1.
Hi Nick - Might sound silly to say but try roundwounds on it. As much as I loved my 2008 P with D'Addario Flats on it -sounded amazing at home or in the studio - I could never get any definition from it live. Switched back to roundwounds and I'm a happy man again.
Hi Gareth- I've tried Roundwounds on it and you're right, it definitely makes a differnece. Unfortunately not enough though for me. Cheers Nick
2. Hello all- it's been a while but I'm back Anway, I've been gigging regularly and more and more over the last weeks I've noticed my old hearing problems returning and have really struggled to hear my P Bass. It got so bad last night that I played the first set blind (deaf?). Fortunately, after the first set I ended up using a Stingray that I borrowed of a mate of mine and Wow; epiphany moment!! Anyway, I've decided that it's time to possibly go down that route on a permanent. As a result, I'm looking for a trade with my 2008 US P Bass for a Stingray 5 with a bit of money thrown in from me. This P is the best, most comfortable bass I've ever owned and I'm gutted to let it go. It's sunburst/rosewood and is in near-excellent condition (apart from some marks across the top edge due to cuff buttons- not through the paint though). Apart from that, there's a small chip on the pickguard where the truss rod access hole is. It comes with the new style case, all the candy and is strung with La Bella Deep Talkin Flatwounds. It comes with the original new style case, all the candy and tags too. This is my only road-worthy bass at the moment (my Shuker is going through a bit of a mod) and I have a gig next Thursday, so if anyone is interested, a meet would be ideal for me so I'm not without a bass. I live in Surrey but am willing to meet somewhere if needs be. Thanks for reading. I figured it was only a matter of time before my hearing went again. Ah well, it could be a lot worse Pictures are courtesy of Clarky. I traded it with him for a Rickenbacker a while back but missed it so much, I bought it again! EDIT: Due to the number of PM's asking for a sale price, I'd let this go for £560 inc postage or £545 if picked up/meet arranged. These sell for well over £830 new and I'll throw in a brand new set of La Bella Deep Talkin strings and a genuine unused white Fender pickguard. Further pics have been psoted further down this topic.
3. Good one on Saturday at a Rugby Club in Hertfordshire (end of season awards night). Got there at 3, set up and soundchecked by 4pm (good for us). The rest of the band went to the pub over the road while I went to see my Mum who lives about 5 miles away. Back at the club at 7.30pm for our free 3 course dinner and then listened to some of the funniest speeches I've heard in ages. We were due to go on at 9pm but due to the awards running on (and on and on....) it was nearer 10 by the time we started. We went down a storm during the first set and had everyone up dancing before we even got to the first chorus. The second set went even better apart from our monitors packing up half way through. Vocal harmonies? More like a couple of Whales flirting outrageously, due to us not being able to hear anything between us. Did anybody notice? Doubt it. Still, we got another booking out of it, possibly a birthday party too and I've been roped in to playing for them next week Note to self; just say NO.
4. I'm continuing the spring clean with a few books that I have lying around doing nothing at the moment: What Duck Done- This book contains transcription of Donald "Duck" Dunn's bass lines for almost three dozen classic Stax and Atlantic R&B recordings and 2 CD's (as new).- £15 plus £2 P&P John Entwistle: Bass Culture- "The" coffee table book featuring photos of over 200 of John Entwistle's favourite basses (great condition but the dust cover is a wee bit battered)- £15.00 plus £2 P&P Funk and Disco Grooves by Bassline Publishing (as new)- Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards: Funk & Disco Grooves for Bass & Guitar is a detailed transcription and analysis book that covers the work of the legendary Nile Rogers (guitar) and Bernard Edwards (bass). Featuring guitar and bass transcriptions from 20 of the greatest songs the duo wrote for acts such as Chic, Sister Sledge, Carly Simon and Diana Ross.- £15.00 plus £2 P&P Thanks for looking
5. Hmm it's strange... I love P basses with maple boards but have always thought Jazzes look much better with rosewood boards. I've not lost any sleep over it, but I thought I'd share this with you.
