. So, 2009 is time to grow up a bit and be grateful for what I've got. After all the shenanigans of 2008, I'm left with the best Fender P bass I've ever played, my Shuker 5 string and a beautiful Ric 4003. All this goes through a GB Shuttle 6.0 and an Epifani UL310. I really can't see me wanting/needing anything else to my gear. I really can't. We'll see what happens over the year, but I hope I'm strong enough to stick to my guns this time. Wish me luck
