Tuner, compressor and a pre-amp/DI for me. I always use the tuner and compressor pedals as they keep things clean and tidy in a live mix and keep the pre-amp/DI for the gigs where I want control over the desk EQ or if I need a little extra headroom.

Hi Pat, Welcome from another York resident! Nick, are you a regular at the Phoenix? I've heard mixed reviews but it's always interested me. Might pop along if it gets the basschat seal of approval
Hello Pat. If you want to find jazz players, come down to the Phoenix Inn on a Wednesday night for the jam session. Hope to see you there, Nick
A Lake Placid Blue, matching headstock jazz bass with rosewood 'board, pearloid block inlays and cream 'board binding... Lightly relic'd.
I'm strangely tempted towards a Classic Series Mustang. Do they sound like a P bass, and can you get short scale decent flats for them?
I know this is slightly off topic but Fender are releasing an American Special Mustang guitar, the first mustang to be made in the US for 5/6 years. If the recent introduction of the starcaster/corondo/cabronita etc guitar AND bass ranges are anything to go by, there's a chance that they may follow suit and release an American Special or FSR mustang bass. You never know!
Remember to learn the intervals backwards as well (fifth to root not just root to fifth).
Good idea but try not to confuse the interval reference (ascending/descending interval) with the key reference of the note (ie root to fifth, fifth to root) as they often end up with multiple numbers (ie a descending perfect fourth is fifth to root within a key... see lol). It becomes confusing as descending intervals (fifth to root, major seven to root etc) are actually inversions of the ascending interval. For example, C to G is a perfect fifth as an ascending interval but G to C is a perfect fourth as a descending interval. So referring to the latter as (fifth to root) is confusing as the interval is a descending perfect fourth and could cause issues when having to recognise the correct interval in theory/aural examinations or when transposing music etc.

LMIII and all cables in a laptop size bag. Pedals in front of gig bag. Bass in gig bag. Cab in each hand. One trip and I have a superb sounding, powerful rig. Just one cab in hand if its a smaller gig. Nobody ever believes it until they hear it... No goin back to 'Mesa Yabackup' or other heavy valve stuff for me!

Just bought an Aguilar DB112NT from Kev. Great price, in excellent condition and packaging for shipping was fantastic. Don't think twice about dealing with Kev, a true credit to the BC community.

Serious question. How have Doc pro plugs got such a good rep? They sound awful and are intended for swimming but play on this rep they have with musicians. I just don't get it. Can anyone explain why they're supposed to be so good?

Are high end basses for investors or musicians?
Sounds like he's a nice, honest guy with his own opinions about why MIA basses are made.
Sounds like a poor salesman that uses his ill informed opinion rather than well-researched product knowledge and facts in discussions with his customers. If he did have product knowledge, he would have seen an opportunity to inform the customer of the differences of the basses and then left the customer to make their own decision based on the facts. That's just my opinion though -
This should be reported for the description alone. The number of spelling/grammar errors and the total bull he has come out with is nigh on criminal in itself. 'This unit is clean and looks rich' is a highlight lol!

I like this. It's very honest. When people talk to me and think its a great life they often get a shock when I explain its not. I've been to Russia, Germany, Holland, France, Spain, other European countries and the US playing and it pretty much looks the same. Hardly any time for sightseeing and most of what you see is in a dark venue, budget hotel room, service station or the airport... Then there's the travelling during the night (so just street lights from a car window) or catching up on sleep when on the move. It's cramped, tiring, more routine than you expect and doesn't live up to the expectations you have when you say 'I'm flying to *insert exotic travel destination* for a gig'. I wouldn't change it for the world but there's definitely a reason why they pay you at the end lol!

I suppose it depends on cost first and foremost. The price I pay for a Fender or Gibson etc through work is considerably less than the street/retail price, so I could theoretically buy and sell within a week (although id lose my job for profiteering!) and make a decent (percentage) of profit, so if I kept it for a decade it would would make a very tidy investment... However, I'd rather just buy something I want with the money, use it and enjoy it! -
Of course not..! That's a red herring.
I don't think this is the plaice for these jokes...

My local had a sweeper style in not long ago but it was old stock from another store and has now sold. The new models all have the 5 knob volume, balance & bass/mid/treble cut and boosts. The new colour finishes are much nicer though!

I agree to an extent. I've had all sorts of basses and went with the theory of 'swap til I find a keeper' and soon found that Japanese Fenders are what I like. Build quality is far superior to every Mex/US Fender I've played, including custom shops. However, I'm under no illusion that its more likely that that is a personal preference and not actual fact. I believe it's hard to be truly objective in this kind of discussion.

Sunburst + white pick guard = Cheap Argos starter pack cliche Sunburst + Tort pick guard = Classic combo Just my opinion though!

I had a similar revelation when switching to Fodera nickel strings from D'Addario. The tone is fantastic, great feel and the response is excellent. I always steer clear of steels as I don't like the tone they create and they are much more likely to cause damage to frets. It's just a shame Fodera don't make a 0.35-0.95 gauge set like D'Addario as I love that gauge!

Valve amps... No matter how good they sound, as soon as I pick it up and it tries to snap my spine in half, I instantly dislike it!
I was confusing it with the VM Jazz with the rosewood neck. That has the tort pg. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/basses/jazz-bass/vintage-modified-jazz-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-olympic-white/
Ah! Squier have such a good offering these days. It must be great being a beginner and having so many good quality instruments to choose from. Between the extended Squier range and the sub £300 Ibanez models, you can get pretty much any kind of bass you want!
The 4 string of this has got a tort pg...and looks bloody lovely. Great looking bass the 5, especially for the money.
I think you're confusing this with the CV '60s jazz which is white with a tort pick guard. The 4 string version of the 70s VM jazz bass is white and comes with a black pick guard.
That passive P humbucker right where it is gives good thump and low-mid push but no real sub lows.
Do you mean the classic p-bass split coil pickup? To the OP, I found the same issue with my precision before moving it on. Even flats and an out-board preamp couldn't get the sound I was looking for. Maybe something like the MXR Bass octave deluxe pedal using the separate sub-octave very subtly might add that extra depth?