6. It's an amazing Bass Barrie and if I could afford it, it wouldn't be leaving my house any time soon! The sound this thing produces is amazing; very deep and dark but no loss of definition. The B String is tight and sounds very clear. It's also spotless and as new. The finish is even better in the flesh than in Barrie's pics. Thanks again for the loan Barrie. Looking forward to meeting up again soon

8.
Indeed it is mate, Squires doing fine, got some roundwounds on it, looking at some Wizards at some point and probably a better bridge, but I want to get the Geddy Lee sorted out first. I see your a bit of a martial artist too.
I was in to my Judo in quite a big way (you probably saw my poor old ears). It complimented my Rugby playing very well (balance, strength etc) but since having 3 Achilles ops I had to stop. When I get the all-clear from my surgeon I may try it again. It sounds like a lot of hard work to me now though
9. Small world Richard- hope you're getting on well with the Squier
10.
MB1. The Album Seems easier to obtain and cheaper!...but signed will always make a little more.
Mine's signed too..... (blows on ink to make it dry faster)
11. Not sur eif this is in the right forum, but a mate of mine is looking to sell his SWR Working Man's 2x10C Combo, which weighs a ton but pushes out close to 250W. He says it's 2 years old and immaculate, but has no idea of the going rate for these. Any ideas?
12.
It's very difficult but it does rather look like they should go as they aren't going to get played very much Maybe the MTD too It is great that I've settled on something though - really pleased with the sound last night, best I've ever had & gave me so much more confidence - hooray!!
Does that mean I get to hang on to the Overwater a bit longer then Barrie? I'm really pleased for you. I had one of those Epiphany (maybe that should be Epifani?) moments last night too. Playing my Fender P bass through the Shuttle 6 and UL212 with a powered foldback monitor running off the amp. Wow!! Makes me wonder what the Hell I've been wasting my time with over the last few years. The sound was the sound I've been looking for all this time and probably had, but just not been able to hear it myself. We've got a new drummer who is amazing and I think that makes a huge difference as well.
13. I simply don't care for anything other than me and my family. The sooner everyone adopts this attitude, the sooner the world will be a better place
14.
Just a quick note to say that Rich's 310 is Nick's old one as he sold it to me (but it wouldn't fit in the boot of my new car!). Rich - Nick is a great guy, solid as a rock & keeps his gear in immaculate condition, definitely a 'buy with confidence' guy Nick - the deal I did with Rich was a smooth as could it possibly have been, another very nice chap & super easy to deal with Ok - that's it, my matchmaking days are over now
If ever the Advertising business doesn't pay your mortgage Barrie, I reckon you could be the next Cilla Black!
15. Gorgeous bass. I really regret selling my 70's one I had in the same colour scheme as this
16.
going to let us in on what it is Nick ? oh and have a bump on me mate for what is now a serious bargain
I've got the chance of picking up a fretless Ray Steve, but the seller has been waiting a while now for me to sell this (hence the price drop). Thanks for the Bump mate
17. I've been offered something I really want but I have to move quickly! A Bank Holiday Bump for a price of £640
18.
Hello Everyone, We making the mammoth Journey (with all our kit) from Bristol to Watford, to headline a gig at the Flag in Watford on easter Saturday (11/04/09) http://www.lemonrock.com/flag Anyone in area who like a bit of rock'n' Soul come in, have a pint and say hello We've no idea about the venue? It was recommended and there's a...diverse lineup. Cheers Neil www.myspace.com/thesoulvents
We played there 3 weeks ago after a break of nearly 4 years. It's changed a lot but you'll get a good and pretty knowledgable crowd. It used to be a Firkin pub years ago and developed a good reputation as a music pub. The good news is it's all on 1 level too and there's loads of carparking round the back. Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
19. I've managed to get hold of a new cab, so this one is now for sale. Immaculate condition (apart from a tiny 10mm bit of paint wear on the grille (pictured) and sounds wonderful (I just prefer 10's to 12's): £600 to you, but it will be going on to Ebay for a bit more too Comes with a custom made padded cover that cost me £45.
