  1. Placed up high pointing towards you it should be fine if the bass can go via the pa?
  2. I'm not sure really, it's easy enough to wind the bridge up and down to play around with it, higher action gives a more dB like thump especially with foam behind the bridge which is the best mod you can do anyway, too low then it starts too feel and sound more like a fretless electric, have a play around, you won't hurt it.
  3. My local him is a her, Helen at Timothy Tofts. She did a lovely job of my new sound post.
  4. White Black white looks much nicer than just white. With a black plate it will look just like my classic 5 but with a rose wood board and a bit cheaper than the £2400 you'd pay for one now!
  5. A Tenner! At a push I'd take it for free to burn on bonfire night.
  6. Parachutes is OK after that I lost interest.
  7. It's just a bit of fun really and they appear to be unfazed by it. I've only heard the stuff on the radio, they're better than Coldplay.
  8. Have you had a little morning drinky?!
  9. I'm all for equality so I put a moob in the gap on my Jazz.
  10. That's what I charge for a dep gig if mustang Sally is in the set list.
  11. You do realise they make the St Vincent model for, well, St Vincent?
  12. You've got to love Suzi, it's the law! Our singer can't do gruff or I'd be adding something into our set.
  13. Suzi Quatro always looked cool! She's 5ft tall
  14. A tutor that won't teach you on a stick bass isn't a teacher you need teaching you anything imo. Yes you'll have some things that are different and it's a physical instrument anyway, left hand technique and right hand plucking are what I'd concentrate on first.
  15. There are plenty of petite ladies making excellent music using a jazz bass Silvia, Esperanza Spalding and Tal Wilkenfeld are managing OK.
  16. I rarely use mine these days, even with a 300 watt Genz head it's too loud out front!
  17. I've got a Gedo, half carved de gamba body, she's lovely. Great company to do business with too.
  18. Surely it's a step up from Costa Coffee where most degrees are put into use?
  19. Certainly both would be ideal but if you're going to make a start on your own then Geoffs lessons are the only ones I'd follow just to get going a bit until a tutor can be found.
  20. The classic has a string thru bridge so the fat wound part of the string is in the body rather than alongside the saddle spring anyway.
  21. I dont think they sound the same but the more prominent aspects of the playing can be much more noticeable than the general tone of the bass being used. Then there is the amp and pa to consider, you can have a super bright zingy slap tone on stage but if the sound crew cut all the top off it the audience won't hear it anyway.
  22. It was a play on 'Later with Jools Holland' but it would be an improvement that's for sure!
  23. Later Without Jools Holland.
  24. Hi mate definitely check out Geoff Chalmers discover double bass, that will take you from basic left hand technique to bowing in the philharmonic!
  25. Different maybe, right or wrong no way. If you play motown on a Status with the treble flat out, so what?
