Cheers Chris. Something small and graphity Josh
"Streamlining" your collection eh Mart? Mart is a lovely guy and very easy to deal with. The P bass is also a fantastic instrument and once long ago belonged to me. Good luck Mart

Jazz necked Single soapbar p bass shape thing.
Old Horse Murphy replied to karlthebassist's topic in Build Diaries
That is going to be gorgeous and I'm a huge fan of blue basses too. Well done. I wish I had the talent to do this. -
All gone via ebay, I am now bassless :(
I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but it could well do the job. I've got a Giffin Q7, which does a great Tele and Strat sound, plus more raunchy P90-type tones. By far the best guitar I've ever played, which is why I have kept it. Here's a picture of Andy Summers playing the very one I have: http://www.giffinguitars.com/client_list.htm. I quite fancy swapping it for the Stingray. As it's such a rare guitar, I'd be happy to let you have it on trial. I've also got the original (rave) review from Guitarist magazine if you'd like to see it. Have I told the story about the time I walked into Roger Giffin's workshop and he had Hank Marvin's red Strat on the bench? Yes, that one! I actually picked it up. Hank had taken it in to a repairer on Denmark Street, who had made a real mess of it. I couldn't believe it! That repairer is still in business, and quite well known, but my lips are sealed as to his identity.
I wish I had a Stingray to trade.......... -

Not so much a review; more of a celebrity endorsement. At the last gig we played in Ealing, my mate spotted Geoff "Poison" Pearce from London's Burning at the bar. Geoff's mate walked in and said "What are the band like?" Geoff said "Not bad actually" It's going in to our next Promo pack

I think one of the Fender Stu Hamm or Urge or something basses had a JPJ configuration
Hi Nick - is this really loud enough to gig with? What size room are we talking?
Hi Al Officially it pushes out 100W, but I certainly think it goes louder than that. The day I got it I took it to a rehearsal we had in a local rugby club and it was absolutely fine up against 2 150w guitar amps and PA. The reason I bought it was because I saw a guy play through one at my local pub and was really impressed with the sound. There were about 50 or so people in the pub which wasn't a huge place, but it was a reasonable size. It was plenty loud enough there and it cut through really well. There's a couple of reviews on Harmony-Central too where a few guys use these in Blues bands and Church bands with no issue at all either.

For trade is my Genz Benz 210T Combo. I've only owned this a short while and it is as new. It weighs 28Kgs and pushes out 100w though the 2x10 speakers. It's still under warranty (Genz Benz transferrable warranty) and is in mint condition. I bought this as a practice/back up amp, but have used it maybe 2 or 3 times and it has never left the house. To buy new these sell for £450. It is typical Genz benz quality and is a great bit of kit. Here's the spec: • Powerful 100 Watt Output • Active/Passive Input • Signal Input LED • Tuner Out • Shape Circuitry with Variable Mid-Scoop • Active 3 Band EQ with Parametric Mids • RCA CD Input • Headphone Jack • XLR Direct Out • Internal Fan Cooling • Attractive Black Vinyl • Protective Metal Speaker Grille Power Output Cabinet Response Speaker Configuration Preamp Type Weight Lbs. Dimensions HxWxD 100 W 55 - 18k HZ 2 x 10" & Tweeter FET 62 2 6 1/2" (H) x 20" (W) x 14 3/4" (D) This is easily loud enough to gig with and really is top quality. I'm looking for a trade with a Hartke LH500 head, a decent DI box, EBS Octabass and cash to make up any difference. I would also sell this for £260. Due to the weight, I'd ideally look to exchange in person and would be prepared to meet half way (I live in Surrey). Thanks for looking

Musicman Stingray - Such a love/hate relationship
Old Horse Murphy replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I had exactly the same problem mate. To play (neck, body, balance etc) my Ray was a dream but there was something about the sound that drove me mad. In the end I got Jon Shuker to put a passive switch on it and it worked a treat. It sounded lovely, thick and really warm- the way only a passive bass can. The problem is, I'd fallen out of love with it by then. I now wish I'd kept it a bit longer -

Totally agree on all the above. I'm a huge Danny Thompson fan and adored John Martyn. My recommendation would be Darrell Scott, Kenny Malone and Danny Thompson Live in NC. Lots of really amazing acoustic trio music (some electric too) and Danny really cuts through.

converting my deluxe P bass to passive
Old Horse Murphy replied to artisan's topic in Repairs and Technical
Jon Shuker put a passive switch on my Stingray. He replaced the treble knob with a push/pull knob that when pulled out, the bass was passive and also worked as a tone for the passive mode too. It sounded lovely. Not sure how he did it as electrics are pretty-much witchcraft to me. -
Very nice. How much did Lakland charge for the stack knob set?
They charged me $83 inc shipping. I was more than happy with that -
Hey Nick, looks good! So - famous last words - have you finally got the bass collection you want - a Ricky, Shuker 5 and a Jazz? I am settled now with a US P and a US J but, if I won the lottery () I would be after a Ricky and a Shuker Burnel
I think so Clarky but don't quote me Like most people in this current economic climate it's time for this Old Horse to be a bit more sensible than before. Now if I won the lottery too, things may change.....I particularly like the look of these Bob Glaub 5 stringers. -
What do the stack knobs give you- 2x vols and 2x tones?
Yes, so you have a vol and tone for each pickup -

A week later and the stacked knobs arrived the same day as the new black pickguard I ordered from Jeannie's. A bit of solder later and it's all in place. The stacked knobs add so much more variety that the VVT set up on Fender Jazz basses. I'm not sure why they changed the set up as to me, it works a lot better. Anyway, here's a before and after comparison. -
Lakland Duck Dunn Skyline or Japanese Fender Precision?
Old Horse Murphy replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd personally look at the Lakland. They're top top quality. The only thing to bear in mind though is that the neck on the Duck Dunn is a Jazz bass profile, not a P neck. -
